Beautiful intro, you know I always thought the fan art was symbolic how of few true EU fans there are out there with the rise of the new canon. You have five council members in an isolated room, each of them not really conveying any emotion. Combined that with the quiet music in the background and the fact the council itself is pretty small. The scene feels very sad yet beautiful. Like seeing the last members of an extinct race taking in a deep breath as their culture withers away into obscurity. Anyway I am grateful that you guys are making videos. It's your content that show how large and vast the EU is, and that despite the fact there aren't going to be any new stories in that universe. That we the fans, have the power to keep the memory of the EU alive. I wish to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me believe that enjoying the stories of EU is still worthwhile. May the Force be with you all, always.

Darth Bane, Genius Strategist, would plan the search in advance. He would set up stock portfolios, fake accounts, get himself a custom-tailored suit, and present himself as an intimidating, commanding broker who is considering donating to the school. Then the dean would run away screaming and the Dark Lord of the Sith would be confused until Zannah cleared her throat and said, "uh, Boss? You um, you still have a few orbalisks on your...everywhere." "...Do you want to try?" *Sigh* "Gimme ten minutes. You owe me so much for this."

29:00 I’ve always found it interesting that the darker reality of the Jedi is they pathologically can’t tolerate dark siders ( to be fair most dark side users are d bags but it almost like “ you used the dark side, spend a year quarantined meditating an never do it again.) they also have a hard time grasping that they condescend to non force sensitives. ( especially in the prequel era)

Niman is my favorite lightsaber style too. It gives the practitioner an adequate response for pretty much everything and encourages the fighter to be creative in their application of the style. When you do this it allows the fighter to put a very personal spin on the style the more they study and practice. What you get out of Niman is how much you put into it. I love this. It's much like Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do philosophy: Use what works for you and discard the rest.

a common complaint against rey is that she had no practice with telepathy/mind tricks until she frees herself. but she did, several times in the movie before that. she can understand chewbacca not because she speaks wookie but because she percieves his meaning through the force. she also judges finn to be a good man because she is intuiting his mind on an instictive level. also, consider who she influences. a soldier who has no personality, no individuality, and no defense. see how zombie like he walks away and obeys. she didnt gently shoo him into action, she simply strongarmed him into it. whereas obi wans and lukes mind tricks were smooth and subtle like a feather duster, she turned a power washer on him.
@spookasaur3132
@spookasaur3132 6 жыл бұрын
Okay, but compare her power to Luke's and Obi Wan's in general. It took Obi Wan YEARS to become that powerful with the force. Luke, while he didn't take YEARS upon YEARS to be good with the Force, it STILL took him embracing a lot of training and combat with Vader and Palpatine to fully realize his potential. Also, Rey goes from "The Force is real? I've always thought the Force, Luke Skywalker, all of this stuff was a myth/fairy tale. (she even says this during the conversation with Finn, Han, and Chewie on the Falcon.)" to "Look at me I can do everything high ranking Jedi Knights or Masters took years to do in the span of one to two (MAYBE 3 if I'm being generous) days. And while yes, her use of the mind trick was blunt and not at all subtle, it doesn't change the fact that it's a high level technique that you don't just do out of the blue.

Great episode! :D I loved that book, and yeah, at around the 50-minute mark you guys really summed up one of my issues with the Rule of Two. There seems to be a common assumption that the Rule of Two "worked" because it produced increasingly stronger Sith. The truth is, being a Sith is about more than using the most brute force (or Force). The Rule of Two may have worked for them to a point (even this is at least debatable), but I view it as more of a strategy than an ideal. Yoda even admits to himself that the reason the Sith won was they adapted while the Jedi didn't. Treating the Rule of Two as dogma set the Sith up for destruction just as much as the Jedi training to "refight the last war" set them up for destruction.

42:20 that reminds me of a quote that I read from a gold miner in the 1880s “ ever step a man takes holding nitroglycerin is a challenge to god.” Seems to fit when you use the dark side at the level that Plaguies and Sidious were.

50:00-1:04:30 I love the discussion of Plagueis character and the contradictions of his practical and political nature and his double standards for philosophy and the narcissism that drives him, even when he claims it for the greater good. Also, the voice actor for the audiobook is a perfect plagueis and if the character appears again I hope he gets to play the character.( and if not have Doug Bradley do his Pinhead voice.)

lmao know I'm late to the party but I would like to say that Darth Plagueis was my first real exposure to the EU. I tried reading some short novels as a kid, but it wasn't untill after High School that I really got into books and it is thanks to Darth Plagueis I did. I understand your argument about not visualizing the aliens properly as I did not consume any SW media except the movies before I read this novel, but I did THOROUGHLY enjoy the novel and is my most revisited novel and audiobook. I probably listen to it 6-24 times a YEAR (no exaduration) since it came out.

So i wanted to ask you guys; Given that Rey's actress Daisy Ridley did extensive training in staff fighting, only for it to barely come up at all in the movie, do you think that this is indication that as a Jedi, we will see her using the Double bladed lightsaber or a saber spear/Light pike?

Excellent episode. You guys all have excellent chemistry with one another. As for this book, what else can I say that you guys haven't said. James Luceno gets Star Wars and I absolutely love this book. If anything, he should have written TFA's script. It would have been better and more connected then that movie. I digress. As for what my Lightsaber form I'd practice, a part of me thinks I'd be a Soresu or Niman specialist. When I was younger and I fenced, I was more defensive. A lot of it was due to my lack of confidence and just being very risk adverse. But really thinking about it, I'm the guy who tends to be in my head. Maybe, it's the inner economics major, but I like to be deliberate with my actions and carefully assess my situation. In other words, I like to think two steps ahead. And considering how Niman seems to reward that careful planning, I'd probably fall under that camp. If anything, I may utilize Soresu, if anything for purposes of bolstering my defense. But that's just me. I could be very wrong. Overall, I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Something that occurs to me is that Darth Bane really does good by the phrase "wise men plant the seeds of trees they will never sit in the shade of." It's not really relevant to this Forcecast, but it struck me over the past week and a half: How the hell can the Jedi Council justify not giving Anakin a Mastery on the basis of not being mentally ready when they gave one to Quinlan Vos?!
@spookasaur3132
@spookasaur3132 6 жыл бұрын
Yes but also lets not forget, counting Clone Wars material as well that Quinlan Vos had long ago trained a successful Padawan to Knighthood (Aayla Secura), and on that basis alone, that's usually enough to decide if the Knight in question is ready to become a Jedi Master. Anakin failed to train Ahsoka to knighthood, considering she left the Order during the Clone Wars. Therefore, she left=Anakin failed his test, therefore, he was not eligible to be a Jedi Master.

01. Jerec, Sariss, Desann. 3 late legends dark jedi who defying their nature really resembled actual sith in one or more aspects of their mindset. Who agrees and who doesn't? 02. Debate the 3 most iconic crime lords and/or organizations of all the ones existing in star wars! Everyone give their personal favorite top 3 list! 03. Debate all the ligtsaber resistant and force conducting materials in star wars regarding their practicality in actual use! 04. Which are the most underutilized planets in the franchise showcased in games, movies, animation? Everyone pick 5 beforehand, then compare notes if there are any connections! 05. Which are the most underutilized races in star wars portrayed as force users? Pitch a force sect for them that has combative teachings, and also denote a lightsaber form (or two) for them! For example Falleen - > Sith - > Niman. 06. Which are the lesser known force sects of the franchise which could hypothetically train individuals who could combatively be rivals to most well known sith or jedi? 07. Give credit to the more obscure but still perfectly grounded and non-ridiculous lightsaber designs! Everyone portray their own choice and try to concince the rest that their choice is superior! 08. Who would win? Imperial Knights vs Mandalorian Knights vs Jensaarai vs Knights of Zakuul 09. Which old expanded universe vehicle should appear in the new canon limelight? AT-PT? AT-AA? etc... 10. The Muun vs The Pau'ans! Tall people! Who would make the more capable (mostly) melee force user saber wielders? 11. Mon Calamari, Quarrens, Nautolans, Selkath! Out of the 4 most well known aquatic races, who are the most versatile in all possible battle situations as jedi or sith? 12. Trandoshans, Barabels, Chistori, Ssi-Ruu! Out of the 4 most known reptilian races, force+saber users were really rare if not non-existent. Explain how each would benefit from having a new jedi or sith character! NONE of them should be deaf to the force! 13. Aside from Grievous and a few obscure entries, cybernetic prosthetics were really just showcased with humanoids! What is the reason behind this? Pitch new races that would benefit from cybernetics with storytelling! 14. Do some research work and define the somewhat exact BBY creation date of the 7 classical lightsaber forms and Jar'Kai! (I already have notes on Vaapad and Trispzest, because they are easy.) 15. Has there been any instances when irridonian and dathomiri zabrak mingled and/or interbred? Kao-Cen Darach BTW looks kinda suspicious! 16. Wookiees and Talz! Could they be effective allies? Perhaps a successful master apprentice relationship in a force sect? Which of them is superior? Alternatively: Who would win in a showdown without force, using only ranged guns, melee weapons, and unarmed combat? 17. Will Kylo Ren's crossguard saber design remain in the franchise as one of the more practically usable hilt designs or will it fade into obscurity? Is it exclusively only cool as a single blade, or will it ever look good with non-single wielding? 18. Vote for the the best pre-disney non-movie entry in the franchise/legends! Animation and cartoons, books, games, comics? 19. Chiss force users! Ex-humans from an ice planet! Why are/were they so rare? Pitch a certain type of chiss jedi and/or sith who could be successful! Are they hindered in understanding the obscure by their pragmatic mindset? And are they genetically compatible with humans? If sith interbred with humans, could chiss do the same with sith? 20. Have non-chiss force users ever been to the home planet of the chiss? 21. Since Corellian/Green Jedi have been established as having difficulties in producing as potent force active abilities as mainline jedi but having superior absorbtion potential, in what situations could a type of green jedi stand up to a jedi or a sith? 22. Choose the most atmospherically enjoyable and obscure planet that was a core foundation at some point for the Sith Empire, and a time period in which to view it in, and convince the others that your choice is better/cooler/spookier! 23. Tython and Ossus! Really important planets for both jedi and to a lesser extent sith too. Any information on why they are so lightly portrayed and any news or rumors if the will be ever resurfacing again? How did canon change? 24. What was the opinion of the true secluded Empire on Kaas/Ziost/Korriban/Nathema on the matter of some surfacing coreworld sith newcomers like Freedon Nadd, Exar Kun, or the Trayus Triumvirate? 25. How did Dromund system's Kaas go from what it is like portrayed in The Old Republic to how utterly devoured it appeared in Mysteries of the Sith? Although the TOR version still was awesome, why was the MotS one still way cooler? 26. Blue Green Yellow Orange Purple Red White - out of these 7 basic colors, everyone choose 3 favorites before the show! Present your choices in the show for the others! In the end, the most selected color wins! 27. Saberstaff and dual wielded sabers! In movies, games, and animation, which were the coolest most practical portrayals, and which were the most clumsy stupid portrayals in movement and handling? 28. Dark Troopers and Shadowtroopers! Should such distinctive lightsaber resistant black armor and force crystals return in the franchise again as some form of troops? Either blaster users or a lightsaber using character or troops? Where does Rogue One's new Death Trooper appear on the spectrum? 29. If either the Republic or the Empire would suddenly decide to create special force user commandos who use guns, how would 4 man teams look like by choosing 4-4 separate races for Republic and Empire? 30. The Anzati! How effective are they in an open lightsaber duel regarding tentacle feeding? 31. Any news on a potential Yoda spinoff movie? Could it potentially mention Vandar, Oteg, and Yaddle? 32. If you had to control the training of 3 jedi temple guards who already had a familiarity with all 7 classical forms, which 3 forms would you want each of them to focus on to work together in a group? Choose 1 form for each 1 guard! Each contestant can explain his version of composition! 33. Killiks or Geonosians? If you needed to choose one enforcer to provide help in a battle against Colicoids, who would you go to battle aside with? Everyone vote for one or the other! 34. TOR introduced killik joiners and Vector Hyllus who was a rare individual who was enabled to keep most of his personality as an intermediary ambassador. If a sith lord decided to trick the killiks by turning him into such a joiner with a personality, who would gain more? The sith gaining a hive of force potential, or the hive gaining the force through a joiner? Who could control the other? Would the darkside corrupt the whole hive? 35. Poetically describe the psychological effects of what a lone AT-ST enemy advance might cause to an observer! Write a small artistic paragraph and read it out loud in the show! 36. Pitch the perfect TV-Series about post-rakatan Korriban! 37. Who was the most effective Mandalore in history? 38. Gorc & Pic - Were they the most elaborate or sophisticated sithspawn ever created? 39. Which are the most overused species/races in all the franchise? Try to name all! Who are the biggest cliché aliens by now? (Excluding unimportant background characters.) 40. Any news on the at least 2 remaining inquisitors from Rebels? 1 Grand + 3 were killed in the show, 1 additional killed by Ahsoka, 1 probably by Maul (hence his staff), that leaves 2 out of a possible minimum total of 8! They were extremely good additions to the show!

Oh god what Jensarrai said will give me nightmares "I do not want to imagine Palpatine having orgies" O-o Not helped it hinted he did something with one of his Emperor's Hands once :0 (What I mean is Jen mention a Game of Throne characters who had lot of orgies and compared him to Palpatine which is why I imagine Palpatine doing that!)

I LOVED Darth Plagueis as a book and a character. He is one of my favorite Sith, and in my opinion one of the last true Sith Lords. Darth Vader was a Sith, but not really in the same way that Plagueis and Sidious was. After the death of Sidious in my opinion the true Sith were dead.

Great episode,i got a question for the council: Based on your Star Wars questionnaire jedi or sith,what would be your specialization and why? For Example, Jensaarai you said in your questionaire you would be a Sith,but what kind of Sith:A Sith Assassin,Sith Lord,Sith Marauder,or Sith inquisitor or any other sith class?

"chance is the one element missing from any periodic table": wonder if there's a literary reference in there? In Lolita, Humbert Humbert says of Charlotte Haze's death that man cannot commit the perfect murder - chance, however, can. Given Humbert Humbert's role in Lolita, that sets up some (aptly) dark resonances, given Sidious's part in birthing Anakin in the Force.

I feel like one of the best ways to get a basic understanding of a sith Lord is to think about which Lantern ring they would have. The red ring of rage, the yellow ring of fear or the orange ring of greed. And you can expand from their which ring do they want to have which do they not want to have.

As a Hockey player, I built my approaches around standing my ice with blade locks checks and shoves. I always hated it when players on my team or the others weaved coast to coast to avoid being hit, while I served as a 6ft defensive tank, not because I was wide immovable rock but because I was balanced and sure on my blades. As someone who understands quick blade (boot/foot) transition for grounding and stability, I would specialize in DJEM SO. A duelist fights on his legs and as Hurb Brooks said, the legs feed the wolf, and your strength comes from your footwork. As a number of in universe duelists prove, it isn't hard to overcome the negative connotations associated with Form V: the lack of mobility, the heavy handed focus, and often the single minded approach of the wielder. Kyle Katarn was a running Djem So practitioner, Ulic Qel Droma was fast, agile, and Exar Kun's equal (Niman poster boy.) Hmmmm with that will Kao Sen Darache be the new Niman poster boy in the rerelease of the seven forms Jensaarai1, you used Qui Gon instead of Yoda for the Ataru poster (I'm not complaining.)

I don't think that the Clone Wars Jedi were corrupt and weak from lack of an enemy. Quite the opposite. They were corrupt and weak and the Republic in the middle of an apparently Golden but really Gilded Age because they ended their internal battle. The Jedi have always fought amongst themselves over what it is to be Jedi. On the one side, you have Nomi Sunrider, Revan, Meetra Surik, Lord Hoth, Obi-Wan Kenobi and almost all of the New Jedi Order who want to do right and bring justice, to positively affirm life, living, goodness and making things better. On the other hand, you have Atris, Satele Shan, Yoda, the Dark Woman and more who define themselves by the word "No." No tolerating the Sith, no emotion, no self, no relationships, no fighting for what's right, and DEFINITELY no holding the Republic and Senate accountable for their actions. The only thing these Jedi affirm is being Republic stooges, except when citizens are facing genocide, oddly enough. From the Rusaan reformations to Order 66 the "No" Jedi had complete control over the order. Well, congratulations, "No" Jedi, you had the galaxy for a thousand years. Was it everything you hoped for? Oh, wait, no hoping either.

1:38:43 I learned that when I read Palpatine's backstory and I imagined it being more like how Anakin used the force for his podracing. Something Palpatine did without being aware of it and that it was merely an amplification of his already considerable charisma. The same way Anakin used the force as an extension of his existing piloting skills.

I am a Shii cho and ataru specialist. Basically I am a mix between mugen and gregor clegane. My 2 sparring buddies are either skinny and not very strong or slow and strong. I also have some skill in soresu. If I use duel blade I am all defense and just wait till they fuck up or burn out. Also just to inform I use duel blades if I it 2 on one.
