The abstract world of philosophy is interesting. From stoicism, to nihilism, to absurdism, there are many different schools of thought trying to teach us how to think, act, and tell right from wrong. But have you ever felt that philosophy is sometimes a bit too elaborate? Too structural? Since written records began, philosophers have produced mountains of text, but how much of it really connects with us? Some of it does, definitely. Descartes’ “I think therefore I am” is one of the most beautiful realizations you can have. It is so concise yet so beautifully self-evident. On the other hand, how many of us spend our days thinking about the form of a table or its corresponding “table-hood” like Plato? How many of us use Parmenides' argument against motion in our daily lives?

There's a famous historical anecdote about the encounter between the Greek philosopher Diogenes and Emperor Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC. When mighty Alexander asked if there was anything he could do for Diogenes, the philosopher famously replied, "Yes, stand out of my sunlight." This encounter symbolizes the contrast between worldly power and the philosophical pursuit of simplicity and truth. While the historical accuracy of the anecdote may be debated, it remains a compelling example of the interaction between philosophy and political authority in antiquity.

Video & I've always liked the quality of ur videos and the way u narrate.I was always into Space & Sci-fi stuff & ur videos made them even more interesting for me. Now the reason I wanted to thank u was because ur videos also changed how I look at the world around me especially "Nothing really matters" and ur videos on Stoicism. I also dropped out of college & I'm in a film school now. I've never met u in real life...but uh...I think u literally changed my life....So I just wanted to say thanks. ❤ from India

@thedude5740
@thedude5740 8 ай бұрын
If one sees reality in a wholesome perspective, it is the truth. However, in the whole are opposing forces. Both forces must exist for the whole to be. It seems that most minds cannot accept, the good comes with the bad and spend their life attempting to avoid one side or the other. Duality is a truth but not absolute truth, if that makes sense.

Diogenes was a homeless vagrant that people call philosopher. I find it very odd that people within the last 10 years have found interest in him when previously he was relatively unknown.
@thedude5740
@thedude5740 8 ай бұрын
The Internet is providing free education. As information spreads and minds expand, interests in perspectives arise. Diogenes clearly had a love for wisdom. Philo Sophia! If one spends their life attempting to comprehend the mind, wouldn't that make them a philosopher? One that can create a life of wealth from what is of little value to others, holds the philosopher's stone... Did diogenes not accomplish what he considered to be wealth? He never had to pay for anything but the world provided sustenance...

@@thedude5740 Nonsense. Worms eat what's thrown on the ground. That is their purpose and nothing more. Their waste is nutrients for plant life. I knew this as a small child. A man learns of this and brings this into his philosophy? That is not wisdom. That is someone ignorant of nature.

The main character syndrome is quite ignorant IMO. Humanity has been fed a lie. The minds of the masses see themselves as powerless. Everyone is the fulcrum of the universe of which they experience. No perspectives are identical, there is always a variation. Even people others consider to be a main character, will be someone else's side quest...
