"The Great Clown Panic of 2016." What the fuck even is this year, man.

This clown scare is definitely causing mass hysteria, and it's being fueled by media and social media. I admit to always getting the creeper vibe from clowns and have a huge disliking of them, but I just see this Halloween being an excuse for people to beat up clowns and/or weirdos to use it as a way to actually do something criminal. This is my favorite of the clown stories I have listened to, as it brought up how one incident had evolved into a global evil clown craze.

Growing up, I often feared strangers, but not clowns specifically. Even now I don't fear them, but I'm acutely aware that there are psychopaths dressing as clowns. It makes sense; the best way to scare people is to play on their preconceived fears.

My 3 brothers and I always used to dress up as clowns for Halloween and roam the streets and stare at people to try to get some kind of reaction, now we realized we can't do it this year or we'll get shot...

I have a genuine love-hate relationship with clowns... My late father loved clowns...he was much older than my mom, and was a kid during WW2 so this was before clowns were scary on purpose. The earliest memory I can recall was screaming in my crib at night because my dad decorated my baby bedroom all in clowns...and it took my parents awhile before they figured it was all the clowns that were scaring me. So the first year of my life I remember being locked in a room full of clowns in the dark every night. My first boyfriends dad was a clown...he did kid's parties for like 30 years. He had registered face paint, and clown certificates and everything. He also really hated Richard Nixon ...he had framed the headline newspaper of the day Nixon died and had it above his fire place. He drove a white van with his clown business's logo on the side....I still dont know why he thought white was such a good idea. Today....not only am I not scared of clowns ...but I kind of like them. It was actually stories like SK's IT and Killer Clowns that made me start to appreciate clowns as a horror fan...this is why I am always excited to see clowns at haunted houses now, because in a way they remind me of the dark....but not the darkest part of childhood. And clowns were nothing compared to some of the adults I'd had the misfortune to meet back then.

interestingly enough I am not afraid of clowns, never have been. In fact my mother dated a man who worked as a clown part-time. I remember him as a very nice guy. I think the fear stems from who we meet as a clown when we are very young. Is it someone who genuinely likes kids and takes pleasure from bringing them joy. Or someone who perhaps likes to be around children for .... less noble reasons. People often say small children are perceptive, yet they often force children to be nice to someone they are clearly afraid of, never did figure that out. Maybe many are afraid of clowns because they encountered a "bad man" and if they had instead like me met a good person with a huge heart would find them at least ok. I am pretty sure that my discomfort with people in animal costume stems from meeting ones who "probably shouldn't have been around kids."

People are often creeped out by anything that should look human but looks wrong. Slenderman and Jeff the Killer... human or humanoid, but so wrong. Awesome video, by the way. I usually zone out and move on to something else, but this was a prime video. Keep up the amazing work.

This thorough analysis breaks everything down logically. This is a good thing in the face of the mass hysteria. Personally, I have never liked clowns. As a child, they frightened me. The "otherness" of clowns, which you mentioned, makes so much sense. They look almost human, but something is off enough for our primal instincts to scream, "danger!" It's like seeing an alien which looks humanoid but not human. Maybe the time has come for clowns to take their last bows as entertainers. Our society, for the most part, doesn't seem to want or need clowns in their previous roles.

My small-town Kentucky paper ran a PSA article about a month ago urging people to 'PLEASE DON'T ABUSE OUR 911 DISPATCH CENTER AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT WITH CALLS CONCERNING CLOWN SIGHTINGS.' They went on to detail about a few jackasses who're dressing up & scaring people, which I quite honestly think takes some balls considering the firearm to resident ratio around here. In part I think it was a request for people to hold back from filling these idiots ('clown individuals', oh the comedy gold...) with buckshot, although I'd be hardpressed myself not to at least offer to ventilate those giant shoes for them. The best/worst part of the article...what did the paper use right under 'NOTICE'? Clip art of a creepy freaking clown! XD Also, gah! I had to keep my eyes averted from my phone to avoid that terrifying clown video loop you had going on...

I hated that whole Clown Craze. Me and my friends went clown hunting last year but we only found one. We chased him in our truck and he ran off into the woods before we'd jumped out armed with metal bats. They'd better not come back next Halloween, or else.

My fear goes all the way back to age 2. My mom said that I have always had that fear. Now, as an adult, I rationalize it and I know it's just a phobia, but it's still deep set into my brain. But...having said that...you even made clowns appealing. At least in a story. :) Oh, and the visuals were hard to look at. Luckily I was (for the most part) just listening. Hahaha

I had no idea that it started in Greenville, SC. I used to date a girl from there, and also had a friend I’d visit there. It isn’t a place you’d ever expect this shit. Now I’m in NYC, where you’d expect it, haven’t seen any clowns. Now what definitely does happen here, is around and in Halloween, these kids put on the “scariest” masks they can, and will stare at you with the hope of instilling fear as they think you only see the mask, but you really see the rest of an 85lb boy wearing a cheap plastic mask. It’s such a joke.

After she showed her ex-police dad, he told the idiot that if he doesn't give his name, he'd give his number to the police to get him tracked and arrested. Right near halloween, I watched IT, because why not. We were at a friend's/ neighbours, and I ended up walking home, and what did my paranoid ass see? FOUR FUCKING CLOWNS RIGHT ON A PORCH ACROSS THE STREET. Saw these guys twice, and I was ready to punch. Night these freaking clowns were supposed to arrive in my town, I was home alone. I heard footsteps upstairs. And a voice. I called my friend, told her to come bc I was scared and was about to piss myself. We found nothing
