What I also learned from philosophy is that it's better to give a silent reply than an angry reply. Live in the present moment is better than remembering the negative past or expecting a negative future that leads to anxiety. No anxiety in the moment. Since life is suffering, it's best to help others to reduce the suffering and increase happiness.

Enjoying life as a thinker is quite hard. I am a absolute freak, who over analise's everything. One of my best friends, doesn't. Ignorance is bliss, they told me. But i would be bored of life pretty quick if that was the case. I would fill the void with pointless addictions, addictions, that dont even get you high. I have mixed feelings about it. I am the only dude on a party, who is not going ham on music because i am busy analising people, the area, surroundings, the atmosphere. It never ends. I dont let go. I wish to be freeër, with the same thinking capabilities. Less affected by life. More stoic, but also capable of enjoying being normal. But i cant. Its not my nature to be free from thought, worry, or planning, and without the issue's, i wouldnt be relying on my thinking capabilities. My friends where so amazed when i told them i dont listen to music when i take a walk. I told them i am busy thinking. I dont need the music, because my mind keeps me entertaint. Possibilities are endless, and its quite fun to be thinking. Its never quiet in my head. Its pretty useless information but i am sure there must be more people like me, who are,, freaks XD

Fantastic summary of the great questions in philosophy! Epistemology and metaphysics are extremely fascinating! I really dig your videos, even though they always make me uneasy. They always remind me of that whole world of thought that you so accurately explained and the reason you say we try to distract ourselves from it. I sometimes feel like trying to find the perfect quote or word of wisdom to live by, the prime sophi, so to speak. But it always changes. Changes with my age. Death really is the prime motivator haha. I've struggled with suicidal thoughts and depression, as seemingly an increasing number of people have, and come to the conclusion that life is what you make it, at least in theory. Practice is often more difficult. But real happiness is making the best of your, and others', time alive; of this there is no doubt in my mind. But whether what is best is subjective or objective, I do not know, it depends and changes constantly I suppose. But to ponder the big questions of existentialism and the self, it makes my time here better, knowing there are such questions to ask. Thanks for the great content mate. Splendid job, I hope you keep it up! PS: I'm unsure if it was intentional, but calling out my inability to get out of bed in the morning by making me contemplate death was harsh, but necessary, however the background video of the man stretching his arms gave me some relief when you immediately used the clip again to show that sore muscles and stress is a legit reason to stay in bed haha.

I passed a billboard today "you were created to worship God" so...to that person who paid for that our species was only created to fulfill another beings ego. The absurdity in that statement stunned me. I am not Christian anymore but i was and I never even when i believed felt that the idea of God was.. Just to worship..

I heard a question asked that sort of asked why we were made in HIS image and given free will but not allowed to eat from the tree of knowledge. The answer given was something to the effect that HE made us in his image bc that is a perfect image according to HIM. And the reason we were given free will boils down to God wanting a companionship with someone. See HE created the angels but they were created to be there by his side, to serve. Yet we can choose to try and join him in heaven. A true companion that didn't have to be with him but chose to be with him. And if we were to eat from the tree of knowledge it would negate the free will because we would see the plan and the truth. And that is not the plan. I'm not religious but I found this satisfying
@alyssumn3884
@alyssumn3884 7 ай бұрын
@@stephenrosenthal5252 to me there is nothing satisfying in that. It's the same trend as the other thing. Do we have free will or not? We do in their eyes but our free will comes without true guidance in each generation. So in this world blind obedience and faith are actually very detrimental. One would think a God who gave free will would know that and not judge. One would think that an all knowing being would need to revise with the world changes. I get what you are saying but both the example I gave and the one you did rely on faith. I have most of the Bible memorized. Used to paint scriptures on my wall. We aren't living the scriptures I painted and we never will. There is a new god here and it isn't spiritual. So those billboards are horrid.

I've been reading Seneca and honestly he made me understand that happiness is a made up concept, humans tend to be happy by the things which they create , they misunderstand pleasure with happiness, happiness is a dangerous thing to seek for it's like an addiction you will do anything to get the dose of your happiness by hurting people, selling your soul , change yourself for worst as long as you get the dose of happiness, which makes sense if we take a look at our generation, we need to be contented with what nature gives us and have a purpose in life a purpose where agrees with the nature and not a purpose where it will ruin you or hurting others for the sake of the bad purpose.

Philosophy is great, but it stumbles on semantics more than it should. Philosophy also somewhat lacks awareness of the semantics that govern its problems and answers. Some philosophers have taken note of this and their work is recognized, but it hasn't cleared the playing field of these linguistic issues that ultimately confuse more than clarify.

Being a philosopher is depressive. Because you know more, not only are you lonely, you are also outcasted. But moreso, you are overly critical of your own mind, as one tends to argue for both sides or all sides, not quite satisfied with the right answer but the ongoing and difficult analysis of what constitutes an answer and what makes it right.

The tittle of the video is pure genius, and it applies to everything that it contains... For example, obviously a oversimplification, your first example.... we all die, some might use that to seize the day, other might be overwhelmed and actually feel comfort, catharsis in that and actually not seize the day, you know since the "outcome" is always the same, why bother ! Just saying, I'm not in either category, didn't read enough philosophy.... I'm mostly ignorant to all great questions (and accepted answers), anyways what I'm trying to say, in a over complicated way, is ...THANK YOU ! Thanks for this, and for all that you pursuit and decide to share ! To me, that, your personal opinion, frankess, sincerity... vulnerability makes all these videos...personal .... worth watching. Evidently you don't need my "validation" or unsolicited comment etc, and thats a given, only know I know and for medium relevance I truly "like".

My take on this video is that learning philosophy is scary, you learn about the brain, life, gods, etc.... At some point once you know so much you began to become isolated in a way. Not physically but mentally, and the overwhelming life is more than you think. Its true when people say intelligent people are never the happiest people. I have never seen a picture of a philosopher seeming happy.

The only true Problem at all is the capability of us to error and be ignorant. Not only about the Things itself, but also about our judgment of our judgment of them, meaning, that we dont know, that we dont know, which is the Nature of Error and Ignorance. The only way to know, that we know Something is to seek out, If we can name Binding reasons, which is only possible by rigorous logical Analysis. For example, Noone can say to know what is good, If they cannot say, what the principle of goodness is and what the ultimate Purpouse is, e.g Happiness, for the one depends on the other. Therefore one must conclude, that the only key to Happiness itself is Philosophy, leading to wisdom and virtue. Therefore, If Happiness is the only purpouse in life, the only meaningfull Life is the one, that Put enough effort into Philosophy.

A book of ancient philosophy that I recommend is the book of Ecclesiastes, which puts forward the notion that all of man's efforts are futile and in vain. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher; “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” ... Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, For my heart rejoiced in all my labor; And this was my reward from all my labor. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

6:39 Why does it have to be like that? What is wrong with wanting to preserve, cherish, putting in work to maintain the connections that we love. Why am I weaker for clinging on to the things I love than letting it go.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to perserve and cherish those connections you love, but ultimately nothing can last forever and everything that is will eventually be what was

What is it to mean, that you learned Something, If Not, that you came to know it? But If so, i must warn you, that you May be trapped in Illusion, for If you think for example, that the existentialist Paradigm understood as giving meaning by of oneself for oneself is true. For it must be wrong, If understood in this concise mannor, for a meaning givin to oneself is as arbitrary as deciding by oneself what is true and good etc. These Things cannot be givin, neither by a god, nor by oneself. They are to be Discovered.
