Minecraft servers has gone through a lot of evolution over the years, starting out as the Hmod, moving on to bukkit, spigot and now PaperMC, the online history of server software is very complex and in depth. Thats why i created this channel, to document the events that are now almost forgotten by the old players or just unknown by the new generation of players. So i compiled the first 4 episodes of my series diving into what happened together into one video, so you dont have to skip around on my channel in order to find the next episode, also a lot of my newer subscribers know me more as the guy who does malware coverage and i wanted to give them a quick crash course in what this channel really strives to be, so if your new here and like indepth history and lore, you’re on the right address.

Fascinating. I never really cared for servers, so I didn't understand what the whole EULA drama was about. I didn't even realize Bukkit died during it. Something I'm confused on. When the four Bukkit devs joined Mojang, was it public knowledge that Mojang had bought the project, or was that only revealed later with Jeb's tweet? I wonder if any labor laws might have been stepped on with that.

It was "public knowledge" in the sence that it was announced in the community, but not a lot of people outside knew about it

There is also Purpur, which is a fork of Paper. It’s slightly faster.

Purpur don't add any optimalisations. purpur is a fork of pufferfish and a pufferfish add them

I notice you repeatedly say Bukkit shut down because of the EULA changes but we were actually in favor of them. It was disheartening to see servers making piles of cash from our work and not contributing anything back and we liked the old days of smaller servers run by devs for their friends. The project was shut down because we were kind of burned out and Microsoft buying Mojang was the final straw.

i can tell this video's gonna have 1 million views in around one month... i just think "the entire history of minecraft" would be a better title as it was already proven in the 100m video "the history of the entire world..." also online doesnt add any value to the title imo... just makes it longer for no reason.

i dont really think so... the entire history of minecraft already demonstrates the entire idea and promise of the video and highlights the unique thing about it - you are gonna tell the ENTIRET of it story... you can try this title for a day or two and see how the video performs and then decide accordingly... however banger video overral!!!@@Cygnus_MC

"the history of minecraft" implies it's about the game's development history, not the history of its server softwares.

Could you cover minestom? Or any other non nms server softwares? aka a server without the use of any of minecrafts code. Minestom is so far the most feature complete. Tho keep in mind it isn't a jar you can download but rather a "library" which you have to import into a java project and add features to yourself. Want any mobs, blocks, items, worlds or really anything, you got to make it yourself. I would highly recommend reading about server softwares like these

@@Cygnus_MC Another interesting idea is how builds and building has generally evolved over the years. From people building for hand, going to world edit, voxel sniper, baby reach (infinite reach plugin back in the day) and now using arceon, meta brushes, etc... And ofc the newest tool: Axiom
