The Coasters, like the Drifters went through many lineups over the years but still managed to keep Carl Gardner and their iconic bass singer. But, in 1990, a group touring as the Coasters , even though they were good, were exposed as frauds. The guys oldest member was hardly 30 years old . John Beauman ( Bowser) of Sha Na Na exposed them on stage as frauds. Later Bowser went in front of Congress and helped get legislation passed that stated one original member of a group had to be in a lineup in order for the group to use the original name. Carl Gardner Jr inherited the Coasters and has legal rights to the name. This excluded tribute bands as long as they were licensed.

Hi Nina. My name is Robert bock. Im am wally bocks grandson. My Nick name is badgee. My grandfather was hired to road manage the coasters. He managed them for over 20 years. I will have to ask my dad exactly how many years exactly. The most meaningful gigs they did that I remember were raising money for jerry Lewis telethon. They really poured their hearts out. God bless you and your uncle Cornell in heaven. Cornell was amazing!

On this day in 1959 {Feburary 28th} Cash Box released their Top 100 Singles for the week ending on Feb. 28th, and for the first time Cash Box began using a red 'bullet' to indicate songs that were rising up the chart at a quick pace.. The highest position record with a 'bullet' was "Charlie Brown" by the Coasters, it was at #3 but surprisingly it moved up only one position to it peak position of #2, and that was also its peak position on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart... The three lowest ranking records with a 'bullet' were all in their first week on the chart; "Telling Lies" by Fats Domino at #78, "Never Be Anyone Else But You" by Ricky Nelson at #79, and "Pink Shoe Laces" by Dodie Stevens at #81...
