This is what happens when the script and production of a horror movie is actually taken care of and not just thrown together. An underrated gem.

Honestly this concept of military members having to kill people who are infected that don’t look infected to essentially save humanity is such a scary concept. It’s exactly what made the Last of Us intro scary for me.

That man with the pitchfork stabbing people in the school was actually the same principal who was sitting still at the empty baseball game. The hunters who were only hunting animals are now hunting humans. Rory's grieving family actually try to enact revenge and went as far as to squat around in the main character's home and wait. The poster for this movie had the words "Fear Thy Neighbor" for a reason.

Honestly, I feel like "Crazies" has the scariest zombies ever. They're not mutants like in Resident Evil, demons like in Evil Dead or rabid infected from The Rec, but just angry and heartless people with desire to kill. No scene of zombie eating somebody alive has made me nearly as nervous as guy slowly stabbing every tied up human

The original Romero version is about how the government & scientist deal with it from their perspective and this one, the remake is about the town/citizens. Im glad the remake isn't a 1:1 remake. They're great companion pieces

David has a great line for when he decides to go back for his wife and tells a fellow town member who argues against it "Don't ask me why I can't leave without my wife and I won't ask you why you can."

This movie was filmed in Iowa near where I live. At the time it was filmed, we all thought it would be some terrible B movie with a plotline along what is stated at the beginning of the video. No one films anything seriously in flyover country, so we didn't have high hopes. We were pleasantly surprised. The fact that the apocalypse starts in a small rural town really hit home. We always think of ourselves out here as insulated from all of the crap that goes on in the cities.

As somebody who works in a city council of a large American city, the mayor’s lack of response is very relevant. The thing about crisis response is that most city problems are slow motion, long term - until they aren’t. And a lot of bureaucrats are not well equipped to deal with these situations, especially when re-election is on their mind.

The lead actress is Radha Mitchell. She's Australian and is one of the most underrated horror scream queens ever: "Pitch Black", "Phone Booth", "Silent Hill", "Rogue", "The Darkness" at first, you take her for the pretty, generic blonde but she brings an intensity to everything she's done.

That “oh brother, this guy stinks!” will always get a good hearty laugh out of me 😂

I really like that FINALLY army is not shown as an incompetent bunch, they see the infected - they shoot them, end of story, no asking around, no teary eyes, you got one job. Also i probably gonna watch this, seems like developers ACTUALLY tried to write an interesting story.

The one thing I really love about this movie is that they don't paint any group as some one-dimensional trope. Like in any other movie every military member in the movie would just be some faceless robot that just kills everyone for no reason. This one showed that they were actually people and that they don't actually want to be doing this but thought they were preventing an outbreak, so to save more people basically. So they can be the antagonists without actually being bad, which is a fine balance that a lot of other movies, especially in this genre, do not get right.

This movie has one of the most ruthless military can think of in the zombie apocalypse. In zombie movies or shows the military is shown to either help or ignore the main characters and the communities but here they aren't taking chances with the virus being airborne, as shown with the evacuated people, Scotty and his mom, and the car the helicopter saw.

This movie has been in my top 10 horror movies since I was a kid. It’s so tense and dark. One of the only reboots that out does the original.

This movie is quite good and I really recomend the comicbook tie-ins Image published before the premiere. Each issue is from the point of view of one of the crazies so you get more insight into how the virus works. The desease isn't like the typical zombie virus that kills all the higher functions of the brain or the viruses on _Blackgas, Crossed,_ and _The Sadness_ that shut-down all the impulse control instincts of a person turning them into an increasingly deraged psycho, the virus of _The Crazies_ comicbook is scarier because it starts by just intensifying any mental or emotional problem the infected already has: the guy in the baseball field had a past histoy of paranoia and allucinations so they cameback in full force, he was seeing the people on the game as shadow creatures and things like that; meanwhile the coroner was talking to his dead mother about how he would show her that he could become a doctor and that's why he started doing horrifying operations on random people; and even the hunters have some nuance because the town was descending into chaos and madness when their started to show syntoms so a lot of their early acts of violence where justifyed to the point that the reader could wonder if the hunters were really infected or just suffering from a regular mental breakdown (untill you see the film, in their last scenes those guys were clearly sick)... the comics are an awesome short reading

People sleep on Russell, loved how despite the illusion of safety he went back into hell and even when struggling with a extremely violent virus he sacrificed himself for his friends

The Last of Us intro owes a lot of credit to this movie

The main actor, the setting, the fast start. Dude it’s soooooo good.

This has been one of my favorite apocalypse stories for a while and it's awesome to finally see someone covering it. I thought the scene where they capture the soldier was great. It turned what had previously been a bunch of masked goons into a characters with some level of depth. Seeing the soldier just being some scared kid from the south made it feel all the more real.

This, I Am Legend, and The Mist are the only movies I know that fully immerse me into it. Nothing exists while its playing.

I know how much we complained about the over saturation of zombie movies during this era, but I kinda miss it. Also kinda reminds me of the taiwanese zombie movie called the sadness. It has a similar zombie type with how they're essentially crazy people (insert sound effect). I must warn you though, its VERY dark and gory, not for the faint of heart, especially if you're sensitive to SA topics and gore.

The way this movie was in a small rural town reminded me a lot of Project Zomboid since its set in rural Kentucky and started in a small town and later the whole surrounding county (and later Louisville) So I got a lot of Zomboid vibes from this movie, great video!

My dad was an extra in The Crazies which was filmed in Georgia near where we're from. He was one of the soldiers in full MOP gear when they first get to the school and are attempting to separate the infected from the healthy. Good movie for sure.

I watched this movie a few years back, knowing it was a remake. Both movies honestly hold up really well, but this version does a fantastic job. The four main characters are what make the movie, and their dynamic. I think it's time for a rewatch.

A move where a quote left huge impression on me for whatever reason. "Don't ask me why I can't leave without my wife and I won't ask you why you can." I don't know why I remember it after all these years. It didn't change my life or anything, but it definitely left an impression.

An interesting little fact is that the infected woman on the bike is portrayed by Lynn Lowry. She played the character “Kathy” in the original 1973 movie.

Watched this a ton as a kid/teen. Everyone dismissed it as "bad" for whatever reason...I always loved it though, glad to see it get some critical analysis

I’m 4 minutes in, and I love the sound effects. The dramatic brass instrument every time you say “crazy.” The gun cocking when you transition from summary to explanation/interpretation. 10/10 content.

I live in Cedar Rapids. In the theatre the people went ballistic when they mentioned our cities name like 3 times LOL

This movie is definitely in the re-watchable category. Anytime I see it or it’s on TV I watch it. I think it’s a great flick. Very underrated. I would’ve liked to have seen a sequel

For anyone who likes this sort of theme as far as infected that still retain skills I’d recommend the retreat series by Craig Dilouis and Stephen knight. It has a similar premise and follows a us army unit that is trying to fight and survive through the us while most of the population is infected with a virus that turns them into bloodthirsty sadistic killers who laugh uncontrollably. It’s a dark story and very graphic with the details but it’s also really intense following this unit that is trying to keep the wheels on the bus while they change goals after each one is shown to be already gone when they reach it.

One of the things I found the most interesting was how the government guy clarified that not only was this hole mess an accident, the virus was being transported to an incinerator in Texas, but just how unapologetic he is. The guy says to the sherif 'look, we lost a plane what do you want me to say?' The way he trests this like a small chemical leak rather than the destruction of an entire community is harrowing.

Very underrated movie. Very realistic in how the government and civilians would act.

This is the first movie you’re covering I have no knowledge on so I bought the movie on prime and watched it, and boy was it a fun movie and really makes you wonder could this happen.

I never realized how underrated this movie is tho I saw it in theatres, it really is unique in its storyline and storytelling....and of course, the Olyphant effect

The Crazies and The Sadness are probably two of the closest things we can get to a live action adaptation of a Crossed comic. A mystery virus that turns people into downright psychopaths, they're the most terrifying kind of ''zombie'' as a concept and it's heavily under utilised in movies.

The “Scotty” scene is lowkey one of my personal “Scariest Scenes Ever” due to the simple callousness and efficiency of it.

this movie is very underrated... I did enjoy it when first watched it some time ago, (more than once even) wanted to studied the "zombies" movements and behavior patterns and Russell's whole character, from start to finish was was best, my favorite character and you really felt for him- when he realizes he's infected but asked if he could still walk with them while he's still "him" with the sorrow and regret in his expression... and how he sacrifices himself to distract the military personal so the other two could escape.

Yeah I have nothing against living in a small town at all I think living in a small town sounds incredibly peaceful but at the same time I'm not comfortable with the idea of your neighbors potentially knowing your business and plus like you said if something like this ever did happen then the rest of the world would have no idea and you and everyone you know is more times than not incredibly fucked

I really liked this movie!! It’s super unique to see a small town devolve into absolute chaos. People are mistaken that small towns are safe from scenarios like this. The fact they’re so isolated from the rest of the population is what makes it scarier. I absolutely could see our government just wiping out a small town for the “greater good”

I feel like a twist where somehow the main group were all infected and everyone they killed were just normal people trying to survive would be cool.

This movie honestly is a tamer depiction of how people who've turned crazy will act. This movie reminded me of a comic series I've read two years ago, I think it was called Crossed, where the crazy people there aren't just killers they do _anything_ that's depraved onto others or to themselves. The infection works when the infected people infect others with their bodily fluids (saliva, blood, piss, ect.). They are smart enough to use that knowledge to coat their weapons - including bullets - with it to infect people. They engage in torture, not just physical but also mental before they kill their prey, and will use them to also lure more people to be slaughtered. The comics are, obviously, very graphic, so much so that even the people who are into gore in movies and shows will understand why this series _shouldn't_ and _neither will be_ adapted.

Watched this movie on TV around 2012 or so. Wasn't expecting much and was blown away with how good it was! Wish they would make more of this quality or a sequel.

This movie is so underrated and unique, I watched it as a kid and its one of my favorite "zombie" apocalypse films ever.

Man this is a blast from the past. I saw this movie in theaters when it first came out and while I liked it at the time, I completely forgot about it in the years since. The pitchfork scene was properly terrifying, and the whole movie was such a well done "beginning of the apocalypse" story.

This is the first horror movie I ever saw (on a first date in ninth grade) and it scared the absolute shit out of me. I had no appreciation for horror at the time so I loved watching this and reevaluating!

I started watching you because of the twd episode analysis vids and they are all very interesting btw but now I watch pretty much everything you upload your story telling and analysis on movies and tv series are just so interesting to me and you just keep me wanting more also im excited for the twd S4 retrospective. Saw this one in theaters with my x. I'm not a fan of scary movies. But this one stuck with me. I still give it a watch now and again. Truly unsettling.

This is one of my favorite "scary" movies. It's super underrated.

6:25 I lived in a small town about this size in 2020, when our little sickness kicked off. I know it's not the same at all, but it _kiiiiinda_ is? Anyway, it took 2 years for any cases to actually get to our town due to the lockdowns and restrictions. I had daydreams during the inital stages that this was gonna flip to something much worse (I'm sure everyone did at least once!) and thought about what would happen to the tiny country town if it was, say, zombies. If it started there, it would be hard to contain, honestly. People just walk into each other's houses if they know them. People can't be missing for more than a day or two before people start actively looking around, and everyone gathers at a select few places to mingle. If it started in the big city, though? *Nothing!* I bet nothing. Country towns, especially here in Australia, would be relatively fine. Way too much time to prepare for a place like that to fall. Way too many resources there to fail, imo. Cities are death traps, though. They could work for a short time, but the numbers of Zs would quickly outweigh resources.

The mayor refusing to shut off the water reminds me of when the mayor of Amity Island refused to close the beaches in Jaws.

That sound effect after crazy is so dramatic and good lmaooo. Also splinter is another one that is one of my favorites like these.

Here’s a show recommendation “between” staring Jeanette McCurdy it’s about a small town isolated after a virus thing that kills al the adults it’s a bit like lord of the flies and has two seasons and it’s a pretty good show worth checking out for sure. (Also I think I’ll check out this films seems like one I’d enjoy)

I LOVE this movie. And I'm not a horror movie guy. Highly underrated. Shows what happens when you don't try to he something you're not and just keep it small and focus on quality.

Interesting take. Since the ending can go in almost any direction, it could be an unofficial part of the Cloverfield series, just like 10 Cloverfield Lane. However, the big reveal is that the alien invasion caused the fungus infection that eventually caused the spread of the infected in The Last of Us. Talk about a multiverse crossover!

I remember watching this in the theatre and not having much hope, but it was surprisingly good. I especially loved that the virus didn't just turn people into rage zombies, but instead seemed to escalate their paranoia and temper while lowering their empathy to zero.

Highly underrated film, genuine scares.

Food for thought here… So I’m from Iowa and I’m proud to say I know of a town that hovers around the 1000 people mark (Milo Iowa) which is SE Warren county if you’re interested, and I’ve considered what may happen if the “crazies event” happened to my wife’s home town. It’s a great town but it’s a 4 way town meaning you got 4 ways in and 4 ways out. Nearest military large presence would probably be Camp Dodge in Johnston, and supported from my old unit in Knoxville Iowa and Oskaloosa (3654, 3655 maintenance units) Barricades on N E S W directions with Indianola being the main town about 10-15 minutes North and West In Milo I’ll say it’s a gun ratio of maybe 3 guns to 1 person. With plenty of hunters and farmers (gun enthusiasts) It’s an agricultural town for sure with a local style restaurant, 1 gas station, a public library, grade school, and a few churches… and of course one mechanic shed. Right off the bat I’d say the churches would be redemption centers for gathering people and the grade school would probably be the “prison” since the HS is in Lacona. Heavy military presence could be established in 24 hours and an effective “wall” could encircle the town pretty quick. I’d be curious to see what the results of the town being hit with some like this would be but the feed water from the town is off of the Des Moines pipes. So…. Curious!!!

always got a nice survival horror game vibe from this movie. the build up and everything is very resident evil-like, its awesome. funnily enough the original is a george romero film.

This movie is severely underrated. I’m a veteran as are half my friends. We all knew that we or anyone would never shoot other Americans for any reason. However the movie knows this so gets soldiers from different states to make it plausible. The movie itself is fantastic. If you haven’t watched it watch it. One of the best zombie movies
