Didnt like these at all at first. Now i think the serrated version might be perfect for edc.

BD1 and BD1N are just takes on old GIN-1 steel Spyderco used to use. It's alright, but BD1N has nitrogen, so better corrosion resistance and maybe a little better edge retention. I never noticed much of a difference in edge retention and sharpening between the two. VG-10 is a better steel. Proven.

That particular billhook is €40-50, its made by Spear & Jackson(probably others as well, so it stands to reason that you can get a cheaper version, but to get one for €10, you need to shop somewhere in the mid 80's)

That is such a good model. I personally prefer my Police LW in K390, but this is my second favorite K390 model. The Stretch XL will be available in PD1 Micromelt very shortly. Gonna pick that one up.

Why not use aluminum as a liner rather than steel?
@helterskelter1568 күн бұрын
BD1N loses its edge extremely fast, from my experience. Even though it is super easy and quick to “touch up” (strop or ceramic), I find this type of edge retention just a bit too inadequate for my taste. Especially when it comes to fairly abrasive materials. I resort to using BD1N knives in kitchen, only. This knife pattern does sound interesting, though. I’ll def try the Magnacut version that should be out, shortly. I always found the newer FRN Native models a but too “blocky” in hand. Something about it just never feels right in so many different grips. Hopefully they did better with the Native Chief LW. I think it could make for a good comparison vs Police LW - a model I really enjoy, this size. Thanks for the video. I thoroughly appreciate the opinions of folks who actually use their knives..!
@megaronknives30328 күн бұрын
i only have that lack of edge retention with factory edges. As soon as i put Bd1n to a stone it cuts way longer. My edc uses consist of a combination of many different things, so i did the cut test accordingly. Still think it is underrated by most people. Magnacut will definitely give you a longer lasting cutting edge though. Thanks for your input.
@helterskelter1567 күн бұрын
@@megaronknives3032 I resharpen all my knives as soon as they come from factory. BD1N does well with a polished edge, but in a world where you can get MC, S90, K390 and other great steels, BD1N definitely gets very little love.

That's a white stork. They're cool as hell. We don't have them in North America, but I've seen them in Malmö a couple times. I haven't used bd1n much in PE, but I have tons of experience with it in SE. I've broken 2 of the "teeth" off. I do tons of dumb things with it, but I've done far dumber things with SE k390 and never broken any teeth off.
@megaronknives30328 күн бұрын
Yeah we have them a lot here. Very smart creatures. Hmm hard to say, there are a lot of variables here. Did you do the exact same thing with both knives, was it prefractured, was it overheated while sharpening... overall K390 is probably thougher, but chipping on serrations are not unusal in my opinion.

Small Inkosi for me. I’ve had both large and small Sebenza, small Inkosi, as well as a Zaan. I got a small Inkosi a few years ago, but sold it after a month, honestly, not because I thought it was too small, but forums and video reviews kinda talked me out of a knife I liked prior to watching the reviews, after I bought it. So what’s changed? I bought a new one a short while ago based on missing the one I sold a while back. So once the noise of other owners dissipated, I found myself wanting one again, proving I had outside influence. Now that I have one and carry and use it daily, I really enjoy it. But like you said, I also fall into the Techno 2 crowd, so it does make sense. I have larger knives, such as an XM-18 3.5 and a few Medfords, but as nice as they are, there is something to be said for a small Inkosi being as stout as it is, yet disappearing in your pocket. I find that the small Inkosi is enough for anything you might encounter, shy of camping/survival tasks, but in those moments, hopefully you have a fixed blade to compliment your folder, regardless of what it is. I do find the handle at the minimum limits of my medium/large glove size hands (I’m in between those sizes). I can fit all 4 fingers on the handle though. It’s really just a preference thing. I’ll give up size for carry comfort. I don’t find myself looking for more blade or handle. It’s personal preference though.

I absolutely can not get the hook to stay on the stop pin in the bottom of the action.. itll stay until i put the thumb switch back on then it just will not stay. How did you keep that thing on there??
@sterlingmoss272 ай бұрын
After 2 hours I finally got it to stay... if anyone comes to this video with the same issue, what ended up helping me was getting the thumb switch on before putting the springs back on, and keeping constant pressure on the thumb switch while latching the spring on the pin and carefully getting the top scale on (whilest keeping heavy pressure on the thumbswitch) and screwing all the screws in before finally releasing pressure. If you don't keep pressure, the plate will come up ever so slightly and will not allow the latch to stay on the pin. Hopefully that makes sense and helps anyone out there struggling to get that action back on👍

I have a Cold Steel San Mai SRK, that I bought 4-5 years ago, with the sole purpose of destroying it. I baton firewood, and use it a ton for yard work. I've used it for digging out sprinkler heads, and chopping up tree roots in the ground. Each time, it only take a few swipes of a Ceramic rod, and leather strop to bring it back to razor sharp. By abusing it like I do, I absolutely trust it, and know, that if I ever needed to depend on it in a life or death situation, it would not fail, under any circumstances. That's the nice thing about brutally testing something under controled circumstances.

I have the Blade HQ exclusive in M4 with Jade G-10 scales. Initially the hump in the middle of the handle bothered me but ive gotten used to it. I don't feel this is, at least for me, an EDC due to the handle and the fact the tip is so fine I would be wary of snapping it off. It's also too menacing looking to use in many public spaces. For me it's a dedicated defensive blade and I have no doubt it would inflict severe damage on a criminal attacker if I found myself unfortunately in such a situation. I like it so much I could see getting another one.
