Luigi deserves all the love he can get. Through the misfires and flames, even the invisible ceiling glitch has to favor someone at some point. Controversely I doubt neither of them even realized the interaction exists at this level and is actually consistent. Otherwise S2J might have picked a more simple approach like ledgegrab, regrab ledgregrab since lugi only has 1 shot at clipping you with his UP B as his basically only vertical recovery. And since it is ONLY vertical, he can never land on stage even if he jumps up significantly above the ledge. As the video pointed out at the very start, matchup knowledge is scarce from the upper tier char players, just because they rarely get to play this matchup, thus extensive training for a matchup you might not even encounter in a competitive year is not worth the effort over practicing against the 4 characters that make up 90% of the competition. TLDR: Luck happened and fate decided to shine upon Luigi, making this the most memorable top 8 run ever in SSBM history.

What's interesting about this result is that the glitch both *caused* Abate to be in that terrible position (by lowering his hit arc) and *saved* him from dying. Like you can't even hate on his luck because he came to it so honestly.

@WaffleAbuser
@WaffleAbuser 4 жыл бұрын
I think the glitch is active all the way until ground friction has completely cancelled your momentum.
@cyanariesdw04
@cyanariesdw04 4 жыл бұрын
Well, it actually didn't cancel the hitsun, which is most likely why Abate didn't attempt or was able to recover earlier. There's also the possibility that a ground slide off isn't counted as landing per se, but I think the former is correct
@Peikotus91
@Peikotus91 Жыл бұрын
It's because Mario bros. characters have misstech statets that bounce to air already on frame 2 - which is the immediate following frame from hitting the ground. Thus while they do touch the ground, nevertheless due to order of per frame events, they actually have zero frames of *sliding* on the ground early in misstechs. As stage collisions happen after physics, theres no slide on the frame they hit the ground and misstech. And frame state updates occur prior to physics, so on frame 2 of their miss tech they ascend to air before physics, so they move in the air. Extended ICG stays active as long as a character has vertical attacker shield knockback left. Sliding on the ground terminates ICG, as ground friction removes the remaining attacker shield knockback. But since mario bros. have 0 slide on ground frames with their misstechs, there's no ground friction and ICG stays active. The only other character besides Mario bros. that would keep ICG in that scenario is Yoshi with lying on back misstech.

You did a great job with creating this video and I really appreciate the effort you put into creating it to tell this story. YOU are what this game needs. Stay safe in these times, you make amazing vids, hope you're doing well and staying healthy.

One way to deal with all of these stall fest that plague the game is to simply remove the win condition that constitutes them. Removing the timer would immediately remove the win condition that promotes stalling, and takes all playstyles that centralize around it with as well. Ensuring that the game WILL NOT end unless you take all of your opponents stocks, so not interacting with your opponent while you have a lead doesn't inch you closer to a victory. Timeouts being an alternative win condition is probably an unhealthy practice for melee, and if we truly want a more interactive meta-game, we should remove the win condition that promoted not interacting. Games that people played normally wouldn't last that much longer than timed ones, and with the timer being an afterthought would make players who don't have the lead less pressured into making decisions due to a time out being possible.

Timer exist because of that 52 minutes match on SSB64 where a Kirby camped a Pikachu for the entirety of the match (This match is also the cause of the ban of the Hyrule stage)
