This video is basically about teenagers who buy fragrances to please women. The average middle aged dude doesn't get "scammed" or read the cringe description of the newest release. We're men who wear Guerlain Vetiver or Beau de Jour and go to the bar and smoke a cigar and enjoy life. Cause we like smelling good for ourselves. Not for panty dropping or clubs or women. A compliment is a bonus but not even the reason frag heads wear it. This video is for children. Not men. It's for those who have zero understanding of fragrances and who have $50 allowance from their parents and wanna waste their money at the mall. No real person who is interested in smelling good goes out to buy fragrances to bring in the opposite sex nor get duped into buying pheromone gimmick fragrances.

Legit, who hurt you? Yes plenty of people buy fragrances because they want to smell nice to other people as well as they like the smell themselves. You are delusional and projecting some sort of trauma. Dumbest form of gatekeeping I think i've seen online.

Teenagers are always on social media. Companies throw shit into everyone's eyes on social media. They're going to see fragrances and think that's how they'll pick up the chicks. We're old enough to know it takes a lot more than smelling nice to get a woman to want to be near you. And we're old enough to know that smelling nice for one's own comfort is what we're about. Have a look at my comment for the full story on my feelings towards fragrances and on a final note, your reply was spot on mate. I enjoyed reading it!

I usually don't comment on many posts but I found this interesting. I very much enjoy fragrance not at all to attract the opposite sex but for myself. I wear quite difficult scents, for example, my favorite fragrance in my collection is Orto Parisi Cuoium. This fragrance is one that I often hear my friends say smells "odd" or "gross" but I still wear it on a very consistent basis because I love it. I am 14 years old but I still love these difficult scents because of their artistic and self-motivating value. I save my money for a long time to purchase these things not for others but for myself. Even though I see a lot of kids around me who love their "tik tok" fragrances to attract girls around them I still like to remind them of the art form in fragrance and to enjoy it for what it is. So I don't think that fragrance is only for MEN but also for teenagers who can actually appreciate fragrance.

I am a hobbyist, I collect because I enjoy. I spray colognes when I’m in the house with no one around. I enjoy compliments when they come but I don’t chase it or purchase fragrances based on whether it’s universally loved. Cologne is subjective and just an added way to show your personality.

Fragrances absolutely CAN NOT get you laid. In a social setting, the fragrance can serve as an " Ice Breaker" or "Conversation Starter". After that, it's up to you and YOUR social skills to do the rest. No matter how good the fragrance smells, it CAN NOT compensate for a man's weak game.

When you are young it's mostly your looks and social status (football quarterback...) which gets you laid. When you get older money plays also an increasingly big role. Social skills when you are an ugly short constuction guy which is currently broke doesn't help you at all. Meanwhile it gets clearly more hard to get laid because many reasons. The main one probably is the 80% 20% role induced by online dating mostly carried out with dating apps on the phone meanwhile...

I have over 100 bottles of fragrance, so you’ll rarely find me not wearing something. Often times I’ll just wear something around my home to enjoy the scent myself, but when I’m going out into public I try to consider a few things before I select my fragrance: 1. Will I personally enjoy wearing this today (I have different moods that one fragrance might cater to better than others) 2. Does this fragrance fit the environment I’ll be in (I don’t want to wear super strong or pungent fragrances in certain scenarios) 3. If appropriate, I’ll consider what the person I’ll be spending time with or the people I’ll be interacting with would enjoy smelling on me. I try not spend more than $200 on a bottle of fragrance and if I want something above that price I just purchase a sample decant. I think I once spent around $220 on a bottle of Layton, which is the most I’ve spent on a bottle.

Niche...are just WAY over-priced. Yeah, it's better quality, but they are ridiculously price gouging consumers big time. Besides, how do we know how good the ingredients are other than to take their word for it? Sorry. I'll NEVER buy $200- $500 perfumes. That's just a waste of money. only expensive bottle i ever bought was bleu de chanel. i tried it in a store when it was just released, i think it was early 2011, it was just accidental. i tried it, got blown away, and bought it. i don‘t have money, i never did and i very likely never will. but after many years my interest in fragrances is back. i‘m on the verge of finishing my second bottle of bdc edt and i probably will get myself the eau de parfum for christmas. back in the day the edt was maybe 65 €. i just love it, it blends perfectly with my natural scent and it‘s noticeable on my skin even after 24 hours or more. i got a bit bored by the top notes, that’s why i want to switch to the edp. i don‘t wear it for other people. my partner doesn’t particularly like it, but hey. i get compliments from time to time, but i don’t wear parfum for other people, but i appreciate the compliment, because it shows me that the other person likes the thing i like. i in general wear the things i like and often other people don’t like. 99% of the time i super don’t care what other people think of me. so if you want to frame it positively you could say that i‘m independent in my actions and expressions and don’t rely on pleasing people. if you want to frame it negatively you could say that i‘m not self aware. both is probably totally true. ❤

This was my reply to the original video a couple days ago.... "Yo. Dude. We had teenagers dropping hundreds on Air Jordans years ago to be more like Mike.... Several industries sell you a dream. Cosmetics can't make you more beautiful, they just mask "imperfections", much like fragrances do. Clothing companies charge high amounts for items of clothing that won't make you look more amazing but people feel more confident owning those garments. The car industry shows you that owning one of their vehicles will open the world to you, in several ways. That's marketing. As for the smelly stuff, I'll admit I own a lot of fragrances. Do I buy them because of advertising? Nope. I buy what I want because it smells nice and I enjoy smelling nice. Choosing a smelly for the day is like choosing a shirt or a pair of trousers: What's the weather, what am I doing today, what sort of mood am I in, who's going to be around me today...? Certain smells make me feel happy, some make me feel mentally stronger, some make me feel sexy, some make me feel positive when I know the day is going to be tough. It's not down to advertising, it's down to the smells and the way I perceive them. I also work in hospitality, so around a lot of people, and I like to know that I don't smell like armpits by the end of a shift. I also have several colleagues who appreciate the way I smell. And I won't lie, it's nice to have a female colleague come and give you a hug purely because she wants to smell you a bit more or one of them tells you smell amazing. Has a fragrance got me a leg over solely on its own? Nope, but a fair few of them have certainly helped over the years ;)"

And the reason I wear fragrances is not because I want to smell good for other people, but because I love the fragrance experience. Discovering the progression of the perfume over time, discovering the perfume.... It is more about the experience, especially with niche fragrances. It's not that different than choose your outfit for the day, really. I am a women, but I give a f*** about compliments. Personally, I think its ironic to claim to definitely know that fragrances don't get you sex whilst claiming to know that Evolution is proven, specifically that we are designed to smell the 'health' and status of a primeval mate. Evolution has consistently been disproven. I wear fragrance because I absolutely love the artform of it. I love the journey, its production, the packaging, the community, even making my own. The marketing on fragrances should never be taken seriously. I cringe at just how much these companies have to make in order to break even! It's marketed towards sex because sex usually sells. It wouldn't sell nearly as well if it were marketed as another art form. Fragrance has always been a status symbol historically, giving the wearer a larger-than-life impression on whomever. That could be for sex, but it could also be for dominance and control, power, or even an odd way of protection (I have often put on certain fragrances with the purpose of creating space for myself). I feel like we are in a world where we cannot help but smell like something and I like to have put thought and effort into every aspect of my life. I would rather smell like what I would want. Good video, great reaction. Thanks for the video!

I think fragrance advertising is made so memorable yet vague, confusing and outlandish because how do you visually market a scent? Bloody hard to explain to the masses why a base note of tonka bean will add a nice gourmandy warmth to the fragrance, for example. No, they make them stupidly memorable so people will go out and try them. Meanwhile, people who know a thing or two about fragrances just say "Christ on a bike, what the Hell does an ambroxan-heavy scent have to do with burying shit in a desert whilst listening to words that make no damn sense?!?!" And in the case of burying shit in a desert, Dior continue to make a killing on the Sauvage line! We don't take it seriously because we need to put our noses near it to appreciate it. Because we know better than most :)

I started wearing fragrances for myself. I work a non-medical position at a hospital. During my shift i’m up and down the hospital, every unit. I can’t tell you how many horrid stenches I’ve come across. I thought, I’ll wear a fragrance and drown myself in a sillage cloud and hopefully that will make my day pleasant. I didn’t realize I would go noseblind. However, during that time, I’ve come to appreciate the fragrance world and it’s very much something that I indulge for my own satisfaction.

You seem to disagree about those numbers in the stats. For me, I love perfumes etc, but I developed a condition / reaction of which is very real. I love floral smells but if. I am within a few feet like from a "flower bomb" i will get a migraine and feel unwell, or some scents that are totally chemical and smell crap but teenagers lime them, I have to take in a short time paracetamol tablets if i'm lucky. Go outside or get some distance. So yeah, they make me sick, nautious various issues. While on the other hand I can tolerate other more subdued smells or dufferent class of smells, like bay rum, most fougure and lighter ones like Green Tea or powdery like Lilac or Roses etc. Now i am in to incense, woody or moss / green and spicy. But yeah, i love plenty but need to keep my distance from some like 6 feet so they won't irritate me. Heck, i cannot even drink most soda's due to thdir additives!

My most expensive and signature scent is Dior Fahrenheit because I layer le Perfume with Edt (ratio 1:2) so approx 250$ for both bottles. Any bottle over 150$ and especially "Niche" I gladly use/buy only the clones. But in all honesty in Sweden most Workplaces and Schools have no perfume policies or restrictions due to allergies which makes fragrances or wearing them obsolete or an uneasy and GUILTY pleasure, so the video is pretty accurate however I am, due to the hobby and collecting, scamming myself really.

I think everyone who wears fragrances enjoy compliments on them as they do the clothes they wear and the hair cut they have as well as many other things about them. You put time and money into the hobby and you wear something appropriate for the situation you will be in. Most know that you are not going to get many compliments from complete strangers any way. I do get some from like the ladies who cut my hair or maybe a waitress or cashier. I do not always wear fragrance to get compliments but I wear them because I like them and even if no one comments on them I know they smell good. Some compliments are not verbal. Sometimes you notice people leaning in closer and smelling you or you walk by and notice them look back at you and smile. I do not always wear crowd pleasers I like more oud fragrances and tobacco that sometimes also get compliments but not as much as Layton. Eros, or things such as that. One of my Tom Fords is probably the most I have spent could not say for sure what the most I have spent on one bottle is. As far as clones I think they have their place but I always like to have the original. Just my opinions.

When I was in High school I bought a pheromone fragrance that supposedly worked bc a friend of mine told me about it. Basically I remember wearing it every once in a while, and idk if it was because of the smell or the pheromones, but my female friends would jump all over me. I had much better fragrances, but they seemed to react more with the pheromones.

There are some valid points but at the same time the video is mostly a one sided argument. If people fall for the marketing then sure its a "scam". I never watch ADs or read write ups about fragrances. I'm more interested in the scent itself. I wear fragrances for myself as a mood booster. Compliments are a bonus.

Yes, there are reviewers that can't even pronounce the word fragrance. One of them is Thomas LinScent. He says it "fre-grence". And he says it ALOT. Almost like he knows it irritates the HELL out of me. Lol. But first he has to tell you about the weather in his area😡. These are the main reasons I don't subscribe to his channel. Most reviewers know how to pronounce the word, but there are some out there that have a hard time saying it right. People with foreign accents are forgiven. Lol.

Never in my life of 40 years have I thought that wearing a fragrance was going to get me laid. That is a very stupid and immature idea. First off let me say that I've been married for 11 years so I'm not out there trying to get laid anymore. But I started buying fragrances when I could afford them since the late '90s. The sole purpose when I would buy them is I wanted to enhance my scent of just being clean and showered wearing nice clothes and I enjoyed the fragrance. That's it. Back then you actually just had to talk to a female and get to know her ask her out on a date and see where it goes. Sometimes they might say oh you smell great and get real close to you. That is when you have to be yourself and start being a bit charming and not get nervous and act like a dork. But you have got to be an absolute idiot if you think life is like a commercial and you're going to walk through the grocery store and women are just going to jump on top of you and start riding you in the middle of the aisle because you smell good. I personally believe that most people buy fragrances because they just like the way they smell sometimes you get compliments and you go oh thank you. Also the bottles are cool and it's fun to collect them.
