T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies

6 жыл бұрын

In the early 1990s as the first results from the China Project were being published, a Cornell documentary crew began months of filming in Mongolian villages, Shanghai communes, Beijing hospitals, and research facilities at Oxford and Cornell Universities to create a video that would capture the scope and significance of the study. The film is narrated by Mary McDonnell (Dances With Wolves, Battlestar Galactica, Grand Canyon).
For more information on the China Project visit: nutritionstudies.org/the-chin...
The T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded by Dr. T. Colin Campbell, co-author of the internationally best-selling book The China Study. Our mission is to promote optimal nutrition through science-based education, advocacy, and research. By empowering individuals and health professionals, we aim to improve personal, public, and environmental health.

I have been eating healthy since the first of the year, I've read Forks over Knives, I am 66 years old have been diabetic for 7 years high blood pressure for God knows how long heart attack in 2017 rebuilt carotid artery in 2019, I am going to attribute my problems to my diet, I've changed my diet no pizza no dairy no meat no processed foods. I want to see what my numbers are when I go back to the doctors in March. At the present time I take 9 meds a day looking to get off the meds or some of them if I can. I've dropped 10 lbs. my blood sugar is once again under 100, last time I had my A1c checked it was 14 needless to say I was put on another med. Time will tell if my health improves I will keep you posted. Good health to you all.

Is it easy nope, their are many temptations and knee jerk reactions and yes I've slipped up a few times. Quitting any addiction is a hard to do, we need to keep our eye on the prize, the prize for all of us is good health so we can enjoy the out of doors take walks feel the wind blow, maybe go skinny dipping and relive the days of out youth :). Looks like they were eating an omnivorous low fat diet which avoided inducing the Randle Cycle. The Randle Cycle is what causes diabetes, heart disease and cancer. It is because the carbs and fats compete to go into the cells. If there is too much fat it will block glucose from entering the cells. Seed oils and obese factory farmed animals did not exist in nature. So eating unnaturally high amounts of fat is what is causing cancer. The body doesn't know how to deal with it and it causes DNA error. It's like a glitch in the matrix. Something that wasn't intended to happen actually happened. All because humans wanted to mess with nature.

My grandparents lived to near 100 (one of them was shy or 101 before dying) & they NEVER consumed gluttonously. Meat was eaten sparingly. everything they ate they had to grow. The one thing that was evident is that those who had the financial means to eat what they wanted - meat, especially bread, & sugary things, had health complications & were overweight. for the past 5 years I've gone back to the simple ways of eating, mostly veggies & I feel incredible. The fact that animals are treated so horrendously is heartbreaking & reason enough to not eat meat.

I've seen plenty of people criticize this study and talk about how awful it was, but it seems pretty solid. I've taken a look at some of the data as well and it's pretty compelling stuff. Even if you don't want to use it to theorize how we should be eating, it at least shows how the Chinese were eating back when everyone was shocked at how healthy they were: very little dairy (practically none for most), very little animal foods of any kind for most (some people only ate animal foods 40 days a year tops!), loads of carbohydrate (rice, wheat, millet, maize, tubers) - between 250 and 600g a day DRY for some grains, loads of vegetables (I mean LOADS). But these people weren't vegan, or raw anything. They did eat animal foods when they could. Most also ate very little fat, but they DID use fat for cooking, both plant AND animal fats.

Questions I have is why did the Chinese describe the Mongols as being healthier, more endurable, and good teeth, while the chinese soldiers were weaker and mostly had bad teeth? My second question is, what about the ancient germans? They were hunter-gatherers and yet romans described them as giants

still an important documentary. Forks Over Knives is more comprehensive regarding westernized cities. I have to say, the narration is poorly integrated. Sounds like McDonnell thought she was on a safari and needed to keep her voice low. But still a very good watch. It should be noted that the healthiest and strongest people and animals are raw vegan. There's not enough of the human raw vegans to really do a study, especially not over decades, but just look at elephants, rhinoceros, apes, and I include hippos who are 99% vegetarian.

Well, you use the same fallacies as carnivore advocates do. We should eat as a lion, wolf, hyena or eagle as much as we should eat like elephants, rhinos, apes, deer or hippopotamuses. Or closest siblings the chimpanzee hunt regularly and also eat insects, and prefer cooked food if offered, only that they cannot cook themselves. We ourselves cook dinner long before or species evolved and we cannot thrive on the kind of wild fries and other plants that is ideal for fellow apes. I am not talking against what you wanted to say in general but the way you argued is very wrong and stupid.
@TheOneanjel
@TheOneanjel 3 ай бұрын
@@4124V4TA-SNPCA-x You're not against me but I'm stupid? Lol. Well I've studied nutrition for over 20 years and raw veganism for over 15. There's only one diet that I've seen heal people from fourth stage cancer and that is the raw vegan diet. The fact that we, and chimpanzees, and dogs and cats by the way, prefer cooked food is because the brain is tricked into thinking it's a higher level of sugars fats and proteins in a compact offering. The problem with that is that cooked foods and processed foods are denatured and will eventually break down organs like the liver and the colon and cause problems with bone teeth and other health. So I have no doubt that it sounds stupid to you, because you are in a majority of people who are addicted to cooked and processed foods and meats and want to believe that it's okay. However when you realize that our species used to live to be several hundred years old before it added cooked and processed foods then you have to ask yourself why are we no longer living into the hundreds and in fact why are we now actually dying sooner. At this point in history in 2024, more children are dying before their parents than ever in the history of humanity. So you can call me stupid but I'm going to call you uneducated which is the truth.
@TheOneanjel
@TheOneanjel 3 ай бұрын
@@4124V4TA-SNPCA-x as far as what lions eat, they have a short digestive system. I also don't advocate eating like cows because they have a digestive system that has two stomachs and they process their food for several weeks. Our closest relative is the ape who is a raw vegan. When given cooked and processed food in captivity they develop all of the illnesses of modern humanity such as diabetes obesity and tooth decay.

The china study is one of the largest comprehensive studies of human nutrition ever conducted. Vegans and vegetarians love refering to this study. A few important yet unconventional takeaways from the study: *When looking at the direct correlation between animal protein and cancer, there is no statistically significant positive trend. *Plant protein has more positive correlations with different forms of cancer than animal protein. *When dairy has been sifted out from the equation, there's no connection/correlation between intake of egg, meat, fish and hypertensive heart disease. Yet campbell said: ''Animal proteins'' when only 1 of them (dairy) showed a connection/correlation with hypertensive heart disease. *Heart disease and diabetes correlate stronger with plant protein intake than total cholesterol. *Plant protein correlates stronger with heart attacks and corony heart disease than animal foods. The correlation is especially strong with the consumption of wheat flour. *Sea vegetables correlate stronger with colorectal cancer than cholesterol, yet Campbell doesn't point this out in the study. *No positive correlation was found between fish protein and cardiovascular disease *Plant protein correlates fairly strong with heart attack and coronary heart disease. *Body weight, associated with animal protein intake and plant protein intake, was associated with more cancer and more coronary heart disease. *The study provides evidence that fish oils, rich in omega 3 fatty acids, may have potential as inhibitory agents in cancer development. *Lots of important confounding factors have been left out in the study especially related to cholesterol and disease. *Campbell fails to mention the county of Tuoli in China. According to the China study data; they were extremely healthy with low rates of cancer and heart disease despite that 45 % of their diet was fat and they ate 134 grams of animal protein each day. A coincidence that Campbell didn't include the county of Tuoli? *Campbell has inarguably cherry-picked his data because of his vegan bias. The truth has been distorted and he has selectively picked data to support his beliefs. This is a logical fallacy called ''confirmation bias''. One example of bias in the China study, On page 102 it says: ''Body weight, associated with animal protein intake, was associated with more cancer and more coronary heart disease. It seems that being bigger, and presumably better, comes with very high costs''. ''But the good news is this: Greater plant protein intake was closely linked to greater height and body weight. Body growth is linked to protein in general and both animal and plant proteins are effective''. On page 103 it says: ''Consuming more protein was associated with greater body size. … However, this effect was primarily attributed to plant protein, because it makes up 90% of the total Chinese protein intake''. Conclusion: A clear vegan bias. An example of circumlocution. A more objective statement would have been: ''Body weight, associated with animal protein intake and plant protein intake, was associated with more cancer and more coronary heart disease''.

A WFPB diet is not a vegan diet 😢
@sorinmedia1
@sorinmedia1 23 күн бұрын
That’s correct. Dr. Colin is the one who coined WFPB. Whereas Veganism places the welfare of animals at the forefront of the matter, WFPB does not. I love animals and have seen so many disturbing videos of slaughter houses and crowded chicken/pig/cow farms that I simply cannot ignore the well fare of animals. That said, the word vegan is a bit tricky because you can eat chips, cookies and non-dairy ice cream that passes the vegan test but it is not, and I repeat, it is not WFPB and it is not healthy. Because of the rise of veganism a lot of manufacturers saw an opportunity to make money and consequently there is a lot of vegan processed foods in the stores that are simply unhealthy. This is where WFPB shines because it automatically eliminates anything processed. So if you can incorporate the love for animals into this WFPB lifestyle, as I personally do, then you win on all fronts!
@Starchaser63
@Starchaser63 23 күн бұрын
@@sorinmedia1 yes exactly. The difference being WFPB allows for the Whole food with no or little processing man made foods whereas a vegan diet is largely becoming a junk food vegan diet if your not careful. There's another issue rarely mentioned which is the fact of the Wheat / Gluten content. I have worked with too many vegans over the years who have had health issues, ( fatigue, mood issues, stomach problems etc ) and I have pointed out perhaps the amount of Bread , Pasta, vegan cookies, pizza's etc is a possible cause as the Wheat and Gluten is considerably dominant in what I see they are eating. I believe the wheat / Gluten aspect of the diet and its potential impact on health in some individuals needs to be highlighted. A vegan diet today especially with the fake processing of foods suitable for vegans is bringing a higher amount of Wheat and Gluten into the individuals digestion and some individuals are prone to allergy symptoms...I would say a much improved vegan diet would be a Wheat and Gluten free vegan diet, and the same goes for WFPB too

Something that wasn't intended to happen actually happened. i have not watched the full documentary - can someone address whether they looked at communities that ate locally (grass-fed / pasture-raised) and humanely raised (or wild) animal products in moderation along with an unprocessed, mostly plant-based diet? i would assume that such individuals might have greater health than even those eating exclusively a plant-based diet.

i never said anyone needed to eat animals. my statement and question was about health - i said those who ate small amounts (particularly if they were also very active) may have been healthier than those who ate none at all. i’m all for veganism and was vegan for almost a decade long before it was trendy but i don’t think that never eating animal products at all is necessarily the healthiest lifestyle for everyone. i also disagree that all animal consumption is the same. grass-fed animal flesh has significantly more omega-3 fats among other things and until that distinction has been studied there’s no way anyone can claim to know what the result would be. while i’m a huge animal welfare supporter and even worked in that world i don’t think it’s helpful to let ideology get in the way or truth, reason, and nuance, nor do i think it’s helpful to attack people who are seeking truth. you will only cause more division. thank you for replying though.
