Cat 5 salute? Hands off handlebars? Too funny... I ride with no hands say recreationally on trails but when passing people make it my purpose to have hands on bars ever since watching these vids it's almost just courtesy cuz u nvr know... I mean I can ride no hands overs gutters to driveways up or down hills I'm very fluent at it but even still just like courtesy so this is so funny lol cat 5 salute LOL

LoL... it's tough when you have a lot of guts from MTB racing but no knowledge of road/crit/team racing. Plus, you can't just waltz into the cat 2/3 races without running the gauntlet of the 4/5 noobs. I'm in the same boat as Jura. I finished 10th in the NUE series (not because I'm insane fast lol) last year but there's no way in hell I"m racing a cat 4/5 crit. Not worth getting wadded up by some dude with a rear wheel about to fly off or a cat5 salute.

I remember this race! Man, if cat 5 could be a picture it would be this field. The crashes, the tactics, the gear, the drafting... In Colorado at least, there's a lot of sandbagging in the cat 4's. Why did that guy lap the field? Oh, he's a pro triathlete! This was stage 3 of the Project Echelon race, so it was even more polarized than normal. The guys who could recover from the road race and TT the day before were head and shoulders above the people who didn't have 2 consecutive race days in their legs (which is a lot of people in 4/5) and they were already the strong ones anyway. This field was also a bit of a mess lol

It's hard to critisize him after they got 1st and 2nd! I guess it shows they were stronger than the other riders, but just weren't efficient to split the field earlier.

I disagree that chasing your teammate down at 3:30 was a bad move. His rider was 1 of 6 in that break. It's too many, either get up there to help out or shut it down, which he did.

waste watts to shut it down?? why not just rest and let it shut itself down?

@@williambob111 Good question. There's no guarantee the break would fall apart and you don't want your rider taking chances as 1 of 6. Therefore, as the teammate in the field, there's only a short window of time to decide whether you're going to let that break go up the road, hitch a ride to bridge up, chase it down, etc. Better to not leave it to chance and just bridge up or shut it down. If your goal as a team is a break, better to attack the field one hundred times until you get the break you want then just have hopes your guy will win in a large break.

Honestly, there were a lot of other moments in this video where the riders was inefficient and wasting watts. You want to save them for the moments where you need them, this was one of those moments.
