Love to hear Robert talk so chatty and candidly about production and how everything comes together. I say it often and I'll say it again, he is simply a genius and it's truly amazing how the band just love playing together...for all these years!🖤

I recall that as a teen I played the albums over and over again. They were/are so good and I am pleased they received the award. As a 58 year old fan, it didn’t matter, because they are my band and always will be.

This album is THE most perfect album of ALL TIME, FOR ME. I have already requested that it be played as the last album I ever hear. It's brilliant I feel like it was a spiritual experience seeing the concert tour for this album. ❤ Robert is such a good man. You can feel his passion and that of the band in his music. His interactions with the fans are beyond precious. You never feel like he takes us for granted. One of the most amazing things is how little his voice has changed over the years. The man, the band, the album are all just treasures. ❤❤❤❤❤ ALSO! As a teen when I first discovered The Cure, I of course like many wanted to embody the coolness of the band and especially Robert. I remember all my friends had various ratted, backcombed hairstyles, and we absolutely shunned the sun, and coated ourselves in sunscreen, opting instead for his very pale, red lip look. Consequently, as a woman of 49, my skin is pretty damn great and I directly connect it to building those good habits during the Disintegration years.

Melancholy is not the same as "depressing". Several songs in Disintegration have a melancholy feel to them but if the listener also happens to be in that frame of mine, hearing someone sing thoughts similar to your own can be very uplifting because it lets you know you're not alone.

It's interesting you say that because I was listening to The Funeral Party today (I know this isn't on Disintegration though) and thought to myself it's interesting how this song has initially a downbeat sound to it on first listen but it makes me smile now after I'd listened to it again. For me that song has a Melancholy feel but also makes me feel uplifted in a way, I think because Smith's singing sounds really intimate to me yet his keyboards really swell and with Lol's crashing drums it creates an atmosphere that I can happily sit and stare out the window, people watching and smiling. I adore that song 😊

@@floretionguru2977 thank you! It's crazy but I've only really gotten into them the past year or so even though I'm 40. For some reason I never got round to giving them a proper listen even though the songs I'd heard I enjoyed-it wasn't until Spotify happened to put a song on from Pornography that my ears pricked up more and I thought "huh, why on earth haven't I checked them out more?". I've still only listened to the albums up until/including Disintegration so if you've any suggestions for albums after that you think I'd enjoy that would be great! If it helps both Seventeen Seconds and Faith are probably my favourite albums out of what I've heard (by a slim margin since mood plays SUCH an important role as I'm sure you know yourself). It was a great interview I have to say, I'd never heard of this channel

@@teethgrinder83 I remember when I was in 9th grade and was kind of bragging to a "goth girl" about knowing a group called "The Cure" with two awesome albums "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me" and "Disintegration". She immediately replied "Oh they're good, but the albums before that were even better." I was like "What?? Are you serious?" I realize now she was not joking. I'm not sure I totally agree but can definitely see where she was coming from: Faith and Pornography are masterpieces. A great collection of singles from around that time is "The Cure - Staring At The Sea - The Singles". As for other bands with equally great albums of melancholy from similar times, try "REM: Fables of the Reconstruction" or "U2: War" or "New Order: Power Corruption and Lies".

@@floretionguru2977 hahaha that's funny but awesome-a similar thing happened to me when I was 15 and chatting up a girl I liked and bragging about various bands that I thought she would be into, we ended up dating for nearly 3yrs and she introduced me to more good music than the other way round 😂 Ok brilliant I'll check that out! And I'll check out the REM album-ive heard a few but that was a very long time ago but that one doesn't ring a bell, as for U2 I've tried to get into their music and its never really been for me but I'll still try that album because often there are bands that people don't particularly like but find one album that is awesome, same with New Order although I haven't given them so much of a try as U2, thanks so much! Hope you enjoy the rest of your day 👍

When I heard Robert talk about the amount of people that were attending the Hall of Fame induction ceremony and how surprised he was , I was surprised. I think Robert highly underestimates The Cure's fan base numbers... He's so humble... This and Roger's interview were freakin' amazing!!!! The Cure has always and will continue to always be my favorite band of ALL TIME!!! I've been listening to them since 1992 when I was introduced to their sound... Mixed Up was actually my first album and that was already 2 years old... Then I found their greatest album.....Disintegration, been a fan ever since. I have all their albums... And according to reviews suddenly EVERYONE and their mother & grandmother & cats and dogs, are in absolute love with this band. As I have always been since 1980 myself. Robert continues to amaze and that voice that never changes over these many years, just incredible. Robert Smith will always be my lord and savior. 🙏🎶🎼🎸

Well done for getting Robert Smith on the show and congratulations for resisting the urge to interrupt. Yes, he does talk at length but you never know when he might arrive at a crucial piece of information or insight we wouldn't have heard otherwise. Also, he's getting to be an old man now. This may be /really/ the last thing he ever does. It's always a tragedy when a great creative person dies and after they do we can't ask them any more questions about their art or their reasons or ideas and we can't hope for any more interviews or songs or material. Once he is gone this will immediately become archive material and a record of who he was. It's crucial to let him say what he wants so we will know what he would have said if we'd asked. I rarely listen to long-form KZfaq videos throughout but this one I didn't want to miss. It's a scoop to have him. I know it's usually the worst of questions but I'd have loved to have asked what my favourite Cure songs are really about. Of course, never really knowing is the point because everybody folds the songs into their own story and give them their own personalised meaning.

Yes! The insight about their staying power amongst us older fans coming down to "trusting us emotionally" is a fact. I would also suggest that especially Disintegration is sort of emotionally the gift that keeps on giving. You relate to it differently throught the decades of your life, but you still RELATE! You still feel heard, and your struggles seen. It's the same reason why The Exorcist is my favorite movie, I saw it when I was very young and related to Reagan, but then I grew up, had a child, and I related more to the horror the mom went through, feeling so helpless. As I get even older and my own mom gets closer to needing care, I find myself feeling the heartache, fear, and sense of betrayal the priest has.

I would love to have a few pints with Robert. Since the early 80's I've thought of him as a musical genius, like Mozart. He created music that made life tolerable, and death less appealing due to the thought that that music may no longer be heard. He created songs that make me feel as though i took... "Something", as in euphoria. Not the pop songs, not me, more the Same Deep Water as You, Prayers for Rain. I'm fascinated with how such pieces came from a man, a human, when they have such an intense affect on me. There are a couple pieces by Mozart that i feel similarly. Music is felt, and there's few that have their level of depth, emotion, uniqueness, imagination, creativity, skill, talent, and passionate motivation pouring into their work. Every album the Cure has done was filled with substance, sustenance. One of the only bands that I've heard all their albums, none of the typical 1 or 2 half decent songs per album and the rest feeling empty, and everyone of them worthy of what he hoped for. Robert will always be a "heart throb," which i never thought of him that way (lesbian, always) and only learned recently of that being said of him, he's a man of character, charm, wit, and beauty. That means his wife is amazing! An example of true hearts finding their match.
