After decades of being 3rd class tenants across multiple venues, the Los Angeles Clippers are building their own arena in Inglewood funded by former Microsoft CEO and team owner Steve Ballmer. The venue will be quite innovative and exciting for fans, but legal attacks from the Madison Square Garden Company who owned the historic Forum nearly killed the whole project. In this video we'll review the Clippers history dating back to the Buffalo Braves days and up through the Donald Sterling controversey before going into unrivaled detail about all the events that led to groundbreaking for the Clippers' Intuit Dome.

So many haters i swear. Ballmer overpaid for the Clippers, has done things for the community, offered locals work opportunities towards building the arena, and had the arena privately funded with no tax payer money.. and people are still mad? Why isn't anyone pointing fingers at the Lakers franchise for getting PPP loans that were intended for smaller businesses during the pandemic?

I believe Steve Ballmer came right out after buying the Clippers to say he wouldn't move them due to the cost paid for the franchise. Moving to Seattle would've immediately downvalued the team significantly.

You're probably right about the value. LA is still a dump though and dangerous. Seattle has gone down hill too. But moving them to Seattle as the Sonics sure would have brought some emotion

As a Seattle Sonics fan (who lived in the area since 1991 and still do today in 2024), I would've loved the Clippers to move to Seattle. But business is business. I love and respect Steve Ballmer for what he's done for the Clippers. He cares about basketball and wants to deliver the best experience for fans like us.

Clippers did play some games in Anaheim that actually drew well but the whole plan was also trying to get Disney in on ownership since they had the Ducks and Angels but that went through.

I gotta say, I've always wondered why the Clippers tried to make it work in LA but an owner like Balmer seem to be doing everything necessary to make them a premiere franchise. But as you said, seems conflicting for 3½ (½ is the Honda Center in Orange County) arenas is ONE locale

@@teknosql4740 Sure, Ballmer is a businessman, but to say he's primarily motivated by money couldn't be farther from the truth. Ballmer donates hundreds of millions every year to provide opportunities for the underprivileged. In 2022 he donated over $750 million. Since purchasing Clippers Ballmer has invested more money in the LA community than all the other sports franchises combined. He's donated $80 million toward affordable housing, $10 million to refurbish and upgrade every basketball court and gym (over 350) in the LA Park and Rec system. He's provided over 1 million backpacks and school supplies and operates a mobile eye clinic which provides free eye care and glasses to schoolchildren in underserved areas of LA. The big part is that Ballmer and his wife just do it quietly without fanfare. Google Ballmer Group. It will list the work he and his wife do.

Pretty amazing to see such a significant investment into any franchise let alone the clippers. I can see it justified (from a billionaires point of view) as the LA market being so big … and that finding that not everyone loves the Lakers. People aren’t just bandwagon Clippers fans - you kind of seek them out for the underdog story.. which brings clippers fans together.. very excited to go visit this arena. Looks pretty cool since they’re going for the college vibe.

I’d love to see you do a video on any of the Detroit sports complexes and their history. Whether it’s the Silver-dome and ford field, or Tiger Stadium and Comerica Park, or even the recent Joe Lewis/Palace and Little Cesar’s Arena. I’d love to see a video.

MSG, owners of the Forum, filed lawsuits trying to block construction of Intuit. Ballmer bought the Forum to remove any possible delay in construction. Besides, the Forum is now strictly a concert venue. There is no basketball court inside.

How much Tax Money will this cost people who don't even watch NBA basketball? Just an honest question. LA just paid Ohtani an outrageous $800 million, but if LA wanted to build another stadium, all the people would have to foot some of the bill. It's like these Bond Hearings for a new High School stadium. We homeschool, so are not involved with any of the local schools sports programs. But, my taxes go up non the less.

It's privately funded by Steve Ballmer, the owner of the Clippers. No public tax money used. The same is the case with Ohtani. The Dodgers pay his contract not the city of Los Angeles. As for the Dodgers, they gave Ohtani a contract worth almost $1 Billion. If/When they decide to relocate or upgrade their stadium, there is a good possibility they will ask for Subsidies. Those come from the Taxpayers, not out of the owners pockets. A "Google" search pulls up tons of articles on how people who can't even afford to pay for an NFl ticket are paying taxes to help build the stadium. "Las Vegas is home to the Raiders organization and its $1.9 billion Allegiant Stadium. The Las Vegas Stadium Authority financed nearly 40% of the stadium through $750 million in bonds backed by its hotel taxes." CNBC - Taxpayers are paying billions for NFL Stadiums. So, yes, Taxpayers are footing some of the bills to build an billion Dollar Stadium, even though most of those same tax payers either can't afford an Overpriced NFl ticket or simply do not watch sports all together. And, if we think it's only the NFL, here is another headline from the Fortune website. "Oklahoma City will vote on a 6-year 1% sales tax to build a $1 billion arena for NBA’s Thunder. One expert calls it ‘by far the worst stadium deal I’ve ever seen’"

Ugly arena. The red jungle gym covering the structure/ windows looks pointless and stupid. The interior with the "wall" makes the bowl looks disjointed. The Halo is too big and the ceiling is too low. Say bye bye to concerts.

Ah yes, they were extremely successful in the playoffs under Sterling. At the end of the day, Balmer is doing everything he can to grow the team’s identity and presence in the league. Additionally, they are a regular contender under Balmer.
