Unfortunate too, I love the way chroma looks and like the concept of him breathing elemental fire, ice, lightning, etc. I hope they give him a nice rework.

I feel like Chroma could've been what Lavos had with elemental manipulation, but ended up being a prototype for the idea.

I would like to see a total overhaul of Chroma's kit. Chroma is meant to be a dragon. At the moment he does not feel like a dragon, he feels like a mash-up of random ideas that have next to no synergy or purpose. Just make Effigy a transformation like Sevagoths Shadow, let Chroma become a necramech sized dragon or some shit, idk.

I'm gonna be honest, I just press 2 and 3 and go to town. Never had many problems but never gave many thoughts to chroma's kit as a concept either. Very cool video pointing stuff I never gave too much of a thought.

Chroma should get a rework where his 4th turns him into a melee dragon like sevagoth. His first should be reworked to where fire(shoots fire and lava, leaving puddles that do damage over time) toxic( shoot sludge, that does acidic damage- poison and corrosive) ice ( literally freezing everyone in place, opening for finishers or crowd control), electric(stunning enemies for a couple seconds like volts first ability)

I hope this is one of those videos of yours that gets outdated because of a buff/rework because chroma is so cool visually. Its a shame this "dragon" frame is a glorified buff timer management sim.

he's my number 1 on my list of reworks i want i honestly hope he gets all new ability's more dragon themed like overguard like dragon skin. and for his 4 maybe a cast that changes depending on your element.

A few days ago I put together a pretty heavy-investment build and did a one-hour solo Void Cascade with chroma. It took a lot of effort to make the build work, balancing power strength and duration with defensive stats and sourcing healing and energy, but... Once I hit that sweet spot where the build worked, it worked completely totally fine. I get the feeling that people write Chroma off as a "bad warframe" because other frames already do what Chroma does, more easily and in some cases more effectively, but he's honestly really good at what he does if you put together the right build. Really hope he gets the love he deserves, though. Would love to see DE *actually* deliver on the fantasy of being a dragon.

‐Link his elemental wheel to Elemental Ward and have it so you can use 2 wards simultaneously ‐Combine Spectral Scream(tap) and Effigy(hold), maybe make it function like a sentinel -Have Spectral Scream scale; priming is great and all but is it really that useful. Also rework Afterburner augment That frees up an ability slot for a mobility ability or something more suitable. Also isnt Chroma lore-wise linked with Hunhow? Maybe a Sentient Roar akin to Terrify. Idk. Love dragons, love Chroma, but his kit is mostly just Vex Armor. And Vex Armor is great😎

I feel like a support with my norish chroma build since he gives so many buffs. Max health, damage, viral damage, armor, energy and hp from molt reconstruct and a partly leveled combat discipline.

If you have the cold ward and you have melee influence on your melee weapon, when the arcane activates anyone that shoots you gets procced with cold from ward, but melee influence spreads it to all enemies around that target as if it was melee damage. It's an exploit for sure, but its pretty effective to make all enemies effectively be at max slow at all times.

I love the video and I wanna say a MASSIVE THANK YOU for calling it a nerf at 8:37 instead of a fix! The justification they have for nerfing it is complete crap, especially since by definition of the words redirect ("direct (something) to a new or different place or purpose") and reflect ((of a surface or body) throw back (heat, light, or sound) without absorbing it.) It should have been an intended feature and left alone. I also want to point out an error in there description of the fix by DE: It says "Fixed Chroma's 'Cold' Elemental Ward applying large damage multiplier bonus to 'bullets' that hit..." The problem in that comment is "bullets". This is completely misleading, as it implies that any weapon letting out projectiles could make use of this. It only affected Hitscan and Beam weapons, not projectile, explosive or melee (reason I mention melee is Gunblades). DE clearly didn't test this properly before nerfing it, otherwise they would have known this, and how much investment it took to make this cheese-able, which is double what it takes now to cheese level cap. Oh, and another thing they ignored when this combo gets running... IT CONVERTED ALL DAMAGE DEALT TO COLD! That is literally in Cold Elemental Ward's description. So in other words, once everything was being redirected, no viral, heat, slash, impact, puncture. None of it. Just Cold damage and status effect. Only way you were getting a slash proc was Hunter Mu-Mu, which didn't even take the cold multiplier into account. Any other status effects would have to come from companions, teammates or abilities. Thanks for the awesome video and sorry for the long paragraph, but I just hate the amount of misleading crap surrounding the nerf, especially because the Xata's Whisper variation specifically has even more crap to get into for how it worked.

Ahh Chroma. The best solo frame as long as you don't have any anxiety about having a constant DOOM timer ticking in the right corner of your screen

I miss my chroma man I look at it every time I pass by in the arsenal and just feel disappointed when umbral forma first got added to the game he was the first frame I stuck one in and was also my first frame to be forma'd over 6 times which back then was a super huge investment I remember feeling so big brained doing stuff like throwing exploding kunai at my feet to charge my damage taken passives and hitting 70 seconds duration on 2 and 3 for the first time Its nice but sad to look back on memories like this because his theme is so cool but a lot like lavos another one of my favorite frames there is just no content id ever have a reason to use him for at least lavos gets to be my railjack pilot

Master of elements? No, it's Lavos. Weapon master? No, it's Rhino and Kullervo and Xaku and Harrow and... Well, there's a lot. Cool 2 in 1 frame with his dragon skin working separatly? No, it's Sevagoth. Unkillable tank? Well, we all know. Loot frame? Well, only for credits.

There are so many frames in similar or worse position with many indirect nerfs and meta changes. They really gotta address it in other way than just dropping one augment without kit tweaks like they are trying with Loki. Nyx, Loki or even excal just got shafted with indirect nerfs. Their whole kits other frames have in one ability. My fave equinox, from being one of strongest frames ingame now is borderline useless outide of eso. 3 is not an ability and just doesn’t exist, eximus units immune to cc make whole sleep play style impossible not to mention every pub having wisp waking everyone up with electric procs. Half of the kit doesn’t scale with anything, 4 can’t nuke without armor strip so you gotta build high strength with helmith to be able to use it. Augments left in gutter too. Recently grabbed chroma for archon and guy asked if I’m trolling with profit taker build.

Chroma is a walking primed serration that is capable of holding your weapons. Im gonna be mad if he does not get reworked after Inaros. He needs it even more than... Even more than my beloved Banshee 😢

My main issue with chroma in current warframe is that most of the time there is another frame giving the whole squad oversheilds or overguard and most casees both making it literally impossible to get the fury buff without combat diciplin and i wish i didn't have to use it

I can’t help but think DE often forgets Chroma exists. He has received so many buffs and nerfs because of changes that indirectly affected him, such as self-damage removal, double Exodia Contagion, Fortified Will, and even Elemental Ward keeping the old stat scaling after Abyss of Dagath.

Yeah, feelsbadman, he deserves so much more. Design wise he's a cool badass dragon with a sick new year skin, but he doesn't have enough going for him anymore for em to see high usage. I remember when Eidolons released, Playing a high STR chroma with glaive for self damage with the vectis built for crit was one shotting every limb. I have some clips saved of those fun days, it was truly efficient farming. But then the nerfs came down, I never touched chroma again, he dropped heavily on my roster for usage.

Thank you so much for this video. Chroma main almost since the beginning and I can’t find a reason to run him anymore. Doom Rhino exists and is just better in every way. Everything kills so efficiently now that I can’t even enjoy the power ramp up, and since it’s a base additive buff anyways it just doesn’t feel as good as it used to. He needs help

I will say, he has his niches, and will have use, but that's all. If DE wants him to be more general use, they probably wanna do more.

Still sour about the change to Vex Armor. Their reason for changing of "It wasn't in line with how all the other dmg buffs worked so we made it more in line with them" when Roar and Eclipse STILL exists. Chroma is actually THE reason i started to play Warframe as i randomly saw his trailer on PS4 and went "Yes, i'll play that". I've played as him a LOT which my account merging showed. Before the merge Chroma and his prime were 3rd and 4th. After merging Chroma jumped to first and Prime stayed at 4th as he was not released until after i moved to PC.

Maybe they should re-scale the formula to better match like how the new Health and Shield is formulated so that we no longer need 300% but instead get the same at half percent, meaning 150% strength can get you at 1000 buffs while scaling with enemy levels with 200% or more same with ward, while increasing base range. Effigy need fo rescale to equal a credit booster while acting like one to get double or quadruple booster from credit booster from market, weekends, and/or blessing. Upgrade strength to give scaling to enemy levels for damage reduction and dealing. Ward needs rescaling with fire giving overgaurd, and heat stripping electricity gives overshields and increase shield regen, ice damage reduction and knockdown reduction, toxin needs armor stripping with better reload and fire rate.

I remember getting into a survival mission with some randoms, just to begin to beg them to not use their abilities as it was a Styanax stacking Overguard, a Frost stacking Overguard, and a Hildryn perma-charging everyone's shields while I was playing Chroma. I just had to stop using my abilities because there was literally nothing I could do to stack Vex armor since that all had so much range.

Something I would do to help is make his effigy always follow him, have his spectral scream shoot out an elemental beam kind of like wisp ultimate but have it scale.

Imagine being able to turn into a half dragon, or the pelt being a whole different companion.

Isnt overguard supposed to stack effects that are on HP hit as well? But it wont hit shields when someone gives chroma OG. Maybe we need a toggle to opt out of damage prevention abulities for choma and some other builds too, and it needs to be in the esc menu

i do believe they did make where say if u get a armor buff from say an arcane or like oberon. i used to just only give that armor and wasnt buffed by his 3rd. but i believe it is now? correct if wrong

I've actually been trying to test negative duration mods with catalyzing shields on his shield buff (since it recovers shields the moment you cast it) to see if it's even possible to shield gate with him. It probably won't actually work but if it does that'd be hilarious.

His first should be kinda like dagaths Doom where he force procs your chosen element in a conical shape forward, these enemies would instantly get the elements effect (unless they have overguard) electric stun, cold frozen, heat stagger ect..

It would be fun if they released an augment mod that switched the conditions for vex. What i mean is that he gets his fury right away, but he now only gains his armor after receiving health damage stacking.

I know his gimmick was suposed to be a "dragon" warframe or a dragon knight and yada yada yada, but i wish we can be the dragon instead of summoning one... Maybe they could rework his effigy so you can also hold the button to become the effigy, flying and getting more bonuses and things like that.

I'm gonna add that another issue with Chroma is Elements.I don't know about you but i don't use elements for their effects, unless that effect is direct damage boosting or triggering some ability that give more direct damage. Chroma is a walking stat stick because elements in Warframe are really just stat sticks them selves.

I just have to say that if Chroma has to be a dragon frame, then be a dragon frame, like... A real dragon... Yes, i know his coat is from a sentient with the form of a dragon, still... He needs really a full rework because he doesn't do too much as others now do

Chroma is kind of stuck between a bunch of concepts: - dragonslaying knight - elemental master - dragon If I was to rework Chroma, i'd focus on the first 2 and have #3 relegated to, well, the Sentient Dragon pelt. In short, as much as i like the Triple Jump for Chroma, it really is just tacked on. Rather, his passive should be that he deals increased damage to Eximus units and Bosses (multiplicative). Spectral Scream could remain as it is, but hooked onto the Effigy: while attached, it acts as it does now, but when Chroma has it deployed, it replaces the beam. Effigy should act akin to an exalted sentinel while it is channeled. When it is not deployed, Chroma would gain a Triple-Jump, but it can be deployed as either a stationary turret or to hover next to him like a sentinel. Upon killing an Eximus, the Effigy absorbs its essence, gaining its effect for a short time (the triple jump and eximus absorption would be precepts). The Effigy, when deployed, would also extend Chroma's Elemental Ward and Vex Armor auras around it.

I remember when everyone had a Chroma in their squads back in the day when prime frames were also ridiculously expensive.

Try the new Guardian Armor augment mod, it's surprisingly op, you get Fury maxed pretty soon in the mission because it dmgs your health even when your allies take shield dmg (unless someone is running overshields frame). On top of that, if you have good hp pool and dmg reductions, you'll get Arcane Grace and/or Arcane Avenger to trigger almost everytime and keep you immortal while everyone else runs at +50% dmg reduction. Also, I personally really like toxic spectral scream, you can stack corrosive with it, armor strip (albeit not so fast) and heal yourself with Emerald Archon shards while still killing everything with melee.

Tanky elemental dragon is a great theme, a rework wouldn’t be hard to imagine

thank you for this. literally the only use Chroma has now is brute-forcing Profit-Taker raids, and even _then_ his role can be replaced by other warframes like an Eclipse-buffed Gauss (im just spitting examples) who can do it better with around the same or less effort. i've always wanted a buff that makes it possible to truly utilize Chroma's full kit without sacrificing stats; Effigy needs its energy drain halved, for starters, and that's just touching on a bigger issue that Chroma has, which is that he's barely needed for most types of missions now, at least in my eyes. imagine if Spectral Scream or Elemental Ward infused his weapons with its respective element like Toxic Lash did, Chroma would have access to a myriad of elemental weapon buffs just based on how one ability is used.

what saves chroma is that he may still be the best frame out there for someone that just want to use weapons. he benefits both guns and melee, on a good duration with bonuses far stronger than what other frames have access to and all on a tanky package. It's like a rhino without the CC or overguard, but that hits way harder. It's not the identity it should have, but no other frame fits that niche still all centered around his 3

As a chroma main want to add he makes very good use of shotgun vendetta, he doesn’t “need” the base damage as much, so the 180% multishot nets more status and potentially damage. Convectrix and boar are great weapons for this (Edit you can also use Magus Elevate to keep your hp topped off.)

Them saying they would let us know well in advance when chroma is under review is yet another promise made to us that is forgotten in the dumps of the ever rolling ball of DE pushing update after update and leaving many things in the dust. At this rate we'll get a third orb mother, a caliban rework, and multiple new warframes with reworks for the newer released warframes before they ever even bother glancing at chroma's direction, but we'll just keep getting awesome dragon skins so even yareli has passed chroma at the useless but pretty game and I can't imagine a sadder fate than being outclassed by that degree. Usually warframes get reworks and buffs when primes and deluxe skins release, a prime and two deluxe skins later and chroma has still received less attention than the kid waiting on his dad to come back with milk. I don't understand what this frame has done for them to be so afraid to even consider looking at him or even acknowledge the state he is in, while giving things he should be good at to other frames. lavos is a better elemental frame, voruna follows her theme better than he does with his, rhino is a better tank and damage buffer, and mirage an overall superior weapon platform in every way.

my main issue when i was playing with chroma was he only really kept his damage maxed in solo or when in survival on the other side of the map and in both scenarios if i was playing say limbo (my main) i will have had better damage and have cc with infinite survivability using rift and if i played in squad mirage will outclass the damage while not being has tanky the way hall of mirrors and total eclipse interact make the damage way higher then chroma ever can with most weapons and both these frames offer way more ways to play and buttons to press then chroma i think the main thing DE should look to do with chroma is QoL to 2 and 3 and full reworks or massive changes and buffs to his 1 and 4 to make them true ability's worth using and building for (in the style of how mirage can build to nuke with her 2 and or 4)

I think with Inaros and Hydriod getting updates we will see other frames getting updates. Chroma just needs skill updates not a full rework like his 1 & 4 need to be scaled better like if his 1 wasn’t channeled and instead just used to prime and his 4 was more like a pet or just didn’t drain so much energy.

Kinda crazy that Chroma is one dimensional while his whole kit was obviously meant to be versatile. Changing elements could be a way to take advantage of enemy resistances and weaknesses or the different kind of buffs he can give. It feels like the point of the character got completely lost.

Chroma has potential (and looks) to be such a cool warframe. I wish there was an easier method to balance older warframes than the full-rework that so many of them need

I think there could be easy fixes. Change spectral scream into a one use ability instead of continuous fire breath. And make spectral scream apply elemental damage for all weapons. Elemental ward could theoretically stay the same. Or instead, combine elemental ward and vex armor into one ability. I say this because it’s extremely annoying to recast two abilities over and over and over again, even one of them doesn’t recast so that would be a plus. Third ability can be effigy. And fourth ability can be channeled ability. Whenever chroma takes enough damage, a rage meter will build and once it’s full, he can unleash the dragon and become a controllable creature, similar to sevagoth’s fourth ability.

Keep 1 add a held version to buff weapon with toggled element, 2 keep the buffs add spectral wings more movement speed reload speed etc. And it fears enemies in a SMALL aoe around yourself 3 give hom a hoard ability grouping ressources and enemies with a big aoe element damage 4 keep effigy it stays on one point and its chanfed to a elden ring like dragon head doing a huge breath attack of all elements, it also buff ressource drop when combiner with his 3rd. There you go dragon themed relevant to the actual meta and keeps his strong suit.

He always reminds me of pre-reworked Aurelio Sol. He's nice to play if he fits the meta. But will show their kits flaws once the meta change

Chroma deserves to be looked at the fact he got a new years skin is just hard to cope with but i think problem is is that he doesnt have what other frames have and i really hope DE will change our perspectives on him if hes looked into

My Chroma's Vex Armor with gloom makes it basically unkillable as long as it doesnt run out of energy.

ive been a chroma main since the DAY he dropped, I rushed all his parts and BP with plat just to be able to play him and since then through thick and thin whether hes been meta or not he has always been my Frame. That being said ive invested so much forma and recourses into his build I outperform even the meta slaves most of the time in SP. Was it worth it? for me yes, do I recommend anyone else do it? nah BTW combat discipline with Arcane grace is a god send for self damage my vex armor is always at 1400%+

Moving Chroma's element changing from his 1st to his 2nd ability, and maybe moving the credits bonus from his 4th ability to his passive could free up his 1st and 4th ability slots for actual new and usable abilities while keeping the useful parts of the old ones, but that's just my suggestion. At this point, Chroma just needs a Hydroid level rework imo

I replaced Vex Armor with Xatas whisper and removed the need to interact with damage entirely while still simulating the same idea of deal damage take no damage

I’m not mentally geared for the Warframe meta, but I know Chroma’s theme. And with his theme, I can suggest conceptual changes that someone with meta knowledge can act upon. Chroma is: The Knight That Slayed The Dragon & Wears Its Pelt As A Trophy. Chroma wears the pelt of a dragon-style Sentient. While wearing the pelt, his abilities should be similar to what they are now (revolving around HCET), but reworked to fit the current direction the game is going. When casting his 4, it could be akin to Sevagoth; but instead of the dragon, you play the knight underneath with a new ability set based on the knight theme and augmented by whatever element the dragon was at the time of separation.

One of the reasons I quit warframe way back in 2021. Chroma, ash and zephyr were my fav frames, i took them for 3h MOT runs back then. We were promised a rework way back when they nerfed him in 2017, its sad to see that this promise was abandoned.

I always felt like DE should have given Chroma the identity of the hoarding dragon. It struck me as weird that effigy only doubled credits. It always felt like it should have doubled other resources or drop chances depending on what element Chroma was. In addition to this, I wondered about what if they changed his passive to be some bonus or bonuses to his stats or abilities for picking up stuff. It would tie into his fourth ability, perhaps give a little more modding freedom or help his abilities scale during long missions.

How i would code Chroma: Passive: holding jump makes Chroma fly in the air, costing energy over time. Rend - strikes a target with sharp claws, damaging them and causing them to bleed. If flying via passive, Chroma will swoop in and deal additional elemental damage. Elemental Aura - Chroma shuffles elements by tapping the skill. Hold allows Chroma to imbue his body with the current element. While active, tapping will allow the active aura to cycle and the previous aura buffs to fade after 2 seconds. Dragon Scales - When activated, Chroma gains two buffs. One, he gains 1 health regen per second every 10 shield that was lost after casting. Two, he gains armor the more he gets hit, up to a maximum number of stacks. Furious Blood - Chroma gains boosted jump height and slam attacks gain elemental infusion of his current aura. Heavy Slams will have 80% maximum combo count efficiency.

I just use combat discipline and equilibrium, so i dont run out of energy and restore health

You can put nourish on chromas 1 or 4
