8:08 Actually those are quite historical borders, because Władysław I Elbow-high did titanical work trying to united Polish lands (he became prince of small duchy in 1267, aged 7, and died in 1333, aged 72/3). If anything is missing it is Wieluń land (incorporated in 1339), which is surprising because Sieradz Land is a vassal state (also incorporated in 1339). Although I am not sure about Masovia and Tuetonic Order

24:20 You’re wrong actually. Wales wasn’t fully integrated into England politically or legally until 1542 with the Laws in Wales Acts under the Tudors. Before then, the Principality of Wales still existed under a sort of Personal Union with the King of England (though it was the heir to the thrown that ruled Wales as the Prince of Wales). The Principality of Wales only existed in the north though, with direct English feudal lords (Marcher Lords) in the south.

Holy moly, this map is detailed. I particularly noticed the province of Chur in today's Switzerland is closed off on the Western border by mountain ranges - - but there is a way through to the South. The way South is a mountain pass known as the Lukmanier which was the most important North-South connection of Switzerland at the time. There was no such pass towards the West: The Oberalppass was only built in the 19th century!! If the whole map is as accurate, this is going to be a feast!

You’ve said that Poland should be more divided. At that period that wasn’t already the case - these duchies were Polish “appanages” and vassals, because in 1331 Poland defended itself against Bohemia and the Teutonic Order securing its newly gained independence from the former. Yes, Bohemia, because it was ruled for a brief moment by monarchs of Bohemia. Poland was feudally fragmented from 1138 and it eventually came to an end in 1296 (the king was assassinated and fell under Bohemia), but then in 1320 Władysław the Elbow-High finally crowned himself a king unfortunately uniting only a few of original Polish provinces as ages passed they fell under control of other neighbours. In 1337 Casimir the Great ruled Poland (1333-1370) and he was the greatest Polish monarch. German general Litzmann wrote in the XIX century that Poland in that period became a modern European power from a backwater. His stats in eu4 should be depicted as 6/6/6 and he ruled quite long. He constructed various castles, gave privileges to dozens of cities and expanded infrastructure and country as it tripled in size. Hadn’t he died before a legitimate heir (he was quite prolific and had many bastard sons) Poland wouldn’t have become a noble parliamentary republic, because the first privileges were obtained after his heirless death. These are the arguments that should grant Poland insanely good events in Eu5 at the start. Poland’s power started to wane only in 1650s after 1333. Sidenote: Poland evaded the Black Death, because of its then sparser urban population and Casimir’s the Great locking down the country (yes, lockdown).

I'm from Italy and I'm very upset with one thing: in 1337 Forlì was ruled by the ghibellines family of the Ordelaffi and controlled most of central Romagna, in particular the Ordelaffi took the city of Cesena around 1333, but in the map the tag ruled by the Ordelaffi is "Ces." (Cesena). This is also extremely important because in 1356 cardinal Albornoz launched a CRUSADE against the Ordelaffi and Forlì as we were the last ghibelline city insinde the papal state and one of the things this did was giving Cesena its independence from Forlì. dio porco

When it comes to electors we got the same as in 1444 (Brandenburg, Trier, Mainz, Köln, Böhmen, Pfalzgrafschaft bei Rhein) but Saxony as we know it in 1444 doesn't even exist yet. The Duchy of Sachsen-Wittenberg was formed in the split of the Duchy Saxony in 1296 (Wettiner got Meißen and Askanier got Wittenberg). In the Golden Bull of 1356 Sachsen-Wittenberg got promoted to an electorship. The Askanian family branch of the electorship of Sachsen-Wittenberg died out in 1422 and the Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg gave the title to the Duchy of Meißen (Meissen) in 1423. Therefore the electorship of Saxony only existed from 1423 onwards.

On the Welsh.... Though the Marcher Lords were very much English, they were mostly in the most valuable south (Gwent, Deuhuebarth, Monmouth, Dfyed) . A long lasting revolt after this time would occur lead by Owain Glyndwr who rallied support in the north wet and east of wales.

2 things: 1. Everything being a flexible organization is great. One of the weakest points of EU4 modding is restriction to some form of a single HRE/China. 2 or 0 are not options. 2. The PU stuff is probably going to work like it did in real life. 2 countries have their own laws, customs, and powers of the monarch. What is legal in country A may be illegal in country B. I think this will affect things like Taxes, Levies, Construction, Trade etc.

1337 the HRE had a Emperor, Louis IV, Holy Roman Emperor, crowned in 1327, reigned until 1347. The guy organized in 1337 the englisch-HRE-Holland Alliance, which started the 100years war. And he gave in 1337 the crusade privilege to the teutonic order against lithuia and russoa, which kickstarted the 100 years of conflict. So he were actually a stronger emperor. And his reign pushed the members to the golden bull from 1356, which restricted the power of the emperor, and were the start of the downfall of the HRE.

Wonder if the amount of regiments in front row (as in eu4 begins with 20 and then increases with tech lvl) is more restricted in the passage whem crossing mountains e.g. front row can only have 4-5 regiments when you cross the mountain pathways and enemy is right beyond(cuz in reality if you are at opening on one side and know that enemy is coming you will always try to catch them in the valley or narrow passage for it being THE best way for quality to win over quantity instead of an battle out in open where quantity can just surround and cannae you)

The polsci or sociological and even philosophical term would be institution. In Anthropological Philosophy Gehlen uses institution quite freely to define anything from tribal structures to what we would generally recognize to be institutions, e.g. state institutions, church etc.

One thing because the start date is of project cesar is 1337 and 1336 the last Piast died in Racibórz/Ratibor/Ratiboř/Rattebor therefore because it goes under Opava reign it should be spelled/written differently e.g. Ratiboř. Only my thoughts but in eu4 it was called Ratibor, but it started a little bit later

I am really excited for this game, really. When they started to talk about it, I did not have any expectation, but the more I know about what they are doing, the more I have expectations and hype. But with all of that, I am asking myself a question : we know that the game will start before 1337 ( the dev diary say we have to enact the Golden Bull ourselve, in comms Johan said that the Golden bull is kinda inevitable by 1337, so we know the start date is before that ) so the balance of power does not have anything to do with what we have in 1444. How will that come out in game ? It is obvious that we will never have any kind of ressemblance with the 1444 maps, but what about the great power of history like France/Muscovy that are not in the best situation at the start of the game ? Will the AI be able to manage to get them on top, without nerfing to much the English or the other Russian nation etc... ( I took those exemple because they are the first I did think about, but other like Ming then Qing or so can be mentionned. Can Qing even pop in the game ? )

Ludi: This is amazing! Me: This is amazing, but it's a programming hell! I'm kind of surprised they'd deem all of these as a part of a MVP (minimal viable product) when it is actually extremely in-depth and tied together. With that being said, Paradox can just have my money. I am very impressed by the complex systems introduction and I am surely getting this! I also want to send my best regards to their whole team, and may your health be good, so you can enjoy our money! Bravo!

I would love to see a Holy roman Empire system where you can go Imperial or go republican which has unique bonuses attached to each of them and affects how centralization works, such as do you want more authority or do you want years of sepratism reduced it would make for more dynamic hre mechanics

I really hope that this is gonna allow for nicely fleshed out systems in places like the Ottoman Empire and its relationship with its subjects, the colonial empires, the French Kingdom, and maybe even things a bit out of the timeframe like the German Confederation and Empire

So it says that Unions are "sort of Defensive Alliances" does this mean that we won't be able to use them in offensive wars, or do you think it will be based off the level of integration?

The hre did have things to do with the roman empire, it depends on the timeframe, the emperor was called the roman emperor during the middle ages and only later changed to the roman-german emperor, it controlled large parts of italy for centuries, it only became less and less centrilized since the 11th century.
