Another one of Kellys fresh ideas takes shape in the new chicken coop. Lets see if this innovative plan comes together and works as planned to create a healthier environment for our chickies on the homestead.

Great idea. For a small coop a large dog box tray could do. Thanks for the idea.

This is what I use for my hens. Save your next, plastic parmesan cheese jar. It makes an excellent PDZ sifter. I use a 5 gallon bucket to store my PDZ in, and just leave the cheese jar in it - filled and ready to go 😊

Its been working great. Hardly any mess on the floor. Kelly uses a miniature leaf rake to sift out the waste. No smell in the coop. Thanks for watching.

Wow! I'm building a 4x6 coop now and I put vinyl tile on the floor. I am going to try this! I have a couple small coops that I use and that looks great for the older hens. I pick out my coops every other day. What a great idea!

Started using this after seeing this video and omg! No poop smell in the coop hen house. Also no flies. And I use diamatecious on the floor as well and I swear I'll never use anything else

I’ve been doing this since I got chickens, just using play sand and a kitty litter scoop, buy 2 bags of sand a year
@markellyfarm8 ай бұрын
Nice!

I use this 70/30 play sand to pdz. It's much cheaper and you can still sift it.

Still working great. No odor in the coop and it catches 90% of the poop.

Do you have a visual for the whole coop? Storage? Nesting boxes?

What do you use on the floor of the coop? Sand? I was trying to get a closer look, but couldn't make it out.
@markellyfarm7 ай бұрын
Floor of the coop is cement and then we throw down shavings for cushion and moisture absorption.
@NotYourMamasGarden3 ай бұрын
How many chickens do you have and how often do you need to scoop?
@markellyfarm3 ай бұрын
20 chickens. Usually weekly. Works great. Very little smell.
@seankerwin5346 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately mine would kick that all over floor.
@rossananoggle6066 Жыл бұрын
How often do you change out that chicken litter?
@markellyfarm Жыл бұрын
You dont really change it out. You just sift the droppings off the top. Just add more every now and then. You font want to go more than a week or so without cleaning. It really keeps the smell and ammonia to a minimum. Surprising how clean the floor stays.

@@markellyfarm thank you. Obviously this is way my first time! But I'm willing to give it a go 😂

You are welcome. Kelly uses a clay material used in horse stalls.
@expectabundance48862 жыл бұрын
how are you liking it?
@markellyfarm2 жыл бұрын
Its working great. It sifts out very easy. We haven't had to replace any material yet and the coop floor stays much cleaner. The smell is very minimal as well.

You are very welcome! Kelly uses Sweet PDZ horse stall refresher. Comes in 25 lb bags at tractor supply and other farm stores. Literally no smell in the coop.
