Thanks for talking about some of the unsung heroes of the American Revolution. This is the first time I've heard a lot of this information.

There’s a TV show that tells this story pretty well called TURN: Washington’s Spies
@christopher631
@christopher631 2 жыл бұрын
@@ItzNiekoyo TURN is also full of inaccuracies (theatrical license). For example, Simcoe was nowhere near as villainous as he was portrayed. He was an early abolitionist, founded the city of Toronto and is still celebrated there with an annual holiday. There's also a street named after him in Oyster Bay, where the Townsend family is buried.

@@christopher631 It is amazing that Simcoe helped abolish slavery in Canada. I agree that he should be remembered for his many heroic acts!

@@americanhistorygeek1926 and Angelia - I, we, still have great need for you and me as well. Patriotism can never be out sourced. I forget what is first, second or third, but it is probably people, land and then system. Loyalty, that's a whole 'nother gig. Please, remember, if you, as if Anna Strong or any of the others had been discovered, the Brit's wouldn't have waited 'till dawn to hang you, and you'd be lucky for that, as it could be, and often was, worse, and then they'd hang you on twice as hard, with time off for 'good behaviour'. It was not shits and giggles, my point. In fact, being 'drawn and quartered', wasn't outlawed for another 60 years, so you could count you blessings, to only be hung, which prior, was a right reserved only for royalty. So, in the eyes of the Brits, if we only hang you, that's being pretty kind, on our part. I'm telling you, look it up

@@americanhistorygeek1926 did you ever watch Turn, Washington spies? It's not the greatest for historical info but a great drama. Your video show's what events were real from that show. It's kinda cool I think how much of the real story they put in with the dramatic flair!

@@Qsefe99 Thanks and yeah, I was a big fan! I thought they did a great job with developing the characters and making an exciting, plot-twist filled epic! Another movie that covers the American Revolution in an exciting action-filled way is “The Patriot” starring Mel Gibson, that’s a very good movie as well.

Not to denigrate what is being said, but one is ever 'in' Long Island, as one is only 'on', Long Island. Sorry, but it's sort of a thing around here. As well, the image at about 14:25, of a 'row boat', is not at all as I understand it would be. That is more a 'Viking' ship, which by being 'conspicuous', the Culper spy ring would never do. They sailed or rowed small ships, as otherwise un-noticeable by the British. As to Anna Strong, and what is now known as 'Strongs Neck', as a 'place', that is all true. In fact, I've met some of her family, not that I knew who they were until later. As far as I know it, everything said on this vlog. is true as wool, and I sail these waters. It's a pretty complicated space, for such a simple one. So, Strongs Neck, is in Setauket, but Setauket is comprised of a number of Villages, and Poquott, the one I live in, is one of them. So, even tho Setauket is known as the 'Three Villages', well, essentially, it is Setauket, altho some times referred to as 'East Setauket, South Setauket', or however one might care to. All in all, at most, a 10 mile by 10 mile circumferance, if that, often for reasons of a school district, which brings the whole 'school tax' thing into play, but we get along pretty well with each other. There's not a lot of 'in-fighting' going on in Setauket, altho there could be. We tend to be kind to each other, and on the same page, basically, for the kids. It seems that what applies to one, applies to all, or at least, all of our kids go to the same schools and sail the same waters, which to me, seems to be the point. There are places, where one is technically not 'allowed to', but such a digression is usually ignorged, and if not, at Village Hall Meetings, it might be made clear it should be. I remember once, there were a couple of kids, who came and sailed a Sunfish, or such, and even tho they were residents of Setauket, they where' ticketed', fined, because they didn't live in 'Poquott', proper. We, their friends, showed up to court, just a matter of Village Hall, and said, in force, how dare you? Somehow, it was worked out that they could, as well as anyone else who lived in Setauket, but was not a resident of 'Poquott', was allowed to sail these waters, as 'waters' are not 'ours', in the larger sense, nor, in the larger sense, do we care to be represented that way. Whether what goes around and comes around or not, we all agreed, adobt this law, or be voted out, the threat of which, believe me, is always real around here. One thing we don't often do, is tolerate bullshit. On the other hand, why one would want to serve duty at Village Hall, is beyond me as well. There is no money in it, which keeps the riff-raff out, or so I like to believe, which is why, altho insisted I do, I have never run for election. Instead, I keep being appointed to office, by the Mayor, but only because no one else wants the position (which I find to be pretty similar to 'doggie', with a more prestigious name). It is only by a void, a vacuum, by which I serve. The powers I have, I have no right to have, which is how I dare everyone else, to please, come and take my role, but no one is fool enough, no matter how much they might bitch and moan. Seriously, all friends of mine, come up to me, and say, if you could say this, or that, to the Mayor, it'll work out well. Yeah, work out well for you, maybe, but I'll be the one taking the heat. Hey, I already have a boat, a house, a car, a dog and a wife, all paid for (altho that in terms of repair and taxes, nothing is ever paid for), but the theory is, at the start of the month, I don't owe anybody anything, so why would I worry about you? It's a great place to live, as if anyone can figure out an elegant means to.

Sorry, but many of your facts are taken from unproven stories passed around over many generations. For more up to date information, read books by authors like Bill Bleyer and Claire Bellerjeau.

Christopher J - Please spare me a perhaps useless steeple chase, but what 'facts' are you referrring to? By the way, when you say 'your facts', who are you referring to? As to Bleyer and Bellerjeau, why not tantalize us with a tiny bit of information, before I go sasquatch to find them? Not to say you are an idiot, and I doubt you are, but at least give me a little something to suppose you are not. I can't go around wasting my time on what just anyone says, for whatever reason. Give me a hint as to what's going on in your mind, or I'll just kiss you off, as yet just another worthless turd, trying to waste my time. If you've got something to actually say, give me just a hint of what I can build on. Otherwise, put it where the sun don't shine. I live here, where it happened, so what do I know? If you know something I don't, I'll be glad to hear it, but you will have to 'use your words', rather than just being a condescending smart ass, to put it politely.
