@abi123The claim that it is anti-semitic has to do with similar claims in the past, of Jewish people in power pulling the strings. Such stories were told in the past to build antipathy towards Jewish people with well-known results. These parallels make several people very uneasy. Conversely, one may argue that it is an overreaction and too sweeping to draw such parallels.

There are Zionist lobbying groups in the UK and U.S. that throw around a lot of money. In the U.S. we are able to track this. We can also see the endorsements from organizations like AIPAC. Anyone who is in denial about this is engaging in gaslighting. You don't understand the concept. Hate speech isn't about facts, the problem isn't that someone is lying. Hate speech while complex is about a generalised hate towards an entire group as distinguished by salient characteristics regarded as markers for that group, or proxies for that group. This can be articulated through things like racial caricatures, slogans, and of course also defamatory lies. But defamatory lies are not about fact or fiction, they're confabulations applied to the entire group. You will pretty much never find any real fact that applies to an entire group of people unless that fact is a fundamental description of the salient characteristics of that group, or of humanity as a whole. I.E. They have a humanoid form. However of course hate speech is often oblique. For instance when certain people say a politician is "owned by a foreign power" in the last few months, that is an invocation of a very well known antisemitic trope that relates to international cabals controlling everything. A person might not mean it that way, but it is a sufficiently well known conspiracy theory that they ought at least to be careful with their language. Subtext is always difficult without additional qualifying information. Likewise Lee's comments about Islamists were textbook hate speech. Assuming Khan is friends with islamists simply by dint of being muslim, asserting unspecified (i.e. no concrete group of individuals, just conspiratorial talk) islamists had "taken control" (again conspiratorial, again no underlying basis for the claim), I could go on, it's a surprisingly long list of factors. People do frequently mischaracterise these things. From the river to the sea, for instance, is often treated as inherently antisemitic, which it plainly is not, indeed no language is automatically hateful. It has to have that intention. And while the history, geography, legal and political aspects are too complex to really go into, one can assume that many people who have ended up using that chant were oblivious to some of its usage, because prima facie it sounds benign.
