Today we're taking a look at the Colossus Class Heavy Cruiser from the Space Engineers Workshop! Born of a need for a fast and powerful vessel that can keep up with blockade runners and support craft, Gaea Systems was awarded a record deal by the Kosmovian Army after passing trials in 3031 and approved for mass production several years later in 3035.

Love it!! Nice Design!!! Big ships are fun to build and very relaxing. The building in SE keeps me playing this game because I can spend three months in survival and sometimes creative building one ship.

It looks amazing, but having so much of the ship's firepower purely dedicated to broadsides like that kinda bothers me a bit. I really wish the assault and artillery turrets were set up in a superfiring config, rather than stuck in cubbies that block their line of sight anywhere that isn't towards the ship's flanks.

@@TheSlamburger That's the thing with superfiring turret configs - you can still do that without sacrificing effectiveness. The primary turrets would have a 270 degree arc at the very least, so they can both fire forward and broadside.

out of interest not having played with multiplayer large scale ship scenarios myself... do the real life norms fit with space engineers? as in larger ship suiting broadsides (or superfiring) weapon positioning better and smaller craft suiting forward facing better due to their manoeuvrability making attack runs a more viable option, ive watched numerous battles etc but it tends to just show as whoever has more.. from the view of anyone who has actually done it?

I downloaded this with the intent of just adding some mods, wound up completely rebuilding it as it has no jump drives and I wanted more of the guns to shoot forward. There are some nice design elements to this but in the end I had a nice heavy frigate that only had a passing resemblance to the original. Oh and don't be fooled by the landing skids, it cannot land on planets.

@@captainchance23 Had to think about that, I threw a lot of mods into my rebuild, but I was contemplating doing a vanilla one for a friends game. A vanilla version still will not land on planets as I rebuilt the hull in heavy armor and yeah... in a couple of weeks I could have it up.I use this same tag in game if you want to check my builds.

5:07 When this game first came out, was still in early access; I struggled FOREVER trying to get my tunnels and paths to look this inside. Then some S Interior Walls mod came out and that was great for a few years. Insane I had to wait 5 years for Keen to put out actual inside passage blocks. Paid DLC too. I've actually never finished a ship just because I'm too perfectionist haha. I'll just start over when I'm 3/4 done because it's not realistic enough. Ha

One thing I really want to see in these videos is how they perform in combat. That was lacking in this video. Maybe use the wave scenario for that? And spawn 1-2 extra big ships in?

i play space engineers on xbox and i found steam and i signed up but every time i saw people giving their comments on ships it never had anything where i could chat it said i have to spend 5 dollars on it so i thought if i buy it on my macbook or hp labtop would it still let me be able to get ships from steam

It looks good but I know that servers often have hydrogen tanks switched off, which makes me wonder if this was designed for that purpose? How long does this bad boy float in 1g Earth in survival?

What does the “Heat Exchanger Block” even do!???

It's a decorative block that appears to open up, its tied to power consumption. If you use a railgun or jump drive, the consumption from recharge makes them open and for people who like the idea of of heat vents/sinks it's a nice visual touch.

He's done Halo-inspired ships before. His Phoenix-class frigate is basically a streamlined UNSC frigate.

Jesus that is some bad gun placement. Like 3 or 5 of its guns would be able to fire at any one time. The inefficiency of this abomination hurts to look at, 50-60% of the weapons may as well be scrap during a fight. Even if you make the arguement that it could be designed to fight multiple targets, making a ship to do that is like putting a mattress on all the ground around a building in case someone fall out a window. You shouldn't have a ship that is made to get into a bad situation, you have a ship that can fight 1 on 1 very well and be able to escape when overwhelmed to reorganise or run away in the opposite direction.
