Crazy how they are about $4,000 USD with the lens and most mint copies are actually the R D1x and sell for $2500 USD body only. If all you care about is the look or image quality, then the Nikon D100 is only $40-100 USD used, lol. Same sensor! Not the same experience of course, but that is an unreal difference in prices for essentially the same sensor, and very similar image quality. I guess I never liked the D100, I had one, but I sold it almost as fast as I bought it. It was a backup to my D1H and D1x. Maybe it was just such a cheap and plastic feeling body? I dunno, but I certainly wont be buying another D100 in 2023. I can't understand why anyone would pay $4,000 for this 6mp camera.
@mikeenslin3009

@@patricksmith2553 well I certainly don't think anyone should buy this unless they are wealthy enough to excuse it or are absolutely sure they want it. What it comes down to with this camera is the shooting experience, the sensor and the electronics inside is not what you get this camera for.

Your comment is a really good statement about that camera because he is actually masking it's performance. I used to photography for over 12 years and the main aspect of this hobby later financial income was the actual performance of a camera, or a lens also the colors of a different film. But by now masking everything with a lot of post production... I think this is actually fooling someone and convincing that you will get what you see.

I think what most still photographers don’t understand is that the survival of film has nothing to do with stills. Besides the fact that BW photography film will probably always be around as an artistic tool the life of color film, at least Kodak color film is entirely dependent on movies. For Kodak photography film is a side thing, it’s a fraction of their film sales and their production. They couldn’t keep their production going with photography film alone because even now, after it’s been scaled down to a minimum, and sales have quadrupled, it would be impossible for them to make it at that scale. Kodak makes basically all their money from film manufacturing with motion picture film. Even a small indy film that doesn’t do many takes and shoots on 16mm goes through more film than the most insane professional film photographer. Just in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic the big Hollywood studios singed another contact with Kodak to shoot and release a minimum of movies on film. Big Hollywood movies, indy films, TV shows, international movies, art projects, and commercials are still shot on film every day. And while it’s no where near where it was when film was the only option, it is still enough for Kodak to make a profit on film now. Something they haven’t done for a decade. With Nolan, PTA, and Tarantino burning through massive amounts of film every three year with them still watching film dailies the question whether color film will survive does not lie with still photographers but with movie directors. Because they are the ones who can really push for the use of film on a large enough scale. And so far things have been extremely stable the last three years.

This channel is so far ahead of its time! I wonder how familiar you (the creator) are with After Effects? Looks like there are some really nice and subtle vfx edits

I just recently picked up an R-D1! There's also the S (basically the same but with a firmware upgrade) and the X which can support up to 32gb cards I think. This is one of my favorite cameras and I brought it to Thailand instead of my RX1RII and had no regrets. Was harder to get a good photo, but the photos that came out well were spectacular right out of the camera. The 1.5 crop factor did force me to go with a 21mm lens just to get closer to a 35mm looking frame, and there's a slight slight vignetting but all just minor inconveniences.

It never gets any less exciting seeing one of your videos! I can't believe nobody's making a modern r-d1, fuji seems to be the only ones trying lmao
