Let's agree to disagree -- Baritones give mellophones a run for their money every day of the week (exhibit A -- the baritone solo used by the 1981 Madison Scouts to lead off the "Memory from 'Cats'" closer) I started as a trumpet player, spent time shoring up low brass on baritone horn ... played bass baritone bugle, then 2d soprano bugle, w/Archer-Epler Musketeers ('82-'84) ... need the sonorous low voices of baritone and contra to provide the foundation for the lead voices ... Semper Fidelis ... /s/ USMC (Retired) ... but NOT USMC musician
