Back in 1983 I was the brand manager for Sundrop cola. I was told that Charlie Lazear created the brand and it was first sold in Gastonia North Carolina. I was also told when I took over the brand that Mountain Dew was developed by Charlie as well for a local Pepsi bottle .

When I was a kid, my mom took me once a month, to a barbershop on the square in Independence, MO. It had the Coke machine like the ones in this store, put in your money, pull up the lid, and grab an ice cold bottle of pop from the pool of ice water therein. Also, there was a shoe shine stand that had a shoeshine man on duty, this was all back in the early 60s.

My Mama and Daddy owned a house/store just across the Madison/Carroll County, TN line in Carroll County. We moved there when I was 9. We sold it after Mama passed in December, 2002. We still had the scale where Mama weighed the bologna, cheese and other lunch meat, the old counters that were made like the ones in this video, the glass showcases, old cash register, one of the refrigerated drink boxes, the old kerosene container on the front porch. Thank you for sharing the videos and memories.

I love Mitchell's store and it's collection. I especially love the tobacco stuff. I live here in the Old Tobacco Belt of North Carolina and grew up in tobacco. Daddy grew it and I was a full time tobacco farmer until 1996. My family raised tobacco since before the Civil War. These old stores were the backbone of a lot of tobacco growing communities in year's past.

Hello::::At 8:50 I have a 8 foot Oak show case like that. Over 100 years old, I got it 1979 for my shop. I know so well how it feels to start a small store business. Mine was different from most. A C B Shop on side of major 4 lane Hwy. before it became an Interstate. I met people from NY to California, selling and working on C B Radios !!! I closed store and got a Union Job. Guess I'm stuck with Show Case. lol Good memories !!!

The water cooled soda pop machines were the best for keeping bottles the coldest, but from all I've ever heard, were the worst on cooler maintenance and were the proceeded by cool air units in same basic cabinets. I did not like the cool air units. They had bar slides for the removal of soda pop. Trouble was, the mechanism at the end was hard to get the bottle through. By the time you'd get the bottle up and out the bottle cap would hurt your fingers.
