Today, I review the Cold Steel TiLite VI pocketknife. And after hearing me call it jackassy over and over again, it fights back. Also, sorry for the rough edit, absolutely was not a brilliant man that day.

The ti-lites are tough with a lightening fast deployment. I've carried the 6 inch (VI) for years & the one time I needed to deploy it in a "sketchy^ situation...the opposition decided a hasty retreat was in order & all ended well. This is a stab/slash knife built for speed & reach...all good things in my book.

Egghead isn’t that kind of the point ? God forbid, you do ever have to but Isn’t it better to have a 6 inch blade vs a 3.25 in a real life or death self defense situation ? I don’t know about you but if I ever have to pull a blade out to protect myself...It’s pretty much an all bets are off type of situation. Point said if you ever have to use a blade to protect yourself...you might as well use the longest blade that you can effectively ...and cut to the chase. I don’t see edc’ing to protect yourself as a grey area let’s use a box cutter type of situation .

I've carried mine almost constantly for the past 7 or 8 years. I literally never use it for anything, so it still has 100% of the factory edge on it after all these years so far. The only thing it ever cut since I got it brand new was my finger the first day I had it, I accidentally grazed my finger with it just barely and didn't know I had the cut until I saw the blood because of how ridiculously sharp it came, and the blade is so thick and heavy you have to make sure you can maintain control of it at all times especially when it is in an unlocked position. I too believe that it does have an innate thirst for blood built into it one way or another and mine has been standing by for all these years just waiting for things to go south far enough that somehow I'm in a situation where the only thing I have left to fight with is a knife. I hope that never happens to me but if it does then at least I will have a lot of knife to work with.

Depends on where he lives and what the local laws are. Many places don't have blade length laws and it isn't an auto. Also he was using it to cut food which is a totally acceptable use under most laws. As long as he wasn't using it in a threatening, defensive manor that would imply it was a deadly weapon not much anyone can do about it. Then again in some cities, counties or states you would be screwed. Even then I would be willing to bet if you were polite about it all they would do is take it from you. From what most cops have told me normaly knife charges are something they tack on to another charge so you will plead guilty to the one they want you for.

...I vertically carry this knife everyday in my left rear pocket next to (2) 10mm magazines- this is a get-off-me-blade. It also doubles as a VERY effective kubaton, especially with the quillion 'flippers' on the one end. The TiLite VI is a specific purpose blade-personal protection. It doesn't need premium steel since it most likely will never be used for EDC cutting usage-you carry other blades for EDC. ''Jackassery" is a very good word to describe this knife! Loved your review and hope your finger is doing better! I LMAO and am so sorry I did...but I just couldn't help myself!

srg914 Being a knife snob or should I say aficcionado is an extremely small niche, most people just want something that works when needed. Well a knife is meant to cut, stab and slice, any blade with the least sharpness will do that, so any blade with the least sharpness is good enough and will do the job
@whiskyguzzler9826 жыл бұрын
This knife was my first EDC knife. I loved it for the cost, smoothness, and the reach. Working in network racks, the pocket sword could get into the little tabs on network cables. It opens mail amazingly. It is the very longest thing that fits in a normal pair of pants. The war crimes reaction is what stopped me carrying this. My EDC is now a PM2, a better knife in most every way, but I do miss the functional reach of this old friend.

I use to have the same knife and it had it uses. I live out in the sticks and I'm always finding myself needing to chop big weeds that grow up in my trails so It use to be one of my EDC blades. It actually worked pretty good for that. It was better than having to run around with a machete all the time. Some friends stopped by one day and wanted to go to the liquor store for some smokes so I road with and forgot to take it out of my pocket. While we were there another friend that has a blade addiction like me showed up and without thinking anything about it I was like hey check out this crazy blade I got and whipped it out of my pocket. I heard a couple people gasping behind me and turned around and everyone in there looked like they thought I was going to start stabbing people or rob the store. I probably do look like the kinda guy that might do something like that I imagine lol. Me and my boys made a fast exit before people started dialing the cops. Those blades would be first rate for what they were designed for and they make great mini machetes but I never found them very useful for anything else. I downsized my EDC blade after that so I didn't end up back in town with it. I was lucky I didn't get in trouble cause those are too big to legally carry here. Someone stole it and hope they get caught carrying it. That'd be karma for stealing part of my collection lol. I was kinda fun to play with though. Sometimes it's fun being a jackass. :)

I find this review most amusing from a number of perspectives. First -- A man is surprised in his kitchen by a home invader armed with a knife. The man turns towards the knife block in his kitchen and draws out the 4 inch paring knife, not daring to draw the 8 or 10 inch chef's knives for fear of being a "Jack Ass".

Nick, I have one of these (the later one with two rows of holes down each side) and surprisingly, no, it isn't the knife I poke fun at the most (probably because the knife I poke fun at the most was never intended to be jackassy...), but I can tell you that indeed, I do not have much in the way of applications regarding practical use of this knife. But there are two things I use it for, and as such, it gets a lot of use. I use this knife to open letters and packages. Yes, I know, but I do get a lot of letters and packages and as you said, this is a knife to basically jackass around with. To me, the Ti-Lite VI is a knife that's fun to jackass around with, so it's what I use as my letter opener. I have broken down cardboard with it--I've done that with every knife I own at least once--and cut through clam packing with it (also something I do with a lot of knives at least one), but just having a 6" bladed, liner-lock stiletto on more steroids than Barry Bonds really kinda says "I'm a knife guy" whenever I open my mail. Granted, if there are other people I don't know around, I'll use something as "non-scary" as possible, but if it's people who know who I am, well, out comes the Cold Steel Ti-Lite VI.

Stopped at the 8:46 to comment and then back to the show. :0) I purchased this in ( I think) late December? I would have NEVER purchased this in Aus8 nor 10. But I see the date of this review and I am sure that Lynn was inundated with messages (like by me and others I am sure) saying something to the affect of (me speaking) "Lynn - can you please make this with blacked out G10 handles and upgrade the steel." Lynn as always delivered, man - I miss that guy already. Little did I know they would then deliver with a ALL BLACK in S35VN!!!! I never owned S35VN before! It is by far my largest EDC folder, I guess the closest would be the Super7 by Emerson, maybe the Gerber 06 Auto Tanto in S30V but the Emerson is still bigger. But I don't have many knives and every knife I have DOES have a specific purpose. You can only have so many knives unless you're one of those that goes overboard and has "safe queens" etc. I don't. I use my knives for general things you do with a knife but the main thing I do is that I whittle a LOT with my knives and this knife and the Gerber 06 Auto are absolutely PERFECT for wood work and getting in the nooks and crannies. Make no mistake about it, the S35VN blacked out is an absolute joy to use for whittling etc. I see no jackassery is having a piece like this Nick. What's funny to me is that you got bit by AUS8 steel...lol....deserves you right. :0)

I looked at these knives for several years, contemplating a reason I would get one. The six is too much, but I got the 4” version because it was on sale for $41. It is a novelty but at least the 4” doesn’t look quite so psychotic. I doubt I would carry it because of the negative attention it would draw. It is just a curiosity for my collection.
@Darksjeik4 жыл бұрын
I held both the 4” and 6” in my hands and felt like a 4.5” would have been the sweet spot for me. For the style of knive I felt the 4” was slightly undersized but the 6” looked almost comically oversized so I did settle on the 4”. What sold me on it besides the look was the build quality and snappy but smooth action. Great little piece, even the zytel version.

First of all they make a smaller version for places where you can't carry a 6" blade. 2nd I would consider this purely for personal defense when you're walking to your car at 2am when it's scary and quiet and you can't carry a gun. In my experience these are solid defense weapons that I have not cut myself with to date. See me later because I am a jackass and might whip it out to show my buddies after a few drinks.
@tommyss4l5 жыл бұрын
I've carried the 4 inch for a long time and it's absolutely designed to be a thruster. I would say the best way to use it is in a sabre grip, and from below the quilons. They have stopped me from running my hand up the blade.
