I have walked my course in reverse & it’s helped a little. Also rolled a ball on each green from 4 different points to assess breaks. In the evening when safe, of course. Thanks Al.

Jack Nicklaus used to walk courses backwards 18th-1st to figure out landing zones, lay ups, bail outs etc and said it was amazing what you saw and found seeing the course in the opposite direction that you would normally miss!

Thank you Al really enjoyed it. Have got back into golf seriously and working on getting back to single figures. Usually good at conservative but really struggling with two par fives on front 9 at my course. One is a dog leg where have to pay four iron off tee (haven’t got the firepower yet to carry the corner like I did when I was 21), the other is 530 yards but plays all uphill and invariably into wind so nearer 600 in my eyes. Both wreck my card it seems - literally gonna play as par 6 I think and for the time being concede those two shots to the course. Be really interested to see you play them

Cheers Ken! They sound like tough holes for anyone! If you’ve got the distance to get there or close in 3 then it’s definitely still on for par. 3 solid 220 ish shots or play it as a 6 as you said

I have never seen anyone hug poison oak before, hope that worked out. I was taught to play it backwards and manage the course in 1983. Not many do it.

Avoid being short sided at all cost. At the tour level being short sided results in getting up and down only 10% of the time for the best players in the world. Probably a much lower rate for everyone else. Almost all greens are tilted back to front. With that in mind being on the right side of the pin should give you a right to left putt and conversely on the left side of the green. That is a generalized statement. Obviously local knowledge and practice rounds would provide the most accurate information. Know your minimum cover numbers. Even if you can't regularly hit accurate distances. Having a number in mind narrows your focus to the target and helps you block out the noise of everything else going on. If you have the ability to shape shots, having a shot shape in mind helps to narrow your focus. In short having a plan is better than no plan. Aim small miss small.
