I find it incredibly funny how the mid card of WCW in the 90s became the pillars of WWE in the 2000s. Goes to show you how easily WCW could won the war and how they squandered such talent in the procession

@@Bsfnelz20 not really people mostly watched nitro for the nwo yeah they were good in the ring but they weren't on the same level as the big names were and they weren't big draws like not taking anything away from them but they were not the reason why people brought tickets to go see Nitro or a pay-per-view every Arena that WCW was selling out was because of guys like Hulk Hogan,Goldberg'Scott Hall,Kevin Nash and sting they were the reason why people tuned into nitro every week because people could not wait to see what nwo were going to do.

When I started watching wrestling I started because of the people i knew from pop culture (Hogan, Sting, Flair, Macho). I kept watching WCW because of that division and the rest of the undercard.
@travelreview5962
@travelreview5962 4 жыл бұрын
@@Bsfnelz20 If you don't trust me you can get the actual hour by hour ratings during that time, most people watched for the nWo. The nWo actually helped bring eyes to the stacked cruiser weight division. But it wasn't even close, wCw would routinely increase an extra 1 million viewers when the nWo was featured. Networks have access to all sorts of statistics that allow them to determine exactly when people are watching and when they are tuning out and they were never more tuned into those numbers than during the Monday night wars.

The cruiserweight division was hands down the main reason to watch WCW from 97-99. Not proud to admit this, but one of the moments I'd switch to RAW was when the Lucha Libre guys were on. At the time I just couldn't get past their gear/ that part of their style. Then I saw Liger perform ( felt the same about the Japanese gear too ), which led to watching Rey, Juventud, Psychosis, LaParka & so on....I was hooked! I knew Rey's work in depth from his ECW ( R.I.P. ) days. I think he pioneered the hurrincarrana on top of a car, but man. Unbelievable matches amongst all of this great talent. LaParka was kind of the Jackie Chan of the cruiserweights- he definitely stood out. Ultimo Dragon, Jericho, Eddie Guerrero ( R.I.P. ), Malenko & Saturn were my guys. Outstanding job covering this. The division defintitely deserves a part II. Disco was not a fave, but as you said- he put 100% into his character- much respect, like the HTM, & he was better than people give him credit for.

ROCKSTAR JOJO RODRIGUEZ 150+ Wins and it was too early? Like Kevin Nash said If your whole gimmick is a Undefeated Streak, retire once you get beaten, also the NWO thing was dying down they could’ve just ended it with Nash Vs Hogan, winner gets the rights to the NWO. I don’t think Starrcade was the right time to end it, but just like originally Goldberg hype was done after that and then he got Injured, there was nothing you could do with Goldberg, cause he can’t Wrestle long Matches, but after his Streak is over, squash matches are just nothing, but one or two Cruiserweight’s should get a guaranteed push in 1999.

D Sadd can’t speak for Alex, never really saw him. Disco was fun, he could actually wrestle and didn’t rely purely upon his gimic, he could draw whatever he wanted from the crowd, had agility, was precise with his blows, could sell, his matches had a good flow of action and emotion, he knew how to tell the story of the match in the ring. He could go any distance without gassing out. He had a distinct look, and embraced the idea that wrestling is best when two people are out there to make each other look good.

By far the best part of WCW. Cruiserweight division was why I tuned in to every week 10 times better than anything on WWF at the time and better than the heavyweight division in WCW.

If a part 2 ever comes out then don't forget to mention the rising cruiserweights like Kid Romeo, Air Styles & Elix Skipper plus Mr. JL. Keep up the good work, love your channel.

That was the golden age of the lightheavyweights/crusierweights in the 90's. In that decade when Pro Wrestling was changing from big wrestlers that looked like bodybuilders to the smaller more skilled and dynamic wrestlers at the time.

Extra Awesome that you mentioned Jericho, Disco, Alex Wright, Lash and Dean. We would have been happy if the video had been an hour long, man. Definitely ready for Pt 2. Another great video!

Dude most of these wrestlers were my favorite wrestlers. Cruiserweight wrestling is what I waited for on Nitro and Thunder. Loved it so much when I was a kid.

You know what a really cool angle would have been.. Imagine Eric Bischoff began to book the crusierweights as the main eventers, thus sparking a feud between the big guys and the crusierweights. Maybe even LWO vs NWO

THE main reason I watched WCW at the time. The NWO was okay, but I LOVED watching the cruiserweights. Dean Malenko was my favorite.

Great upload man!!! Finally recognizing the smaller division. Cruiser weight division was always my favorite. It's also home to the best in-ring technical high flying aerial mechanic wrestlers!!! Lots of athleticism is used in the cruiser weight division.I'm 5'8'' 175 lbs myself, 15%-16% bodyfat.

Rey Mysterio Jr., Eddie Guerrero, (R.I.P.)Chavo Guerrero, Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko, Super Calo, Ultimo Dragon, Juventud Guerrera, Psychosis, Psiclope, La Parka, Billy Kidman, Jushin "Thunder" Liger, La Parka, all so awesome to watch!! Can't forget some forgotten gem wrestlers like Hector Garza, Silverking and the Vianos competing in the last Clash of the Champions. Jerry Lynn as the purple-msked jobber J.L. was good too and Alex Wright and Disco Inferno were very good to watch as well. WCW Cruiserweight Division constantly featured some of the very best matches, and when Eddie and Dean left along with Chris Benoit and Perry Saturn, WCW was a husk of what it used to be from 1996-98.

One of my fondest memories of WCW wrestling was the Best of 7 series between Booker T and Chris Benoit. That was an intense competition for younger me! Also, favorite cruiserweights for me were: Dean Malenko Chris Jericho Ultimo Dragon Chris Benoit Perry Saturn There was something about the competitiveness in the WCW cruiser weight division that was great. You had high flyers, submission experts and more “all arounders.” I loved that era.
