The sad thing is, that's pretty normal these days. My daughter included, most of the women I know in relationships reach a point of acceptance like this man is not everything I want, but I guess its an ok mix of good things & the bad things I can handle. I went to her house a few days ago to spend time with my grandkids, & she said sorry about the mess. One of the biggest issues I saw was multiple shopping bags that just hadn't been unpacked. I always clean up, do all the dishes there are, & I unpacked all the bags. I mentioned today that I don't get how her bf can be there, see the bags like I did & it doesn't occur to him to put stuff away. She said, yeah, we're working on that. What is there to work on?

@@Kriistall7 Yeah, its pretty pathetic how resistant men are to growth, even though they feel so threatened about their manhood all the time. There seems to be some disconnect between what a man should be like or do & the things they should be doing are somehow not that. I went to my daughter's house the other day to see my grandkids while she was working & I cleaned up a bit for her, did the dishes, etc & there was 4 different shopping bags with food items that hadn't been put away & I'm astounded that her bf lives there & it never occurred to him to just put that stuff away. I said so to my daughter & she said, "Yeah, we're working on that." As if its a struggle to make him understand that helping is good.

Trails & Travel it’s brings peace to be honest Constantly thinking and hating someone will ruin you, when the daughter probably wouldn’t want it It’s not really about forgiving him, it’s just about letting go and moving on for yourself Don’t forgive people for them. It’s for your own peace and sanity
@idek7438
@idek7438 3 жыл бұрын
@Trails & Travel I'm not an expert, but I think that forgiving someone is the first step towards coming to terms with the horrible things that they did to you and learning to move on (although I don't know how you can move on from the murder of your child). Not everyone can bring themselves to forgive and the grief process is completely personal, but I think forgiveness, when it can be reached, is a healthier option than sterile hate, which certainly won't do anyone any good. I'm an atheist btw
@BhappyD
@BhappyD 3 жыл бұрын
Trails & Travel Forgiveness is very personal, and it doesn’t have to have anything to do with religion. For a lot of people, forgiveness brings freedom. It is more for the person who is doing the forgiving, rather than for the person who is being forgiven. Forgiveness does not mean that you forget what someone has done, it doesn’t mean you excuse their actions, and it doesn’t take away the pain; but it can lift the burden of hatred, and that can be a very powerful tool in the grieving process. It’s not at all “counter-intuitive”. I don’t know how I would respond to the brutal murder of a loved one, and I don’t know if I would be able to forgive someone for that, but I would hope with time that I would eventually find forgiveness. I still struggle with forgiving my abusive “father”, so I cannot even begin to fathom how difficult it would be to forgive someone for taking the life of the person I love most. Forgiveness does take strength, and to me that is respectable. That doesn’t mean that the families like Lauren’s are any less strong or any less respected. They are doing the best they can to navigate an unimaginably horrific situation while remaining strong enough to advocate for their daughter and keep her memory alive, and that is respectable too. Respecting one family for their ability to forgive, does not negate the the strength of or respect for families who don’t, they are both still respectable regardless of their journey through grief. Respect for one does not cancel out respect for the other.

Depends on the dynamics, tbh. It took 5 kids and 15 years for my in-laws to at least stop calling me a gold digger to my face. But my grandma always told me "kill em with kindness, baby. Nobody likes an asshole." So basically just be kind and respectful to them and especially to my husband who is stuck in the middle. We're 23 years together this year and happier together now than we ever were before, because of all the crap we've been through. I think it's a matter of who they're more married to: you or their family.

My friends who are divorced are some of the more self-aware people I know and the ones who have gotten remarried are actually really good in their new relationship because they know how to avoid the things that cause their previous marriage to fail, and also many have been through counseling and are better off for it.

I know this is a pretty old video, but I wanted to throw my two cents in about forgiveness. My husband was murdered, part of a quadruple homicide. The person who did it is a monster (One of the other victims was an 18 month old baby). Three years after, we finally had the trial, which I had to testify at, and it was the hardest thing I have ever done. He was sentenced to death, along with a life sentence and another 25 years for all the charges. I thought at this point I would have the closure I needed to move on with my life, but I didn't. I was holding so much anger and resentment that I literally couldn't function. My children deserved better, I deserved better. I was barely surviving in a very dark place, although, on the outside, I looked like superwoman. It took another year for me to realize that I was letting this monster not only take my kids' dad from them, but their mom too. I had to forgive myself for guilt I was harboring and I, symbolically, "gave" my pain back to the one who caused it. I will never forgive and certainly never forget, but I couldn't hold on to it anymore. It will be 8 years in a couple weeks, we miss him everyday, but we are doing so much better.

I found it almost impossible to forgive the man who failed my husband and caused his death. It was gross negligence and if he had been at his post instead of walking around arguing with his gf he would be alive and fathering his 3 children. It fostered and fostered. I ignored him at the funeral, at the court case and for years. It wasn't until I fully processed the grief that I finally came to terms with it. I then realized his grief and guilt must have been heavy. I couldn't imagine how hard it is to deal with knowing your stupid fight could have waited until my husband was safely down the pole. So I let go, I forgave but oh it was so hard to do and took me years. I am sorry for your loss and am glad you are finding your peace.

We used to lay down on benches at the bus terminal and just sort of walk around dazed, unsure how to get on the bus again lol.

Lizziejnb Hindsight is 20/20. It is very hard to recognize red flags in the moment when it’s your own relationship, especially when you are dealing with someone who is a master at manipulation. Often the red flags are very minor and easily explained away. They don’t stand out until after the person leaves their abuser and is able to go over their relationship history with a fine tooth comb, analyzing every detail, but when in the relationship that’s not how you process things. Yes, if you do notice and notice red flags and they make you think twice, don’t question your judgement and leave, but it’s also important to recognize that it’s not always that easy.

It is so important that you know that when a man is willing to leave his life behind for you, drop everything, take up all your interests, work so hard to ingratiate himself into your life, it is a huge RED FLAG. As women we have been given some really unfortunate messages about what is "romantic" or "charming", but a guy with no real life of his own is a really bad thing.

@@robbiejohnston9409 that’s because other people can influence you and force you into having sex when you’re inebriated when you might not want to do that if you were sober. Not to mention you can still be convicted of rape if you were drunk when you forced yourself on someone.

@@bellablue7661 It is rare to be convicted of rape while drunk, very rare. Most often in my law studies, cases have been tossed, ended in acquittals or similar because you don't have enough physical evidence to prove it wasn't consensual when you only have one person's story. It does happen, but being drunk does count as not being in your right mind in the eyes of the law and is used as a defense of many things. Driving drunk is different because people can obviously tell you were driving, test your blood and know that you never should have grabbed the keys. Arguing consent is much harder. As for his cough medicine defense, it works sometimes, depending on the situation. Yes, he chose to use saidsubstance, but when we are talking addictive substances, the law has some laxness in regards to fault. There are cases of users of other drugs (probably codeine too) being let go in favor of seeking rehab/therapy.

He tried to warn her and she was in the love bubble. I've told both of my kids to never tell someone you're breaking up with them, just wait until you can safely leave and do it (no warning for potential murderers). They each know they will be supported financially until the get back on their feet (they won't be in our house either so they can't be found). I even told my sister she could use one of our empty apartments if her new boyfriend - who she moved in with after knowing him a week- ever scared her. They just need to not go back. SO many people go back, or are conned into a "goodbye meeting" and get killed.

I was in an abusive relationship. My grandmother couldnt stand the guy and didnt trust him. She had a bad vibe and thought he was a bad guy from the start, but she never said a word. She kept it to herself and always acted polite around him. After I left him and everything came out she told me how she had felt about him and my mom asked her why she never said anything and in her words she said "it wasn't my place to tell her who to love" my grandmother did feel guilty for not voicing her opinion earlier. I told her if she had told me I would have left him because I felt weird about him too but everyone seemed to love him so I thought I was just crazy, if I had one person share my feelings I might have believed my own instinct. My grandmother felt guilty but I told her it wasnt her fault. So I can understand why her father felt that way. If he had been more vocal about not liking him maybe his daughter wouldnt have married him and maybe would still be alive. Guilt is a powerful thing.
