I believe irrespective of what the brothers did right or wrong, Jacob was the chosen one from the beginning. Every single person that was chosen by God to fulfill His will was flawed in someway, some adulterers, womanizers ,murders etc.

Edomite yes and Edom means Red. Esau was a red head and very hairy man. That’s how he got the name Edom. Then became Edomite.
