You have to go and see the musical for this, it is so heart wrenching and the bit where Celie said "I'm poor, black, I may even be ugly. But dear god I'm here" they made the song I'm here based around the last bit of that one phrase.

Appreciate you taking the time to watch how my people experience life after slavery. It's still a struggle mentally but we have to be strong as if our ancestors endured slavery. The pain is past down in the DNA due to epigenetics. The Willie Lynch letters started this. They all deserved Oscars.
@Seemsayin
@Seemsayin Жыл бұрын
"Your" people? If I referred to you, or anyone like you, as "your people"... would you be offended by that? If so... doesn't it bother you to refer to it? "if our ancestors endured slavery" If? If your ancestors were enslaved, they endured it, and I'd have to say that they did survive it. Hence... here YOU are! Epigenetics *determines* which function a human cell will have, for example, whether it will become a heart cell, nerve cell, or skin cell. I don't believe that has anything to do with your pain. Life experience, and it's result, are not passed down through DNA. The Willie Lynch Letter is *an account of a short speech* given by Willie Lynch, in which he tells other slave owners that he has discovered the "secret" to controlling enslaved Africans by setting them against one another. Whatever that has to do with what you're talking about.... I'm sure I don't know. But, epigenetics probably wasn't known in the early 1700's.

This film came out the year I graduated high school. I missed the theatrical release but had heard all the buzz & critical acclaim surrounding its 11 Oscars nominations the following year. I rented the video (VHS tape, not a DVD - LOL) & after the first watch, it became one of my all time favorites. The acting is incredible, each played their role superbly & so convincingly. I had only seen Whoopi Goldberg one other time & that was her comedy special (film of her Broadway show). It was phenomenal to watch her switch characters in her one woman show, but it was still comedy... To watch her in this film just blew me away. Hell, even Oprah killed it! Of course I had to read the book after seeing the film adaptation. What an epic tale & the ending of this movie always makes me ugly-cry every time I've watched it over the past 36 years, even watching these reaction videos makes me misty eyed. I get to experience seeing it for the first time again through others' eyes & watching them become fans themselves. The movie is an emotional roller coaster journey. It sheds light on a dark part of history & how difficult times were back then for women in general. But women in the African-American community had it so much worse, from both white men (racism) & those in their own households (domestic violence against them & the children).

Great reaction. I don't trust anyone who doesn't cry watching this movie. My sister & I use so many lines from this movie. If she makes a cake, she says "you bet not touch that cake. I done fixed that cake so I know if it be messed with." I think every woman I know was pointing those three fingers at their husbands. I'm looking forward to the upcoming musical film version.

Ya know... it's odd watching you react, with a 2022 attitude, to something that occurred close to a century prior to your birth. As I'm sure you're aware that, had you been reacting at the time these events took place... your reaction would be quite different, because you would have been a product of those days. You're reacting as though these events are happening now, as you watch, as though some of the characters had the audacity to behave like that, in this day and age. My opinion is NOT here to insult your intelligence, nor to have anyone think that you couldn't sympathize with anyone in a different era. It just LOOKS out of place. Actually... it's kinda funny. This was just an observation. No harm meant. I wonder what those characters would have thought about us, if we could visit them, after the turn of the century.

Forget about it, especially in the deep south of Georgia. Who were women like Celie supposed to turn to, the all-male, all white police force? The corrupt and racist court systems?
