I love the actress' portrayal of Mary the Mother of Jesus. I see so much of her in myself.

It's not ok, despite what one priest says. Is Jesus ok with anything less than a reverent, non-heretical and beautiful portrayal of His Blessed Mother? No. And neither should we be.

As a convert I didn’t grow up with the deep reverence most Catholics have of our Blessed Mother. I understood where they were coming from & just ignored the parts they got wrong. I truly appreciate how they show her so supportive & loving of Jesus. Some Protestants go so far as to say Jesus was dismissive of His Holy Mother. As I was coming into the Church my family would tell me things like “Mary was just a vessel for Jesus” or other such nonsense. Am I just a vessel for my children? Didn’t I help form them into the person they would become? Teach them to walk & talk? Love them unconditionally? Just think of the awesome person Mary had to be to have to have that responsibility.

Oh, don’t give up on The Chosen! Hang in there! The Blessed Mother is really a dominant character in this series, unusual since it is written, produced an directed by Protestants. People watching The Chosen are learning about Mary’s importance in Christ’s life in a way they never have before! Give it another chance.

I truly believe Mother Mary is being portrayed very respectfully. I also believe the actress portraying her has done well! God bless her! I’m sure she has made Jesus and Mary smile, because they are not easily 7:51 offended. They are interested in saving souls. Peace of Christ❤

Well, I don’t mind being lumped in with Protestants. It’s not like the name of the church simply rolls off the tongue with ease. He’s fine.

Is it because they used Catholic input that you are put off from the Chosen? The series has been very open to having all followers of Christ put forth their input. Should not the first followers of Christ put forth their input on how Jesus and other characters are portrayed? I think it is important to remember: we all as Christians seek to follow Jesus Christ. The Chosen has opened up a new avenue to connect with Jesus's life and the first followers of Christ. We can each set aside our biases and read the same Gospel and Bible: why not watch a beautiful show that helps us each connect to Christ in a new way? May God Bless you!

@@da8420 absolutely. I do not take scriptural advice from anyone who prays to Mary or saints because that is clearly unscriptural. If he’s got that part wrong, why would I think he has other parts of scripture correct?

@@flamingofan5411 Apparently, you do not know much about the Catholic faith and our beliefs. You are entitled to your opinion even though it is not true. Apparently, you have never heard of intercessory prayer or do not understand it. God bless you.

@@angcas64 I suppose. But I know many people personally who pray to Mary and to saints. If they lose something they pray to a saint. Neither Mary or the saints are deity, therefore they are dead and should not be prayed to.

As Catholic Answers points out (you can find it - and more explanations - there, it's online and gratuitous): «Because he is the only God-man and the mediator of the New Covenant, Jesus is the only mediator between man and God (1 Tim. 2:5), but this in no way means we cannot or should not ask our fellow Christians to pray with us and for us (1 Tim. 2:1-4). In particular, we should ask the intercession of those Christians in heaven, who have already had their sanctification completed, because “[t]he prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects” (Jas. 5:16).»
