Whenever I rewatch Fellowship, part of me always holds out hope that the three hunters arrive to help before Boromir takes the first arrow knowing full well that he'll die anyway. His death breaks my heart every single time, but at least he goes down like a badass

When I first watched as a boy he was my favorite with his shield an pessimist demeanor. It was my favorite character I was so upset as a kid when he was killed . I had his action figure . I really watched hoping they would come save him in time :( . As a 11 year old I definitely teared as each arrow hit him. Such an amazing tale.

When I was young, I loved characters like Aragorn and Legolas, and wanted to be them. As I grew old, I realized that I was more like Boromir, and Theoden. 2 great men, yet very flawed, and their good deeds redeem them.

Boromir is one of my favorite characters in the entire saga. While a flawed hero, he was still a hero. Strong, stubborn, determined. Classic hero archetype.

Weirdly I feel Boromirs death is one thing the movie does much better than the book (it is obviously still awesome in the book) but Aragorn being more unsure of his place in the world and Boromirs final words being a driving force for him in his quest add so much more to Aragorns journey. a man as great as Boromir sees him as his leader and that told Aragorn much that he needed to know about himself. Aragorn being much more self assured in the book makes it a little less heart wrenching although still very much so

I love in the movies how Aragorn takes and wears Boromir's bracers and wears them for the rest of the time. When you seen Aragorn laying on the dais after he passes away, he is still wearing those same bracers. Very nice touch.

I feel in the movies we dont see much of his greatness only that last fight but in the books it is very clearly seen and the lament really makes you feel sad for boromir as you can see the grief of Denethor. The books made me respect Boromir more.

@@neeladrirao9055 I think Denethor as a character is unequivocally better In the book. As for boromir I think some of the parts of the books where they are plowing the snow is great and boromir seems more present in Moria but ultimately I think Boromirs death (for me) is more emotional in the movie because he doesn’t yield to Aragorn right away. Aragorn’s arc being slightly altered is what made Boromirs death hit hard for me in the movie not so much to do with the things Boromirs does besides the final fight. Which I also think is better in the movie and is kind of told in passing or through recounting in the book it (but still very poignant) we are in that moment more in the movie than book to me

Boromir & Faramir are two of my favorite characters in all of LOTR. Boromir's smile as he dies and the "funeral" scene in the books get me every time.

Boromir's arc in The Fellowship of the Ring is a great introduction to the dire straits that Gondor is in. He is the embodiment of a country that is running out of rope and is willing to take drastic measures in order to survive regardless of the risks.

He also symbolises/demonstrates that the people of Gondor have become more warrior-like and how much the knowledge of Númenor has lost influence. The Gondorians of the late Third Age are not longer able to construct monumental buildings like their ancestors and they regard the elves with distrust and fear rather than with admiration and companionship like in the days of the last alliance. There are still remains of the old ways here and there (seen among Faramir's company), but the majority of the people are not that different from other men. Well, Tolkien wrote that this is an inevitable process - the gifted land was taken away and since then, its influence has dwindled slowly but constantly.

Boromir is one of my favourite Tolkein characters. Such a complex and subtle character, wonderfully written by Tolkein and exceptionally portrayed by Sean Bean.

I've always wondered what the Kingdom of Gondor would look like had Boromir stayed true and not fallen to the ring. Aragorn as king with Boromir as one of his chief lieutenants. The line of the King with the full backing of the stewards, it would've been amazing.

the death of bormir in the movies is even better than in the books cause it gives aragorn the reason to finally stop being the ranger and avoid his duties to become the king. way better than give him a sword in rivendell and " heres the sword u are king now". makes Aragorn feel responsable for bormor death and even more important gives boromir peace cause he realizes his ppl wich is the only thign he cared about in the end will be taken care of. I remember first watching the fellowship and not liking Boromir but as I learned more and watched the extended versions I can now confirm he has become one of my favorite’s because of his “failed hero” story arc. He is a tragic yet beautiful story of how even the purest of men can be corrupted by the ambition to do good but can still repent before the end

Denethor was a good man broken by Sauron. He was mad by the end, but his death was a tragedy NOT justice. I was not happy with how he was handled in the films.

I gotta say he makes some good points re the ring to Frodo (up until he gets fresh and puts hands on a hobbit). Them Wizards & Elfs aint living in Mordors backyard gettin regularly shelled on both sides by some supreme evil non human entity on one side and crazy Apache-style horseridin/War Elephant havin Haldrians on the other. Let the Dude try out that ring mayne!!

I feel that one thing Baronir had against him was that he only saw the Ring as a weapon, like a sword or axe. The idea that it would have a will of its own and an ability to influence those around it was alien to him. Some talk about what might have happened had he lived, but fate had only given him a few things to do. Once he had done those things, he was written out of the story.

It's easy to fall into the trap of judging Boromir for being entrapped by the lure of the ring, when actually it's more of a miracle that Faramir didn't.

@@midimusicforever Faramir being immune to the temptation of the Ring (in the books). Every other man who held it was tempted in some degree- except Faramir. The movies cleared it up by making *every man* susceptible to the Ring's influence- some resisting it better than others.

Nomatter what bozza did he kept his honour with that awesome final scene. The first thing he said to Aragorn with his dying breaths were worrying about the little ones and admitting guilt, right after fighting hundreds of orca to protect them. There’s no deed that would not be forgiven after such shows of selflessness and bravery. It always makes me tear up

It occurs to me that if the Lords of Gondor know who Elrond is and where be dwells, wouldn't they also be aware that he is the brother of Elros, the first King of Numenor? You would imagine that Elrond would be revered by the people of Gondor

Them knowing who he is and who his relations are are two different things. Those lords might just know that Elrond is some old Elf lord in Imladris who's been there since forever- without knowing he's the brother of their kingdom's founder.

When I read The Lord of the Rings for the first time I did not like Boromir, maybe I did not understood the character. Now, after having read and reread the book many times, I ‘m older and wiser and I finally appreciate Boromir as the most human character Fellowship .

I love Boromir as a character. Jackson's movies are wonderful, but I didn't have enough information to appreciate Boromir until I read the books. He's the only truly human member of the fellowship, and it shows beautifully.

My favorite character in all of the movies, uplifting Boromir above even the books. Sean Bean was born to play him. Such a great representation of the men of the west. "Yes there is weakness, but there is courage also, and honor to be found in men."

When Aragorn found him, he was sitting with his back against a huge tree, pierced by many black feathered arrows. Around him, spread in a circle, lay at least 20 orcs. He was a true warrior but lost the battle against fighting the temptation of the Ring. But he was a real badass...

Of the Fellowship, Boromir is the most human--he is deeply flawed, prideful, and hopeful for tomorrow, yet carrying the weight of duty to an authority that has clearly lost its way. Boromir may have fallen at Amon Hen, but he was the beginning of Gondor's redemption and acceptance of the return of the king.

Too little is said of Boromir the Brave. He appears only at the Council of Elrond, halfway through Fellowship, and is only referred to in the other books. I had hoped to learn more of the Travels of Boromir, but I don't think it exist in text. Much credit to Sean Bean the Fair, for his presentation of ambition, fidelity and pride. He was the last to leave Gandalf at Khazad-dum and will ever be my captain. The fall of Boromir the Tall speaks not to the frailty of men, but the power of the ring.

Boromir is the best character of the trilogy, don't try to change my mind because you can't. Despite the fact that he only appears in the first movie (technically there are also the flashbacks and he's mentioned by other characters) and doesn't have that much screen time, his character goes through a very significant development and his death is very meaningful, it has a great impact on the story, the Fellowship and many other people all over Middle-earth. I love his character so much that I made him my profile picture, with sunglasses to make him even cooler. It's a real shame that so many people misunderstand Boromir the first time they watch the movies, it's even sadder how some don't really learn anything about him in the end, still thinking of him as a somewhat bad guy. *He was a good man, maybe even the best.*

I cried during this part in the book, years later I sobbed during this part in the movie. Of the many sacrifices the people of middle Earth made to help the hobbits in their journey, this man's was the greatest.

The problem with the crossings at Tharbad being destroyed is: how did Lotho Sackville Baggins know how to trade Longbottom leaf with Saruman without trade stations all the way between the Shire and Isengard? I think Tolkien made some thought errors here.
