It's only trespassing after you've been asked to leave. There is something called an implied right of access which means if you've got a reason to be there like delivering a package and you haven't been told not to go there then you have the right to go onto their property in order to do that job.

"You should have a sign that says 'do not pet' clearer." This past Halloween season, as a scare actor, there was an "employees only" door mere feet from me. Saw a few ignorant customers look at the door, open it, then walk away as I yelled at them to close it. I told them to their face they "MUST BE ILLITERATE!" if they couldn't read the sign. That lady must need new glasses if she can't read the dog's vest saying "Service Animal in Training."

Working at an airport, I learned that about 90% of the population is selectively illiterate. Wall sized signs telling people which items are not allowed to fly, and they still fight you over not being able to bring a gallon of liquid in their carry-on. Also had people come into the employee lounge despite the giant "EMPLOYEES ONLY" sign on the door.

I have a manager at the fast-food place I work and she was yelled at by a customer because she told his wife that she couldn't walk onto the red floor, which is our kitchen. You wouldn't believe the amount of times people have just walked into the kitchen because they wanted something. Once someone walked through our back door because they wanted a refill and our lobby was locked.

My Karen experience was while working at the airport. So the area I worked at is similar to TSA, but with food products. It's a USDA branch. So the passengers are making the line, as usual, and I'm going down the line telling people to declare any food item for inspection. This woman comes in, bypasses the entire line and starts putting her luggage into the conveyor belt without permission. So I yell out to my coworker who is at the x ray screen to stop the belt because this woman had cut in line and hadn't declared her luggage yet. She starts saying that I was lying, she had been there the whole time (the other passengers stared at her like "B*tch please?"), and didn't want to declare her luggage (which is a rule at the airport. They will literally not let you fly unless you declare any food items you have, as some aren't allowed to fly). She wouldn't move, so the security guard, this huge dude with tattoos and muscles, told her to get in line before he escorted her out. She decided to miss her flight and said she wasn't going to travel through our airport again. One of the passengers who were in line and witnessed the whole thing asked us if this was something that happened all the time, and she looked so sad when we told her that unfortunately it is commonplace. We have had people try and assault us just because we confiscated a bug infested fruit (obviously not allowed because of said bugs). A grown ass man nearly hit me once because federal law prohibits raw pork meat inside the carry-on luggage. For context, I'm female, weight 115 pounds and am only 5'0" tall. And this dude wanted to punch me in the face for not letting him carry raw unfrozen pork meat with him onto the plane.

I’ve been a service dog handler for about three years now and the stories that I have are literally insane!! I was told before got my service dog that I would see the most disrespectful people and be put in the weirdest situations and that has been beyond true!! I’ve had people tell their child having a tantrum to “go pet the puppy” I’ve had multiple people walk past us and bark at her. I’ve had people call her under the table at a restaurant and try and feed her for the entire duration of my families meals. And on and on and on and on.

When I was a kid and I saw a service dog for the first time I didn’t know the difference I saw a dog I wanted to pet it but my parents had the sense to have a 5 MINUTE conversation with me about why I couldn’t.
@cecilia_henry
@cecilia_henry Жыл бұрын
Its so rude when people do that. And tbh you should always ask first if it is okay to pet someone elses dog/feed them/play with them. Don't know why many parents fail at conveying this. Also a dog could be traumatized and go off when people just hunch over them and pet them and yeah, a dog shouldn't bite someone but the dog often gets blamed even though it is not all his fault.

@@cecilia_henry yeah it is sooo rude I usually don't pet dogs like that I usually asked even as a kid I asked if I could but also I have never tried to feed someone else dog even if they are close family and they say it is ok I still hesitate because it isn't my pet and I'm not sure if I could feed them some things. Also yeah dogs get blamed for things that isn't THEIR fault it is very annoying and parents need to teach children manners.

Idc if my son throws a fit (he hasn’t), we never pet a dog without permission!!! I explained recently why we couldn’t even ask to pet the dog, because he was working. It’s surprising how much kids can understand if you actually explain. But even if they don’t understand, keep them away from the working dog!

The "Go pet the puppy" thing is a massive pet peeve of mine, and not just for service dogs. The fact that some parents think that EVERY dog is free for their kids to run up to and pet is mindblowing. It could be a service dog, or a rescue that doesn't like strangers, or just a nervous dog that snaps when people run up on it. Telling their kids to go and pet a strange dog without permission is a good way to get their kid bitten, which they'd then of course blame the dog for. Some people...

Have had three memorable Karen experiences before (I'll make them short): 1. Lady in a mall (I was alone on lunch between college classes and had two hours to kill) refused to believe I wasn't a child (I was and am 4'10"). She pulled me into a store while I tried to get her to let go and a security guard (He always checked on me when I went to the mall for lunch and he knew my age) came up and pretended I was his child. She argued with him over it, I had a panic-attack (PTSD and a list of issues and she was hitting ALL my triggers), and I don't remember it but I apparently kept calling the security guard by the nickname me and my friends referred to him as "Papa Joe" (His name was actually Joseph and he was an avid lover of pizza... He'd bring us some when he saw us hanging out at the mall sometimes). Good enough for her apparently and she left while he brought me to the game store (Not videogames but a store for card games and D&D stuff, and a friend of mine worked there). He made sure I was ok and my friend took care of me; he later checked on me again and told me what happened after I "Blanked Out" (He's seen me in that state before unfortunately, but it was due to storms those times, this was the first caused by a person). 2. I run storytime for children at my hometown's library and ONE day a new patron brought her kids in and had them play REALLY loud before storytime (She was asked by my coworker to please be mindful of the library and stuff; I was in the "craft closet" as we call the storage room, getting things ready for storytime). Well storytime came around and I gathered the kids as I always did and took my place to read... It was a disaster. She shoved her kids to the front (WAY too close, but I just let it go), and her kids were SO disruptive the entire time I tried to read. Because of her kids eventually loudly stating how bored they were and me trying to still read (Because the other kids were LOVING this book), one of them ripped the book out of my hand and threw it aside before trying to have me read a book they chose (I hold the book loosely as to turn pages easier). I got up and picked my book back up and only said "It's not nice to take things away from others" and "We need to be gentle when reading books"... Big mistake. Kid started having a tantrum and, again, I'm 4'10"... Mother was 5'7". She "tried to be nice" and said something like (Can't remember exactly) "The nice girl will read your book since she lost her place sweetie"... I don't correct people about my gender, especially around kids, so I let that go, but I whipped my book back to my page and responded that "We are reading [BOOK NAME] today before we get to today's surprise". She started yelling. The SECOND she began yelling, the other parents told the kids to go into the main room and then they confronted her, one of the grandparents snuck me out in the chaos. I had to calm down but read the rest of the book in the teen area, but the feeling was ruined for the kids and me. Woman took her kids and told my coworker (She thought was my boss I guess) that "Children shouldn't be running storytime!" she then found out that I was older than her by two years and also... My coworker is under me. I'm higher ranking than most of my coworkers except two. She left in a huff and I struggled to get the surprise for the kids (I got them special stickers for our book). Parents and grandparents saved the day by helping with the stickers and the craft we were doing and one of my usual kids who had severe anxiety originally (Kid came a long way over the year by then) brought a book I read the previous week and asked if I could read it. I felt better reading that second book to the kids, because it's a highly interactive story that gets everyone moving, including me. Never had that parent or her kids since and it built a strong reputation with my "regulars" and their parents. I've since then handled way worse parents by having a coworker deal with them while I calmly take the children to the next room to read. (The book that woman's kid tried to make me read was a Warriors book, which wasn't appropriate for half those kids.) 3. My new boss IS a Karen. They're non-binary and try way too hard to be friends with me and another (Both that coworker and I are Genderfluid), and they nitpick everything. Even storytime for the kids has changed for the worse. It either goes their way, everything is everyone BUT their fault (They have literally blamed a coworker for theft with NO proof, here THEY just shelved the book in the wrong place and blamed the coworker), they have ignored and even issued arguments with patrons and coworkers alike. And this is just on a GOOD day, you don't wanna know a bad day, because a bad day is where they either have an especially short temper or they come to us assistants and talk about their PTSD in detail... They've even come to me about it even when I told them to stop talking about it. They pressured me so badly because they wanted a reason I was so "insubordinant" (We all swear they let power go to their head). I wound up breaking down about my abuse an they got quiet and walked off, but now try to "help me" because we're "going through the same thing"; no we're not, because they were punched by a friend ONCE and it is nothing close to the years I can never get back. (I won't give details because I have severe issues with it, but it was for fifteen years of my life and it was SA along with what I can describe as only sociopath torture. The details are too much and I kind of vented here because of my boss, as I was typing, sending me an email for their therapist... I'm beyond upset and pissed over that.) UPDATE: Boss was fired for reasons I will NOT talk about and now, by popular vote from my coworkers (All of them actually) I am now the head Librarian. First meetings were intense, but I've gained a lot of confidence.

I had a situation before where my sister and I were shopping and some lady came up, just like that last one, and tried to take our nearly entirely stuffed cart with our purses at the bottom for herself. My sister was tugging at the other end but the lady was stubborn so i..kinda… just…went to my knees then lay down on the floor and scooted my way near the lady’s feet and then stood up so she was kinda hugging me from behind because she refused to let go of the cart and my awkward ass just turned my head and with a bubbly voice went ‘yay! I still remember the time I was 16 and a lady sent her husband in and he threatened me with physical violence because I refused to top her chips up. I had watched her sit there and shake them down as much as possible, holding up the line on the busiest day of the week and hand them back and demand I fill them. This woman had some kind of problem every week and would complain so much that management would replace a meal worth $100+ EVERY. WEEK! It got to the point where we kind of black listed her as a scammer and wouldn't replace her food/send her vouchers anymore because the "issues" she had with her meals were ridiculous and she could never provide any photo proof of her claims (eg undercooked chicken, missing items etc.) So she instead thought it would be a good idea to send her very tall, very broad husband in. He actually called me out in front of a whole dining room full of customers and tried to make me step out from behind the counter... That was an interesting day.

Storytime! The first Karen I ever encountered, was in late January. My puppy (who had not been trained not to bark yet because she was just a little puppy) was barking at someone walking. My dad called my puppy (her name is Cola) to come inside. He said: "Cola! Come on, Cola! Inside! Cola! Come on!" And she went inside. He closed the door and went inside. The karen started screaming "EXCUSE ME! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE??? YOU TALKING ME??!!!" My dad went outside and explained he was talking to my puppy, Cola. He went back inside after her temper tantrum, but she never moved. She stayed outside my house for an hour!!! My mum went outside and got in her car. She was pulling out the drive way, but the Karen blocked her and said she couldn't go. She then lyed on the floor and started screaming! She pretended my mum had hit her with the car! It was crazy! Of course my puppy started barking again and my dad called the poliece! We had video evidence that my mum did not hit her, and how she stayed outside my house! The police took her to police station and idk what happened next! Hope you enjoyed! What was your first experience with a Karen?

The Amazon driver - that happened to me, too. I was driving my adult daughter around a rural area for her census job last summer (she didn’t have her license yet). I parked in the driveway of this house on the list because there were ditches on both sides of the road and no shoulders. The guy didn’t answer his door to my daughter knocking but then came out to confront me when I stayed parked there for two more minutes while my daughter recorded his lack of response at the door.

I always try to but when out walking / biking you do get those happy waggy boys n girls that will come running up to you well out of conversation range (without being obnoxious and shouting which would probably scare the dog) and they are obviously wanting to say hello and I will let them sniff my hand and a then give them a small pat - I mean at that point it is not my fault. I’ll admit as a kid, I was forever walking up to strange dogs. My parents were usually nowhere around when I did this. Though none were service dogs. I did not talk or interact with adult strangers. It drove my parents crazy because they were sure I’d get mauled one day. I never got bit. I also didn’t mess with “beware of dog” dogs. Of course I’m old, so there really wasn’t a plethora of service dogs around yet. My son knew to ask before petting dog, as does my grandchildren.

My first encounter with a Karen was when I was biking home from school. I went down a different path than I normally went and there just happened to be a momma deer with two babies. I could not go across the street because there was no crosswalk and it was busy so the only choice I had was to go around them. So as I was trying to carefully and quietly go around them keeping my distance, a karen started yelling at me out of her car window, stopped her car in the middle of the highway, got out and was screaming at me "Don't you harm those animals! You have no right to touch the deer! It's a crime and I will call the cops if you move an inch". And then (I'm assuming her husband) got out of the passenger side and started pulling her back in the car and told me to continue on my way while he dealt with her. I just wanted to get home and avoid the bambi's as much as possible :/

My most memorable Karen experience was with an old lady. I have a service dog that's currently in training, and my husband and I were taking her inside to familiarize her with the busy shopping environment. This old lady (a customer btw) comes up to me as I'm putting my service dog in the cart (she wasn't ready to walk by lead yet) and proceeds to tell me that the manager wasn't going to allow me to bring her in, and even physically blocked us from going in the store. This went on for five minutes until the manager came out and was right about to tell her off when I just snapped - I pushed the cart into the opening between her and the automatic doors and told her to her face as I'm pushing through into the store, "Federal Law states that there is no difference between service dogs in training or not, and YOU don't work here." The woman tried to yell after me but the Manager had already intervened and told her to leave, or she'd call the cops because she was interfering with a service animal which was a federal offense.

@Mommi2maxwell She was a very young puppy in training, so she was easily terrified on the ground (Plus our trainer even said that she needed to be in the cart until she got used to it). @@DaiNoShoujoNoYami its still gross though. like there are plenty of other options to bring a dog into the store like that thats NOT in a cart. @@Mommi2maxwell Dude, I lost my house (still havent recovered) before I became a truck driver, and everything my husband and I own either has to fit into our Semi or our 20ft trailer (Edit: the trailer is a RV trailer that someone gave us so we wouldn't be on the streets). We didn't have (and still don't have) the funds or the space for a one-trick pony/mono-tasker - especially since this particular phase of her training went by super quick. We did the best we could by bringing in a blanket for her to lay on, and even used anti-bacterial wipes either the store provided or ones we managed to get our hands on to wipe everything down before and after my service dog was in the cart. People like you are mini versions of the girl who told people to stop being homeless by buying a house - and even besides all that, you should be using anti-bacterial wipes and products on the cart when you grab it in the first place, _because worse things have been put into those carts_ .

As for the service dog one (I don’t have one btw nor do I need one so not speaking from experience just witnessing), service dogs have to be basically covered, vest and leash, in different “Do Not Pet”/“Do not Interact” stickers, and what do people do? Cases like these are the proof that the worlds reading comprehension is way lower than we think it is. Thank you for pointing this out Kris. Service animals do such an important job and to do that job it’s most important that they’re not disturbed/distracted, it can be potentially deadly to the handler (service dogs can among other things detect low/high blood sugar and help those with seizures). Don’t pet working dogs (I know it’s hard but it’s vital that you don’t and all service dogs I know get so spoilt when off duty) and also don’t just wander up and pet random animals unless given permission yo, this applies to pet dogs as well. As heartbreaking as it is, animals aren’t your wandering personal petting zoo and you need to respect that for your own, the animals and others safety.

My Karen experience left me shook for a week. I work at a craft store as a manager, and I was walking to the back of the store where the employee break room was to put my stuff up in my locker and clock in. I’m clearly wearing a T-shirt with the store logo and everything. I see a woman in the clearance section on my way back and attempt to strike up a convo with her as it’s my job to engage customers in convo (though I wasn’t technically on the clock yet, guess I did so out of habit). She and I talk about the items she’s putting into her cart and what she’s going to make with them. A few minutes of small talk go buy when suddenly, out of the blue she goes full on Karen and asks if I work there or am just shopping. I say I’m on my way to clock in and apologize if I’ve bothered her in any way. She flips out and says I’m being super creepy and that she wants to speak with the store manager. At this point I just want to end our interaction, so I put my hands up in a gesture of surrender, apologize a second time and told her “I’m leaving now.” backing away until I can walk straight back to the break room. I put my stuff in my locker, clock in and when I make my way to the front where the registers are, I go over the incident with the store manager. Apparently after I left the Karen she made a bee line straight to the front end of the store and demanded to speak with the store manager, claiming I was stalking her and being racist (the Karen was black and I’m white) but I’m always trying my best to be kind and respectful to everyone, race, creed, gender identity or sexual orientation, so her being a black woman was the farthest thing from my mind. I don’t think anyone had ever called my actions racist before so that shocked me. The Karen then demanded to get a discount for all the emotional distress she was put through and assured the store manager that she would call the company’s corporate office to lodge a complaint. She got her discount, on clearance items mind you, paid and left in a huff. All while I was in the back clocking in. The store manager went and looked at the CCTV footage that recorded the event and agreed with me that I was not at fault. The Karen never did call corporate or even complain via a survey and we never saw or heard anything else from her again.

Story time about a male Karen: so my parents, my dog and I were in a shopping center and we were sitting down in a little restaurant and eating ice cream. On the table behind us was a man with his children but I didn’t really noticed him until I noticed that my dog wasn’t beside me anymore so I turned around and my dog was sitting behind my chair and the man and his kids were trying to feed him an ice cream cone with chocolate on it, wich is not good for dogs and if they eat it, it can be very dangerous for the dog even when it’s just a small amount. They were also trying to pet our dog but he isn’t good with strangers and gets scared pretty easily. So my dad noticed at the same time and told the man politely to please stop feeding our dog without permission especially because it’s chocolate and my mom called our dog besides her so he wouldn’t be near the table behind us anymore. So the man was a little confused and was trying to convince my dad that its nothing to worry about since he had a dog too and stuff like that. One of the boys was still trying to feed and pet our dog during the conversation between my dad and the man and so my mom told him to stop. Our dog was already scared and was trying to hide behind my moms chair. Well this is when things get complicated… the boy ignored my mom and so my dad told him in a louder voice to stop. And that was the point when the man completely lost it and started yelling at my dad to not talk to his son like that and stuff. At the end of the story we left the restaurant and the waitress was still trying to calm the man down. And I was like 8 around that time so yeah I was scared just like my dog 😅 the end 👍🏻

I don't have many Karen experiences, but as a retail worker I have some. Worst one thus far was a mother and her teen daughter who had open food and drink in the store (we don't allow outside food or drink in the store and there's a huge sign on the door that says so) and I had the gall to tell them, in these exact words as kindly as I could "just for future reference, we don't allow outside food or drink in the store." No hint of aggression, complete nice customer service good girl next door me, and the reaction? The Karen threw her merchandise at me and stormed out, her daughter following suit, and I could hear them badmouthing me and the store both for having the gall to mention a fucking rule that was on a giant sign at eye height on the bloody door of the store they had to pass through to get in. I wasn't even throwing them out or accusing them of anything I literally just said for future reference so they knew for next time.

They might assault you, claim SA, or anything else that may not hold up in court but can still can many months or even years to be horribly stressful. And I know that for a fact because a Karen made me and my coworkers technically lose our jobs that we all had to reply apply for because her daughter was an idiot. I have a Karen story: During the pandemic, it was a really hot day- like 93 degrees. My friend came over and we wanted to go for a walk on a trail nearby my house in the middle of the day when typically nobody was around. We brought masks with us, but with the heat and with being outdoors, keeping our distance from people was safe enough. We had 2 mid-50s Karens, both wearing masks, pass by us. We moved well out of the way (30ft, minimum), and continued talking on our walk. The Karens swerved into our zone and got up in our faces, "YOU'RE PUTTING EVERYONE AT RISK. PUT YOUR MASK ON. YOU'RE TOO CLOSE TO US." I gathered my non-confrontational balls for a second, moved away from them again, "YOU'RE THE ONE WHO APPROACHED US, KAREN!"

I had something similar happen to me, except it was because I was wearing a mask and the karens who approached me wanted to belittle me and "educate me" on how masks "dont work" and vaccines are brainwashing us and it's the goverment secretly chipping us to watch our every move lmao Calling me a sheep and shit, when I was mostly wearing the mask because I was sick myself. I told them as such and also said i could remove it and just cough all over them and all the surfaces in public transit that they would be touching that day if they'd prefer it, and they called me some names like the children they were and left.

Not gonna lie, I was probably one of those people at parks. But, I've also worked parks and intimately understand why the rules are there. The triggering thing for me in this potential scenario would be if I saw them tear that branch from a tree (or how they tore it), or if I knew what they picked was poison oak (you'd be surprised how much this is an issue - but in this case, the leaves look much to big for this to be an issue). So, in or out of uniform I have asked people to do something and have explained why if they ask. I've also seen a lot of inappropriate behavior as well. Treehugger now has a whole other meaning to me... well, me downgrading it from treefu***r. And I will add something about the boat. I have worked security at gated communities before and some of them do have a policy that the resident has to physically be with you in order for you to fish, or be on the lake. Some people try to warn others about it and get snappy with confrontation. Whereas there are some bitter residents that will try to enforce the rule themselves, or get angry that they have not gotten caught by security yet.

Yep, I would be lying if I said I would ever be one of those people at the park ... but yeah if I saw someone argue after being told, I'd definitely lend support. You can see the entire branch in the shadow - it's excessive - so like she said, "Pick berries, but don't take the bush with you.".

My craziest karen experience : i have ADHD , anxiety and autism so i always have my emotional support dog with me as she keeps me from having anxiety attacks and once i was at a youth club (who does not allow dogs )i was allowed to take my dog to so i come in with a couple of friends , a big dog comes running up to me (scared of big dogs ) and my dog (a shi~poo so a very small dog)and the owner says to me "oh sorry bella is the only dog allowed here so tie ur dog up outside " keep in mind i had been going to the youth club for Nearly a year with my dog and had never seen this dog here before so im told that my dogs not allowed in her dog is stressing my dog out by keep coming up to her while my friends are trying to keep me from hitting out at something so my mum comes to collect me and when she sees the dog ,the owner of the youth club comes out and says that the big dog not allowed to go anymore or else the owner and her kids will get banned from going there, the owner of the dog has brought her once after and my mother said "so what is bella here for ?" .owner says "i cant just leave her at home and ur daughter doesn't need that dog as ur daughter was running around in ur yard a few days ago and i couldn't see her dog with her " my mum says "the dog was out there with her the dog was underneath my daughter's trampoline as it was a hot day and my daughter cant go anywhere without her so she cant be left at home even if i wanted to" the big dog's owners been banned since

My craziest Karen Story: I used to work at Bed Bath and Beyond (home goods store) in college. On Black Friday they only have one coupon we can accept, otherwise we’d be there all day scanning coupons, and you can only get it by coming to the store and getting it early on Black Friday morning. So later in the afternoon this woman comes through my check out line with a huge stack of coupons (iykyk) and I tell her I can’t take them, only they Black Friday one (which she didn’t have). She starts pitching a fit and acting a fool, and I keep trying to calm her down and explain and then she starts throwing coupons at me. I duck down behind my counter, my coworker is hollering for the manager to come help, and Karen is now screaming obscenities at me, along with throwing her coupons. In the end she got arrested and escorted out by city cops. I have no idea what became of her, but I never saw her in the store again nor did I press charges (the coupons didn’t hurt me). Also I got to keep her coupons for my own holiday shopping.
