I’m jealous...I lost my XHP version of the Recon 1. Tried replacing it with the Canadian Uncoated version that was still advertised as XHP but ended up with S35vn blade. I do have other blades in XHP and have always loved how long that sticky sharp edge lasts on folders compared to the steels you talk about. I have a stripped and polished Broken Skull in XHP that has amazed me with it corrosion resistance. Also noticed that XHP handles a polished edge better than the Cruciple’s CPM steels I’ve tried. Recon 1 has been my go to outdoor folder for about a decade now...

My “Safe Queen” is a Code 4 Clip Point In XHP...while I’m impressed with DLC coating’s I kinda just view coated blades as tools...

The predecessor to my Recon’s is a now retired Benchmade 805 TSEK M390 Axis Lock knife, before that I wore out a Lone Wolf T2 Ranger... wish I still had one.

I have seen the Recon in many videos. I just noticed the handle, size, and shape were very simular to the Emmerson CQC-8. I don't know why it took so longe for me to make the connection. The CQC is a wonderful knife and I use it all the time.

I don't know about that.. I mean, I guess at a quick glance, sure, but they feel really different in my hand. There's a much greater distance between the front finger and back of the edge on the cqc8, and the back of the handle has a swell as opposed to the Recon 1s semi-taper. Those two things may look like small differences in pics, or maybe even feel small after a quick "ergos check", but they make huge differences to me in actual use. Everyone's hands are different, though.
