She focused so much attention on legitimate/illegitimate status that Lianfang was able to cause major problems within the family and get a free pass. She told Lingyi/Shiyi that she knows Lianfang because she watched her grow up/she doesn't believe that she's responsible for hurting Zhun. If she's able to dismiss her actions regarding her favorite grandchild then hearing her venomous words is NOTHING.

@@shontelagrone8713 Whenever she says she watched her grow up - it made me question what exactly was she watching for. She saw her learn an instrument and read but she didn't notice her evil, petty and jealous spirit fomenting. And even in this moment she doesn't actually punish her. She should have been grounded so at least the rest of the household could see GM seem impartial because they all knew she was the favorite. But GM telling Lingfang she should have known the hierarchy, such a hypocrite, you'd been showing her that the hierarchy didn't matter because you gave her the privileges without her have the status of the legal wife. And GM's maid enabled her as well, when she still tried to talk up Lingfang after what they already know angered me again. This realization should have least had her truly treating Shiyi better and allowing her to actual act as a matron.

@@arilu89x I totally agree. The GM saw herself in Lianfang...that's why she continued to excuse her behavior. She even tried to manipulate her son into falling for her...but he wasn't having it. His heart belonged to Shiyi and no one else. If it wasn't for the GM he wouldn't have so many wives in the first place...that's not the life that he wanted...but she didn't care...it was all about what she wanted...so she forced him into accepting concubine Wen, Qin and Lianfang. She nearly destroyed her entire family because she was too stupid to see past her own desires. Yes, I hated everything about this woman especially her dumbass excuse about watching her grow up. I'm thinking she was plastered because any sane person would see through all of the lies...and pretenses. She had to be drunk when she was watching her grow up. Zhun was lucky that Shiyi stepped in when she did because the GM was useless. She would've continued to put him in harm's way. You're right...the GM was a hypocrite... she was the one that gave Lianfang the status of the legal wife by putting her in charge of managing the household...and now she wants to act surprised that Lianfang has overstepped her bounds. This woman created all the turmoil in her family because she couldn't see past status...and Lianfang went along for the ride...her telling her about the hierarchy made me...lol even after Lianfang's true colors were revealed she still made excuses for her. If it wasn't for Lingyi and Shiyi...the entire Xu family would've been in ruins because of the GM's blindspot when it came to Lianfang. The GM's maid was only telling her what she wanted to hear. She knew if she told her the truth...the GM would've punished her...even though she was upset with her.. the maid knew she would eventually forgive her...she isn't stupid...it's called self preservation...lol She saw firsthand how the GM protected her from punishment after she almost killed her precious grandson. She knew exactly what was going to happen so she chose to save herself by talking up Lianfang.
