Dear Ted, thank you so much, not just for featuring two of my zines, but for expressing so well what I was trying to do with the sequencing - that totally made my day! These mailtime episodes are so encouraging because they remind us just how much interesting and diverse work by photographers, artists and storytellers is out there waiting to be discovered. We wouldn't get to know about it without this channel, thank you! :)

Its great seeing all the creatives around the world sharing their visions with you Ted Forbes, you really inspire so may with this great channel of yours! Glad you mentioned that its all about the imagery created regardless of what type of camera or medium was used to make it. And yes, all Photographers at one point have to think of how images work with other images so the concept of graphic design sure is good to develop.

I stopped in to David’s gallery and was surprised he was there. We talked for 10 or so minutes. Really, genuinely nice guy. Not to mention seeing his work in person like that was pretty spectacular! Love when you share books and zines. Especially from people we wouldn’t typically find on our own!

I've seen many of your videos now since subscribing and I am a huge fan. What sets you apart is your generosity - this channel doesn't seem to be about you! It's really about the art, and about photographers and their photography. Hugely impressed and always waiting impatiently for your next video! Thank you for what you do.

Thanks Ted. I really appreciate your channel because it’s more about the creative process than the gear. When my brain is stuck I watch your channel to get a different take or perspective. In someways photography is like music. In music there are only so many notes and chords to play with. It’s all about the arrangement of those notes and chords that make a song unique. Photography is just like that. Keep up the good work.

I'd be interested in knowing more about that white ink/black paper process--very interesting approach (plus it could save a lot of ink if you like low-key)! I doubt I could get that to work with my Epson P900, as they don't produce white ink...

Man I wish we could get past the snobbery of disregarding phone cameras as "real" cameras. With respect to Mr. Whitmer, the part of his letter which read "this project thus started out as a kind of a tongue-in-cheek acknowledgment of the smart phone as a real camera", uh, tongue-in-cheek? It's cool that he made a zine which started out as a casual collection of subjects that he "wouldn't bother with" if he were using his "serious" camera, and I understand the difference in the technologies, but this attitude is seriously tiresome. I can point and shoot with a $2k DSLR too, or I can process RAW files from a phone camera. The art comes from the artist, not the tools.
@curiousabout1
@curiousabout1 Жыл бұрын
Ahaha. "how much was human effort, and how much is actually real" you say? I'm guessing that you're unfamiliar with any serious photographers that have existed who manipulate their images, or fine art photography, or maybe you just think documentary photography is the only valid use for a camera. I guess we can agree to disagree.
@curiousabout1
@curiousabout1 Жыл бұрын
@Phillip Banes So you just choose to ignore that fine art photography is a thing. Okay then.
@curiousabout1

@Phillip Banes I don't envy you your limited imagination, and I've lost the desire to continue this conversation. I wish you well.
@curiousabout1
@curiousabout1 Жыл бұрын
@Phillip Banes No, I'm just not going to waste my time with someone who doesn't believe that digital art, much less digital photography is valid, or that computers cannot be used as tools to create, but instead weirdly believes that the computer is necessarily making creative decisions instead of the human using the tools. Nor am I going to compile a list of widely respected fine art photographers, or digital artists, or list for you the millions of dollars of sales from said artists, even involving _gasp_ actual galleries. I really do feel sad for you that you don't seem to understand these things, I'm inclined to think that you're not a terribly creative person at all, but not sad enough that I feel responsible for you.
