One of the most famous of all peplum, helped by a decent budget and co-written and directed by the great Sergio Leone. It was his first real chance at directing and he threw all his prodigious talent into this one. The special effects, especially the Colussus, are very well done and there are some excellent moments. Thanks for this excellent quality version.

Very difficult to find this kind of old Roman or Greek mythology like movie that has a zero-computer animation, but everything is made of real physical building, people, ships, even statues, what an entertaining suspense, cruelty, adventure and anxious for the next moves! Extremely well made! Shold me made more like this than computer animation movie that lacks originality.!

People have no clue about the symbology hidden this movie. All movies for that matter. Reference "The Hour of the Time " with Bill Cooper. The Dragon statues are the "Order of the Dragon". The same Craft Vlad Dracul & our "elite' follow to this day 666. #JesusisKing

I don't remember ever seeing this one! Movies like Jason and the Argnots and The Land Time Forgot, and The Ten Commandments are my favorites!! I love how they made moves back then by mixing acting with theater acting. All this reality TV crap is taking away from the art of real acting. I hope many of you grandparents sit down and watch some of these great classics with your grandchildren ❤️.

Thank you for sharing this. Love these types of films, and NO COMPUTER CGI techno crap, just pure artistic talent and work behind the scenes, plus great storylines and great acting. It is one of my favorites. Rory Calhoun was one of my favorite actors whether westerns or others and he was always good in them. RIP, Rory, you will always be remembered by your greatest fans, one of them is me….God bless everyone…..HIGH 5….👍❤️🙏🏼🇺🇸

A fine example of an extinct film genre: the 'epic'. Largely due to the need for solid writing which can sustain such a journey, which includes well-drawn empathetic characters that we care about. And the good guy and bad girl are fantastic in this respect, marvelous. It's not genius writing, but it holds together, it works. As do all the elements. WOW, a wonderful journey indeed - I even had to look up the history of The Colossus... very interesting.

I watched this film circa 1964, in Cyprus as a child, I was familiar with the story of the Colossus of Rhodes, thoroughly enjoyed it then, great to watch it again, thank you.

It's amazing how they managed with tricks to let the whole town fall it was fantastic. And the Colossus was great although it did not stand at the harbour and was not hollow and fell onto land and not into the sea. But it was a good adventure film and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I did not know any of the actors I only knew Sergio Leone the director.

This movie is Epic! Maybe better than Gladiator. A giant statue of the Colossus, a city and even a Colisseum complete with lions! Terrific.

Movies from this time period are so much better than today's. #1 they actually had to act their parts, they basically had to sell themselves so to speak. Personally I believe that the special effects were even better. These movies had no other agenda other than entertaining and telling the story, back when they knew how to make movies.

I seem to recall watching this movie in a big screen movie theater shortly after it was released. It was rousing excitement and adventure and I remember being intrigued by the colossus. I didn’t recall the story line or the actors, only that there was a big war and the earthquake and the colossus falling into the sea. And, wasn’t the Colossus of Rhodes one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World? It was a real thing in antiquity, but I don’t know how I knew that or how it was determined as I don’t believe the real Colossus survived even in pieces on the sea bed. Again, I don’t know how I or if I knew that, it just seems to be part of my childhood memory. Anyway, I’m glad this movie has been posted here and I have had this chance to see it 60-some years later in the comfort of my home! Rory Calhoun, cowboy and Greek hero!😅

I envy you all who got to see this in first releade!! I had sooo wanted to see this when I was a kid in the '60s, but it never came to my neighborhood theater. I can just imagine how stunning it was on a big screen--the visuals have powerful impact even on a tablet!

Wow, deeply impressed with statue inside stairways all the way to top and all those machineries, etc. Wow wow! I totally agree with Roy said, "amazing" is exactly what it should be saying by anyone or viewer! Built by Greek? Greeks were some kinds of imaginative, engineers, Architecture That requires advanced mathematics to build this kind of structures. Wow. what an imaginative minded Greek people were!

A great sword-and-sandals epic, and you have to love Rory Calhoun. Apparently John Derek was originally cast in the part, but he and Leone couldn't get along and Leone fired him. I think Calhoun works better in the part, with a real energy.

Love this type of old movies. Great acting, great scenery no cgi and no filthy language. Todays movies think they have to show real blood & guts & rely on cgi for lots or costume up someone that looks horrible runs around with chain saws or spikes etc and every other word is f or mf. None of that makes a movie or song any better in fact it makes it worse.

Rory Calhoun? I guess they could not afford Steve Reeves or Mark Forest. Scrawny skinny Rory must have been having nicotine fits having to wait to smoke a cigarette. The acrobat dancers were amazing.

Wow! At 5:30 the procession is traveling over undisturbed dirt. Someone actually told the on-set bean counter to take a hike and that the dirt roadway was smoothed out after practicing the scene. It's so common to see scenes that clearly the shot selected wasn't the first as evidence of at least one previous shot or a practice run-through is visible. Though later there were three shots taken on the same day. The trampled grass didn't fit the timeline of second scene very well and the third scene not at all. All in all very typical of the sword and sandal genre. The screenplay is often disjointed and people doing unlikely things that only occur in the fantasy world of the silver screen. At 2:02:24. I cannot believe Sergio kept that take. After Whatserface died by being crushed by a wooden structure of several hundred pounds the prop suddenly shifted. 🤦‍♂️ Directed by Sergio Leone in his debut as solo director. His next film of note A Fistful of Dollars begat the spaghetti western genre.

A poor film indeed, even by the standards of the time it was made. You’re much better off with Jason and the Argonauts, The Odyssey and Sinbad the sailor. The Colossus didn’t come to life and wreak mayhem and destruction as it should’ve done. A very long slow boring film, a few cheesy lines and well oiled muscular men and a couple of interesting skirmishes, but nothing really to write home about. 5/10.

The film is not as good as the film now. The fighting was so unrealistic and Over acting when they get hit or got stabbed. They have to raised their arms like "Director see my acting, Im dead" Ahhhh'!

Today AI enhancements and computers make fight scenes look effortless. This was filmed when men were hired to do the job. No gender confusion and mental illness back in those days.
