The soviet symbolism is really just for heritage purposes at this point and not allegiance to communism. Think former parts of the British Empire that still have big statues of Victoria and the union jack and crowns on their flag while at the same time not actually wanting to re join Britain Honestly good for them for it. Its a symbol of their past and might as well be used instead of trying to deny their past and shame it like some countries do.

Cool Goby Fish well Russia is basically fascist so they aren’t going to support communism (Putin has said as much many times, he also happens to be one of the world’s biggest kleptomaniacs so he definitely doesn’t support communism) and Russia under Putin has always portrayed the Russian Federation itself as a kind of reincarnation of the Russian Empire instead of the Soviet Union, but as they’ve become fascist since 2012 they needed a “glorious past” to base their revanchism on, and that glorious past happens to have been under Communism, meaning that since 2012 there has been a large amount of intertwining of Soviet symbology with Russian Empire symbology. In essence it’s taking ownership of everything the Soviet Union did in terms of state imagery (ie supporting “people’s republic” satellite states, having satellite flags based off of the mother country with one color changed, giant and numerous displays of said flags in public places, public and private display of leader of the mother country and satellite states, and most importantly of course usage of the hammer and sickle itself) as essentially Russian symbols and reminders of a time of Russian greatness, that happens to have been under Communism. So essentially the usage of the term “people’s republic”, usage of the Russian tricolor with one color changed, the usage of the Soviet-style crest by Luhansk, and usage of the the hammer-and-sickle by Transnistria (and Russia in its parades) all stand for one thing: Russian nationalism and revanchism.

Honestly Transnistria is the most interesting group of separatists. Aside from not being internationally recognized they literally have their own country already. Their own money government license plates tax system schools healthcare army police laws etc with no real control at all from Moldova. In my opinion Transnistria IS a country it literally functions fully as one internally

I was in Moldova in 2018 in my motorhome where i was staying a few days. I was only a few miles away from Transnistria and really wanted to visit the place but the weather had been so exhaustingly hot, i never managed it. Also country road infrastructure in Moldova makes driving extremely tiring due to the poor surface. The people are really friendly though and that part i will always remember.

I was in Pridnestrovie (Transnistria) earlier this year and was not surprised by it or found it bizarre, as I knew its history and wanted to go there to see a place that retains its historical past, which is linked to the former Soviet Union and is proud of it. It obviously uses the hammer and sickle on its flag for a reason and for me seeing Lenin busts and having streets named Karl Marx and Puskin, did not seem odd as that goes with the identity it retains. Also there are better hotels or book an apartment private rental, very cheap and most very comfortable. Go self guided, buses leave regularly from central Chisinau and run all day back and forward or drive across and back, it is a unique place so do it solo and enjoy it without the tourist hype and entourage.

Interesting, former USSR states are fascinating! And this seems to be a real step back in time! Think that restaurant was a Soviet retro place btw. And well those times were still a part of the history, so why should they take away a part of their history really? And huge part of the population would have grown up during those times, and might be nostalgic. I went to a Soviet style retro bar in Russia, for example, really cool as well, haha. Really like retro stuff in general. And of course I think that the people should be able to be independent or join another country if they want to. Anyway this feels like one of the most off the beaten path destination you could go to in Europe then, so would be interesting. Had heard of it before but had no idea it had border control and even its own currency and such. That's cool.

@btf Your last sentence may or may not be true, however you seem to be a bit confused here - the place in the video officially and de facto ceased to be Russia back in 1918. Again, regardless of whether or not your statement is juustified, Russia proper is absolutely irrelevant in this case, be it under socialism or capitalism.
@antoniudraculea4507
@antoniudraculea4507 4 жыл бұрын
'' think that the people should be able to be independent or join another country if they want to.'' It's just that this is not what happened here. The secession didn't take place because people wanted it, it took place because Russia invaded so Republic of Moldova wouldn't join NATO with Transnistria (important strategic point and great ammo stroages). The russians only represent 30% of the population there, while the other 70% is made up of romanians and ukrainians (both peoples hate Russia and the made-up separatist regions it created). But who knows how long that will last with the russians ethnically cleansing (denying non-russian education, church service, media, etc in order to forcefully russify everyone else) anyway. Either way, this had nothing to do with the people's will, it had 100% to do with Russia's reaction to whatever it doesn't like (which is violence).
@jontiswe
@jontiswe 4 жыл бұрын
@@antoniudraculea4507 Well, okay? Your name sounds Romanian or Moldovan so maybe you know better, unless you have an agenda. But in Ukraine it's definitely not the case. Crimeans want to be Russian, they already voted even if Western countries won't approve it, and when people have gone to Crimea and talked to locals most have also told that they want to be a part of Russia. No matter what I trust Russia a lot more than I trust our disgusting puppet governments here in the West and especially more than I trust the US government. Note I'm not talking about people, I trust people of any country, just not governments, and Western governments are the worst liars of all. I've been there. 1. You dont need a visa, so long as you can access either Ukraine or Moldova you should be fine. 2. Anyone who is already in Moldova can go. They don't have border points I think (because if they do, that would mean they're recognizing Transnistria as a country) but if you are coming from Ukraine you have I think 3 days to report to the Moldovan authorities of your arrival... Unless you just only stay in Transnistria and go back to Ukraine.

@@FlorianHWave Oh, that wasn't my opinion speaking, I believe that legitimately is the Moldovan government saying that. Funny enough, when I came back into Ukraine, the Ukrainian authorities had a Moldovan stamp ready (Pervomaisc I believe) along with my Ukraine entry stamp. I mean I would wager it would be a bit different with Ukraine considering it's Russia that they're facing, not an internationally unrecognized rogue region. I believe for the Donetsk People's Republic they do not have a border checkpoint... I might be wrong though, it has been a really long time since I last checked.

Border checkpoint in this definition being "You are leaving our country and entering a foreign land" checkpoint. If I recall correctly, if you're a foreigner you can't go to Crimea from Ukraine. And for Ukrainians a special permit is needed except for a few exceptions. So even there I think things are a little more intricate 🤔
@FlorianHWave
@FlorianHWave 4 жыл бұрын
@@ThePieMaster219 Ah, now I know what you mean. Yeah, that makes sense from the Moldovan government's point of view, even though it surprises me because if a part of a country wants to split off, it's usually seen as a safety threat, so setting up checkpoints may still make sense. Crimea is effectively Russian now, they even have a border fence to mainland Ukraine. You can access it now from Russia via the new bridge.

@@deodeo9856 And then the Bolsheviks gave you Russia's Donbass and Novorossiya, later parts of Romania and Poland, and finally Crimea. So in terms of land acquisitions Ukraine ended up the main beneficiary of the Soviet regime and its land-grabbing operations. In its current state Ukraine only emerged thanks to the Soviet occupation that you mentioned, and to this day continues to be the direct heir to the occupied territories that Lenin and Jughashvili, aka Stalin, incorporated in it.

In a way it's right to get rid of Lenin and Stalin since they caused a lot of pain to your country but I saw there are several monumets to people who fought the nazis that were destroyed or attacked. That's not cool.
