here is some information about how i manual swapped my 3rd gen 2007 5.9 cummins powered dodge ram from a 48re to an nv4500 instead of using a pricy G56

Nice job i hated my automatic from day one . My automatic finally gave up no love lost . I hated the i think 750 rpm gear split and the fluid coupling of the converter , Going to a manual thanks for the video

Is the final drive close to the same as the automatic or a little shorter? Did you notice any increase in fuel economy with the swap? Thanks! Hoping to do this next summer.

id say its very close to the same, if not a touch shorter. fuel economy is better in the city but about the same on the highway.

Hey man, just did this swap on my 06. I can get it to crank but won’t catch. What wires do you have grounded there? I grounded just the yellow/blue stripe wire and it’ll now crank but you said yellow with blue stripe and another yellow? Just wondering if I got it wrong here

ya, i don"t actually have any of the wires grounded. what i have is the yellow/blue wire butt connected to the yellow wire. it dose work but with out the clutch switch it dose not have a neutral safety switch. hope this help.

So do you have to get that tune thing for it to run or can you just run it with the wire unplugged and that one wire butted together?

ive never tried to run it with an auto trans flash on the computer. i don't think it would start but it might.

Do have the information to find out what years has the transmission control modules ?

i think 2004.5 and earlier had trans control separately

I just did the swap on mine and I’m wondering what you did for the reverse lights. I can’t get them to turn on even after splicing a new plug on the harness for the g56

oh ya that was an issue. i tried to find the wire in the pcm but i didnt have a bunch of time for that. i ended up finding the wire in the harness going back to the lights. spliced in and wired my own relay. its all i did it so its can go back to oe pretty easy. its been good that way for 3 years now.

@@airheadperformance2276 good deal I actually just figured it out earlier I tapped into the tail light wiring and added a add a circuit fuse link so I had a key ignition source, used the pig tail on the swap wire harness and some extra wire I had they work great now! I was thinking how to I get the pcm to realize it’s in reverse but since I took the shifter out it would never know so bypassed it

i cant see why not i think thats the correct trans for the truck. just make sure it has the 2wd tail housing.

Did you swap the gauge cluster to or was it not needed?

no just flash the ecm and the PNRD is no longer lit up

Did you install the updated input shaft in the transmission?

What is the flywheel housing and the clutch housing you use ? What year you take

bell housing is from a 2nd gen 24V so say 2001 and the clutch/fly wheel is off a 2004 with a common rail 5.9

Did you use the flywheel that was in the truck with the 48re?

with any automatic transmission they have a flex plate not a flywheel. everything off the crank at the back of the engine is new.

@@keaganlong2687 yes, flywheel and clutch from a truck with an nv5600 if you upgrade the input shaft on your nv4500

Why did you switch bell housing to 24v

the trans was out of a gas truck so i needed a new bell housing anyway. i believe the bell housings are different from 12 to 24 valve trucks. not 100% sure though
