yo it's John Madden gamer ngl this is legit peak video, even if I don't think the Pro Controller d-pad is anywhere near as bad as people say. It's probably my preferred PC gamepad (except for needing analog triggers for some games--but the digital input is probably better for some games like i.e. Soulslikes where the trigger travel might be a detriment or some psychological bs like that). Also, the SA2 music in the intro bit is sending me. thanks fucker.

i will dispute the trackpad on the dualsense not being useful, i use it to control the mouse in desktop mode and also use it for some wacky stuff in games like controlling the touchscreen stuff in ps vita emulation it's a unique input that you can get a loooot of mileage out of if you tinker with it, it can even just be macro buttons or keyboard keys if you want it's also is the only one that does gyro and analog triggers without any mode switching like the 8bitdo which is nice the xbox controller does suck tho lol

As a Linux gamer, I had the same problem you had with the xbox controller (bluetooth connectivity) with the 8bitdo pro 2 (except for whatever the A mode is). It worked fine wired but I didn't want to use a wire, especially when the steam deck dock only has 3 usb ports, 2 of which are reserved for my keyboard and mouse. It made me go out and buy a dualsense, which I don't regret. Before that I used a switch pro controller and yeah I can confirm the dpad is pretty horrible. I'm currently playing through super metroid on my dualsense and am enioying it. I now also have three controllers which could prove useful for couch co-op. Also, about the pro 2: one weird thing is that you can't have analog triggers and gyro at the same time.

I bought the same 8bitdo controller and honestly it felt a little cheap compared to the Gulikit KK3. Has hall effect triggers also.

woah great video!! i genuinely had no idea the xbox controllers were that shitty on linux, must suck to be stuck with one of those. i already knew about 8bitdo and the snes styled pro controller, but not the ultimate one, it looks incredibly cool!! i am the one weirdo left alive that still prefers aa batteries over rechargable ones (they last a hell of a lot longer in my experience :p) so not having that option is kiiind of a deal breaker for me, but like, wow, that dock might just solve it, cause like if you can leave it charging without having to make an active effort to take out a cable and find a spot to leave it charging and all that, letting you just have it at 100 percent whenever you want to play, then id be set!! plus the wireless dongle being built into the dock??? that is hella genius, i love that idea so much. ill see if i can maybe save up and get one thru their official aliexpress site (i dont live in the us and i am not even gonna bother trying to import it from there lmao) anyway yea!! keep it up man, love your stuff

I still use my steam controller regularly, the only issue is setting it up on Arch or Gentoo, it always feels like there is something that goes wrong. For me that will always be the coolest controller, I wish steam would give it a second go with their steam deck success and that Wii u gamepad like comfort. I agree with your shilling of 8bit Do, for value especially they’re hard to compete with.

XBOX Controller works great with steam deck but you need update software in controller, after shoud work just fine with Steam Deck. If you have xbox or you know someone who does is easy to do. I think is posible also with pc but i don't know how.

7:40 i had the exact same issue on dualsense. Maybe it was faulty or i am unable to use it, but aside from awful battery life it was the reason i sold it and bought 8bitdo pro 2. Btw the best D-PAD is on ps vita. Change my mind

I was using a guilikit king kong 2 for awhile, then the battery died (I think the BMS on it was iffy, i left it plugged in) and it uses a weird connector. other than that, it was great.

The DualSense is the best controller. I love mapping the track pad buttons to start select and it feels much better in the hands than the Series X controller.

Idk how you missed this, but I would never recommend the Switch Pro controller or any of its generic alternatives. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of buying it. I later realised it has severe compatibility issues with various Bluetooth chipsets, including non-OLED steam deck and Macbook M1s(the only devices I own). It works, but you'll have random disconnects, and it will never auto-connect(and, of course, you'd have to forget the device, broadcast, and pair again every time you wake up your deck from sleep.)

The 8bitdo ultimate wont do bluetooth with android while the pro 2 does,, also the latest pro 2 has hall effect joysticks

How did you use the dualsense and not be able to use all its features? Steaminput supports all of them. even the dualsense edge's Fn buttons. It even supports the internal gyro.

There's applications that let you use the haptic features on pc for the duelsense and edge.

Ive had a better experience with the xbox controller seamlessly working on the steam deck compared to my windows pc, that's super weird you had the problems you did. I actually prefer the xbox dpad compared to the others but the dualsense for 99% of games is my go to now.

I used a ps4 controller until the drift got bad enough to keep getting me killed. I got the 2.4 8bitdo with the hall effect sensors and it's the best controller I've ever used and it was only 50.

How did you manage to pair the Dualsense wirelessly to your machine? I've been trying but I haven't been able to get it working and I find next to no resources online regarding my issue. It's making me consider returning it even though I really like the controller.

The current Xbox controller is the best option, period. That Dpad is a god sent, even for the 2D side scrollers.

As a Linux gamer... the Xbox Series controller works fine on both my Steam Deck and desktop right out of the box. I have no idea why it wasnt working for you on either, but I want people who already have a Series controller to know they should just see if it works for them before they drop a bunch of money on a new controller

If a controller doesnt have hall effect sticks and triggers then it is trash. No exceptions or excuses. The big 3 controllers are all dogshit.
