I live on the florida coast. We have sharks ALL over, if you go along the coast in a plane or something you will see them only a few meters away from people not caring about the people. I still go in the water, if I get bit, I put myself at risk being there. That's how the ocean works.

Little_Lion_Heart 😁👌🏻 I live in England I can count the times I've been in the sea on one hand but if I lived in a country and area where sharks were found and entered their domain that's my fault if I get attacked, ur right though studies show sharks are mostly not even interested in us and considering how often they come into contact with ppl the attack numbers are very small

You're right but there is no denying the shark attacks which have happened, so there is ALWAYS the possibility. To be fair i used to live in perth and then sydney and ive been told stories from mad skippers on the west and east coast of Australia about sharks that big they will come up and take you whole under the depths and if nobody is looking in that exact spot at the same time, nobody will notice, they're that good at what they do.

Pretty much true. I live in an area where there have been around 5 attacks (that I know of) in the past 20 years, at least 2 of them fatal where the shark removed both legs with a single bite. Yet surfers are in the water every single day here, regardless of the season, going up the entire California coastline. If we were really seen as a viable meal, it would be like Jaws, with people getting dragged under every single day. The problem for the victims is that mistaken identity isn't going to bring back a limb or their life.

I remember as a kid my parents took the family on a vacation in the Bahamas. We took a day trip to this island to do snorkeling. The island had a beautiful reef that suddenly dropped off hundreds of feet down. A whole group of us snorkeled off the reef and enjoyed the open ocean. I spotted about 5 tiny dots moving in circles getting bigger every moment. I yelled for everyone to come back on to the reef. Turned out they were 8 foot sharks slowly making their way to the group. I can only imagine the feeding frenzy that would have happened. Wet suit or not, we almost became lunch. Watching this show it really is a matter of being aware of your surroundings and knowing how to fend off sharks. The same goes for people who venture out into the woods and mountains.

I highly doubt they were coming to feed. You saw them coming for one, more than likely y’all’s unusual noises attracted their attention and they were curious. If they wanted to eat you, you would have been eaten. They are not mindless eating machines..

I've spent a lot of time in the woods and in the mountains, both as a civilian and in the Army. I've seen a few bears , a couple of deer , foxes , and heard but not seen big cats. I've never come across a ahark though. I've seen quite a few in the Gulf of Mexico though , I worked on Charters for a while , once snokeling in Cancun on a reef I saw a few . I couldn't go down deep enough to get close so I don't know how big they were , the water was pretty deep right there.

@@kndvideo734 it's a bit deeper than that. It was public knowledge, that people in wetsuits were mistaken as seals by sharks. That was a misconception. Recent studies show, that most sharks are just curious. Though, their curiousity can be fatal, as their way to explore something is limited to their mouth. Which then again will cause mayhem

I have never understood why divers wear wet suits that are black which can look like a seal, hunters don't wear outfits that look like deer. Lol.
@pixylord

The reason why a lot of wet suits are black is because a black object absorbs light and then converts it into heat, making that object warm. Seeing as how the ocean is really cold, having a black wet suit is the default pick.

ʻAumākua is our kūpuna (ancestors) who’s spirit will take on the form of an animal such as the manō (shark) once they have passed on to the next realm. The shark is probably one of the most recognizable ʻaumākua as we are a people born and raised in the ocean. They teach us many things such as awareness, humility, and respect. So as a Native Hawaiian, when I hear people HERE going out and just killing random sharks because someone got attacked while being in the sharks home turf, I take it personally because those are our kūpuna.

In this documentary they said that sharks have small brains. I saw an anotherdocumentary that just recently scientists discovered that sharks brains are larger than they previously thought.there is a long piece running from what was thought to be the brain down to the snout where there is another piece and they've decided that this whole area is the shark's brain. They are not the mindless killers they were previously thought to be.

I know you replied a long time ago but yes sharks definitely have brains! Think about it world wide less then 10 people die from mistakes by juvenile sharks learning to hunt! This generally happens when they're switching over from fish to pinepeds/ seals! From the instant they do an exploratory bite they released and realize they've made a mistake! When they've had experience they life 900lb seals 15 ft out of the water bitting them in half, even at times breaking their the seals backs from how aggressively these attacks are! The irony is how people want to play God an kill all the sharks because less then 10 people die world wide! Imagine that clearing the whole oceans of sharks just so people have a better place to swim! But then people kill over 100 million sharks just for fin soup! I'd rather be in the water with another shark then to be the shark in the water with another human!

@@meaghancote-mcauley79 say that to Shirley Ann Durdin, where the shark came back twice after the initial bite to finish her off. There are plenty of documented incidents where Sharks have intended to prey on human. The truth is, we don't know enough of these magnificent animals to know their patterns and behaviours. To claim they don't intend to eat humans is a dangerous statement. Let's not repeat a lie and pretend animals don't look at us as food. Sure the Ocean is there home, but how about yours. Are you going to let Snakes, possums, and other wild animals in your home because a couple decades again, it was their territory too?

That a fisherman had just caught the week before right out where we'd been diving for lobster all week long... I will admit that the entire week we were out there snorkeling around in open ocean, now one day passes that i wasn't very nervous @ felt very small @ defenceless in a HUGE@ potentially deadly place, but i learned at an early age of i let fear rule me there were many things of never get to see our experience. It was a beautiful experince i saw a huge sea turtle, many very colorful gorgeous tiny fish, lovely coral, I saw a sting ray that must've been 5 ft across @ I'm 5'2 lol... The sheer beauty of that underwater world was just amazing.... And i found out i could still be filled with awe at the majesty of the ocean, yet have a very healthy respect and no small fear for the creatures who call it home @ wouldn't hesitate to consider me a snack, if slightly crunchy at 118 lbs lol ...

I appreciate that one of the scientists called out the notion that these awesome apex predators have all of these attuned senses these very shows are used to explain as part of the post-Jaws sharks-are-great PR campaigns and yet somehow still are making "mistakes" in judgment about the humans they hit, pointing out the simple reality that anything animal = potential food, especially in their strike zone at the surface!. They can smell small amounts of blood a quarter mile away (not a whole mile) and have 100 times the sense of smell we do but somehow then aren't supposed to notice that seals, sea lions, turtles, and these weird things that sometimes come thrashing around their neighborhoods like bullsharks in shell shops smell nothing alike?!? If an albatross chick is enough of a meal, a couple of mouthfuls of human can be, too!

18:12 this is probably why people say that sharks mistakenly attack humans and that when they realize what their meals is, they swim away. It could be exactly the reason stated here, that they wait for the human to die. However since people help each other rather quickly in these situations, especially if there are boats around, they save their lives and the shark ends up losing it's meal.
