Classic Ghost Stories Podcast - Tony Walker

3 жыл бұрын

On a foggy, night in London, just when the light is failing, a man enters a curio shop he had never seen before. He merely entered to get out of the bad weather, but what he discovers there points to a mystery. Soon we find out that ghosts sometimes aren't what they seem.. A classic early 20th Century ghost story.

Years ago, I visited an old asylum for the insane as a field trip for a psychology class. We were allowed to view the files of former inmates. Each file bore the heading of either “RELIGION” or “LOVE” as the reason for each patient’s debilitated mental state. Very telling, I think, as each of these has the potential for fulfillment and happiness or total misery. Anyway, thanks for a beautiful tale-as always, beautifully read!

More proofs that they were not there to treat anyone, whatsoever. Just to lock them away, and usually do a lot of physical and psychological damage themselves, for: what about career, sex abuse, Christ, at least dozens of other things.

@@SaltyMinorcan I guess that could be true. In film school (I actually used my major, editor) I saw a horrifying documentary on one. I can’t remember where it was from, it was pretty infamous. Maybe Cali or NYC. There should have been some standard set up, of course. Thanks for the info. Cheers

@Classic Ghost Stories Podcast - Tony Walker I just found your channel in December, and I am working through your stories as youtube pushes them to me (one or two every two days). I have not seen it yet, but I was hoping you did it. I will look for your rendition of the Magic Shop for the next story I listen to this evening!! Thank you!! Jip, in the story, reminds me of my children when they were younger (they are 10 and 11 now). Thanks again, Tony!

I love your voice and story telling 💜 This story reminds me of when I returned a cash mistake back to the bank back in the early 90"s. I was delayed a few days due to a sick child. I'll never forget the look on the teller's face, she was in a lot of trouble and the bank was making her repay the money. When you read about him smiling it brought me back to that day. She was so thankful for my honesty. People said I should have kept it but I just couldn't and was so happy I didn't.

Hello, I thought I was up on all eras of ghost stories until your channel, how I missed this atmospheric, dare I say, almost cheery, one, I can't imagine, especially, since I can spend hours dreamily, lost, browsing, in a dusty, piled-up- to-the ceiling! shop. Listening, ah nostalgia, some of the wondrous, unique finds...those days long gone around my part of the world. I probably asked are you an actor and published writer? You are so talented in both areas- seems like you shouldn't be an accountant unless it's the Monty Python or Tony Hancock type. Namaste, Z.

Enjoyed that one Tony, and beautifully read, as always. I especially connected to it, being a habitual haunter of curiosity shops...as my crammed home will attest (were it to have a sentient voice of its own. And who knows, perhaps it does? At least, whenever there are no ears present to listen...). And finally, may I say, only you can chattily comment on the weather and mention it being "the darkest time of year" with an unconscious (?) hint of creepiness in your voice. On to the next story! 😀

A heartwarming story overall but the daughter strikes a bit of a bum note when she puts her father's change of heart down to mental decay and shows not the slightest remorse for the fate of the people he cheated, Maybe she doesn't want to look too closely at the source of her own material comfort? Maybe I'm reading too much into it? But this strikes me as the most interesting part of the story. Anyhow - thank you for this. I like your selection of stories, your reading of them (I find your voice calming- good for evening listening:) and the interesting little comments at the end . All very enjoyable.

Yes, that rubbed me the wrong way, too. Just because other people would act the same way doesn't make it right. If I bought something at a garage sale, lets's say, and it ended up being worth a huge amount of money, I would bring back half of the money to them. Otherwise, it is really cheating them. But, I know everyone has different morals. One of the reasons the rich get richer.
