Today, we're going to take a look at a very impressive, borderline dominant example of high-end knifemaking from CKF and Anton Malyshev, the CKF Sukhoi 3 'Dominance'.

I Have been really impressed with the details and quality of the CKF knives I've held they seem to be really stepping it up lately. I understand the gripe with the Limited Edition but as a business model for CKF it seems to be working. I havent seen secondary prices really being that high after they stop making them.

just purchased this knife and after some cleaning and lubrication, it does have a shiro kind of drop shut action. enjoy the action very much. the only thing is the screws are slightly scratched but ckf gave customers backup screws so can't complain.

Hi nick hope you answer ,just got one on the secondary, my query is ,after disassembly and cleaning is it smoother as I'm nervous about loosing a ball ,in anticipation from down under ,long term sub love your reviews totally no bias and honest opinions keep it up,I noticed your sub numbers are going up you are the go to channel for an honest review and with the saturation of knives you help alot of people filter through some knives ,thanks Steven fraser

Nick, did you happen to notice if the stop pin is CF? Another reviewer pointed that out and if so that has to be the first knife I have heard with that. If so, not sure I like that. I know CF is tough, but could it hold up to the whacking?
@aflacrob5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with your sentiment of fantastic design, execution, and yes, value. I am fortunate to own many CKF and Shiro (over 15 now) knives, and Shiro better take notice. My Gratch is an equal to ANY of my Shiro's in action and quality, for less than half the price. Nick, please do yourself a favor and check out the Cheburkov Small Strizh. Or if you like I'll send you one to try. I think it will check a lot of boxes for you and is another example of decent quality and value from those crazy Russians.👍👍😁

I picked up a new CKF Aich (Malyshev, M390, Ti, CF) at FRWK (Garage Sale) plus 10% discount code $211.50 shipped to USA. (FRWK can be a better bargain most of the time). The Aich is not at Sukhoi level perhaps & it's a little heavy...but it's a Malyshev and I LOVE the piece for that money...I may even send it out to be milled to lightened up a bit. This Sukhoi is a beauty, but a little too large for me. CKF offerings are alway interesting! I own 3 of their knives and just cherish them. Saving for a one-off Snecx Terra (gulp!), perhaps in the future.

Nikolai, Spasibo! Great review, and even me, Russian living in US, strongly thinking that 450 is ridiculous for the knife, would consider owning one (on top of another 100 knives from around the world already). As for the name, for everybody, please refer to this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhoi . CKF has a lot of knife names which you can only understand if you understand Russian culture or slang a bit. Spasibo i zdorovya tebe Nick!

I don't know if being a limited edition is necessarily a bad thing. It allows for manufacturers to do a production run, assess how it is received on the market, and commit to a long-term run if it proves to be popular. I don't follow Casio closely, but I feel that's what they do with their G-Shocks. There are some models that available for a year or two, and there are some that have been in continuous production for decades. That sort of model would allow designers and manufacturers to move a little more nimbly and refine their designs and processes. I could be misunderstanding the situation too and this is a limited edition for the sake of scarcity and collectability like Disney does with their time-limited releases of their films. I dunno.
@NickShabazz5 жыл бұрын
I have no problem with an initial numbered run, but behind most limited editions is the promise that the maker will not make any more of that model. Makers saying "An initial numbered run of 500" is great. Makers saying "We will only make 500 of these" is stupid, imho.

I've got a few Benchmades Jake including the 940 and both Griptillian and Mini-Grip. The Achilles Heel are the Omega springs in the Axis lock design which are prone to failure sometimes. I say sometimes because my 940 has been back to Benchmade under thier (excellent) warranty twice for that reason. However, neither my Griptillian, Mini Grip, Contego or 710 have EVER failed, so perhaps it's just a 940 thing (or maybe I was simply unlucky).

This is a most impressive knife, but the price - eeeeeeeeeeehhhh... At this price I wouldn't be comfortable using it for cutting things at home, let alone taking it somewhere outside. It's pretty much a piece of art that a discerning collector may buy just for personal aesthetic pleasure.
@prototypep44 жыл бұрын
Not really, it's essentially a midtech knife so the price is more than justified. Tolerances are up there with Shirogorov for half the cost of a shiro. Honestly it's great value, managed to snag one a couple days ago still unused. Unless you plan on going to town on a chunk of steel I wouldn't be too afraid of using a knife like this. Especially when you see people who edc things like the Mafione Anax.
