Idk I havnt played this game but I guess it depends on how much actualy decent content is available from launch. Given the current state of gaming almost none of the triple A titles from the last decade are worth paying for if they had to stick with only the content that was available from launch

@@RandoManFPV I mean, even back when I played there was a good amount of content (definitely more than a game like Battlefield had). And they've added to it since then. The only reason I don't play it is because I don't own it. I played during the open betas. Felt a lot like Battlefield 4 (after BF4 was fixed).

I think one of the biggest issues yet to be solved is the lack of main menu player + weapon customization system. Currently, you can only customize your loadouts and soldiers in-game, which is really inconvenient and results in a lot of people just skipping customization entirely. I've done polls on the BBR subreddit, and as much as *35%-ish* of the playerbase has *no idea* that you can customize what your soldier looks like. If that's the case, imagine how many more people don't know you can switch your weapon and customize attachments. Being unable to do that removes a lot of replayability, and although it is sorta the playerbase's fault for missing such an obvious feature, it doesn't matter. If your players aren't aware of a such a crucial feature, they will get bored and stop playing. As developers, you have to account for oblivious players, because that's your playerbase and them leaving will hurt the game no matter what. It'd be nice if you could save loadouts too. The other factor I think is kicking this game in the dust is the unfortunate reality of people nowadays: *they have much lower attention spans.* Things like social media and the gaming market's new ability to pump out loads of content so quickly has caused people to rely on those constant updates, even if they content itself is not really great. BBR unfortunately can't do such a thing with 3 devs, and because of that, players just move on. They want new stuff, so they'll go to other games to get it. Again, it's not really the dev's fault, it's just how people are now, and if you want people to play your game, you must, again, account for them. Like what you said, *BBR devs need to hire more people.* They already expressed the worry of hiring the wrong people and losing the game's OG vision, which is a reasonable fear, but it doesn't matter at the end of the day. BBR needs to account for the current day playerbase and give them very strong QoL updates and good new content, and the only way to do that is to get more people on the team. It's a risk, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't take it. BBR devs have shown some pretty solid skills and understanding of their own game, so I think they can take those risks and make it out with a stronger game. They just need to swallow the pill and take the leap.

What you said at 1:11, I 100% agree with. I'm actually baffled BattleBit's player-base has waned so much. I remember back people were team COD or team Battlefield, and when BF3 came out that was the only game people (including myself) would play for years. Even if there were DLCs planned it wasn't anytime real soon. I'm still enjoying BattleBit just as much as I did day 1, so is it truly the game's lack of innovations (part of it definitely as you pointed out). Or is a big reason that people's attention spans + the game market saturation is drawing them away?

Gave BF2042 and Apex legends up for BB, loved it but gave up like a couple months ago. I think it just needs more time to develop some areas etc, but the core gameplay etc is incredible and lot of the features too. Just maybe some content or in general more attention to the game is needed. I bought BFV for £3 on steam sale the other day and I hated that game playing beta, but all of a sudden it has 10k playing it and peaked at 100k+ last week. It's so fun and I think a lot of older games get more love now that new games are getting washed out or boring. As long as there is a playerbase then people will give it a shot and stay with it.

As much as i hate to admit it you kinda hit the nail on the head. Battlebit has been feeling kind of dryed up with the lack of content. We got like 2 new weapons, 1 new gadget, and 2-3 new maps, along with some balance updates and map reworks. Normally for an indie studio this is fairly normal but battlebit was a smash hit and earned so much money so for them to not put the money they earned back into the game with new devs which would make more new content which makes more money is really sad. Hopefully they start putting the cash back into the game, even a team of 7-10 people would massively improve things. Hopefully this new update brings some life back because it's looking to be big

In my honest opinion, the game needs bigger updates to bring people back and ideally around times when other big releases come around. I honestly don't think Battlebit should be a type of game you only play but rather cycle in and out of. A lot of big games came out during that time between June and august like Starfield(September 6th) and Baulders Gate 3 (august 3rd). Even the 30th has another competing release with World of Warcraft's Season of Discovery. The key to Battlebit's survival is to catch players off of those hype trains for big game releases.

Aside from adding new stuff to the game, one thing that for me is really hard for devs to replicate is the general playstyle and flow games had during the first 2 weeks of launch. Part of the fun for me was all the goofyness in the game (comms, vehicle shenanigans, etc). But people naturally just got better at the game. No one really revives anymore, so then no one really waits to be revived. It's just way more optimal to go full rambo, die, repeat. And you can only really do that for so long till it gets incredibly boring

I don't think the game will die completely, I think the population will stabilize and you'll get a small, but dedicated audience that keeps the game alive for years to come. Kinda like with Planetside 2: you had a unique game with a very rocky development cycle but the community absolutely refused to let it die. BBR is simply too good a game to just be a flash in the pan, and I think it will go that same route, especially with the FPS market being as bad as it currently is.

I don't think the majority of players really cared about the balance of the game. For me and all of my friends, we stopped playing because it was fun and we just moved onto the next thing or went back to where we came from. This is a trend that I think will become more and more common going forward as new games have to compete with old live service titles for attention. Helldivers is another game with a similar success story to battlebit. In a year I bet those players are going to leave and just go back to what they played before.

Even with a team, updates take a lot of time. My biggest pet peeve is people who think game design is done with a magic wand. Bringing on more people to a team is huge depending on how everything's coded. It's not as simple as "Oh just hire a map designer", that is assuming they have a map designer that doesn't require extensive backend coding. "Oh just hire a UI guy" again, you're assuming it's the wave of a wand to change the UI. It depends on how baked in it is. "They made $17 mil" that's a lot to us, but that's not a lot in 2023 especially if they had 80k people on their server and theyre marketing.

I agree that, with that amount of revenue (supposedly), you definately could expand the team. What I strongly disagree with is the heavy criticism, that there was, as far as it seems, no expansion in the form of hires until this point. Hiring takes time, is depending on the amount of people looking for a new job, and even after starting out you generally need some time for onboarding. Add the fact, that they are currently only three people and have no dedicated HR. These points (and others) should be taken into account.

Didn't play this game in July 2023 and came back again 3 weeks ago. I was really surprised when I saw only 2 servers in Australia are active right now, I remember back in July there were plenty of active servers that you could choose to play. The majority of people left this game already, and all the points that you stated in this video are 100% correct. even the Kriss Vector. Before it was nerfed, all the noobs can be suddenly pro just because of that SMG. I am not good at shooting AR or SMG, I am a hardcore sniper. but I got myself to the top 5 in 1 match just because of that SMG lol. I really hope this game will not die, this is the only game where I can feel the sniper. The last time I felt this moment was when I was playing Battlefield 4, where I can support my team by shooting at the assault rifle, SMG, and Support soldier, not just shooting at the other snipers across the map lol.

Just because a game makes money, does not make it not an indie title. Flappy Bird didn't become a AAA title overnight. That said, yeah they should have probably hired another guy or two. But TBH, cashing out isn't that bad for them either lol

Yeah, I was going to say the same but realised others have said it already. Bungie became an independent studio after releasing Halo 3. So even when they developed ODST and Reach they were an independent company probably worth hundreds of millions of dollars at the time. Being indie has nothing to do with budget but instead everything to do with ownership of the company and its assets. But as ItsFJC mentioned, if you're cashing out and reaping all the benefits from a successful early access debut rather than to reinvest and improve it then you shouldn't be regarded as an indie developer or a developer of any kind. It's pretty much a typical corporate move.
@heymelon
@heymelon 6 ай бұрын
This everything is "dying" trend needs to die imo. BattleBit Remastered is a huge success, and like you said the numbers they had for that small dev team and being indie game was insane, because the numbers they have to day still are amazing and 99th+ percentile for 3 dev games I reckon. That said the rest of the video is probably on point and there are reasons they can't retain that big player base and content creators. Hopefully some changes will be made to buck the trend, balance will happen faster and what not. edit: And getting revenue has nothing to do with a title being indie or not really. That doesn't automatically give them the experience needed to handle a now huge project or make them have a backing of a big publisher with recourses that can help them out with everything from hiring to planning to server expansion and all the things they did not do before from their bedroom laptops.

I think it was just overly successful at its launch, so even if the numbers seem low when comparing the game to launch, it is far from dead and alot of people still love this game, so to anyone reading this, dont let this video deter you from getting the game. Its cheap, runs on a potato, still has plenty of players to find full servers and is a very fun and addicting game :)

My biggest frustration was that there was all this content that they promised right after launch, all this hype and success. And after they hit it big, they just fucked off and focused on community servers and the monetization of said servers, instead of bulking out content, balance changes, etc. As a support player, being locked to 4 guns while the other classes had dozens felt horrible. Even now, only having 3 LSWs and 2 LMGs is rough as fuck. What gun am I gonna use today? RPK16 or the U100? Real challenging question, while every other class has gotten multiple new weapons in the time it took support to get 1.

Gamers in general are mostly "migratory". This game was peaking just before the typical AAA seasonal releases as well as students heading back go school. I personally still enjoy it and I've had no issues finding matches. But the tough part with almost all early access games is that there's a point where you begin to wonder when (major additional content) and a full release will appear? I love what the devs have done with this game, but the game itself is still an "early access game" that's being binged like a full release. It's only natural for players to migrate to the next thing. Whenever the devs decide to do a full release, I hope to see new maps, vehicles, weapons, etc. and of course I'll be right back on to support it. Just my $0.02.

They really need to fix the servers honestly. Every time I log on there’s a 50/50 chance battlebit is unplayable bc of all the servers being full or most of them being empty. Really frustrating for me bc the game is literally unplayable. Also I noticed servers crash a lot too and sometimes they’ll random kick over 100+ ppl when they lag. I wouldn’t be complaining about these issues, but they literally make the game unplayable.

Unless something big comes from the devs, I think the playerbase will stabilize at a couple thousand, consisting of the very loyal players. It's the same with other FPS games like Titanfall 2, Planetside 2, etc. Small, but loyal playerbase. I played during the free weekend, and I had pretty fun, but I felt like it needed more improvements and tweaking in general. Some balancing, UI improvements, etc. But it was fun! The game has some real potential, the player previous player numbers show that I think, the devs just need to find a way to catch that spark and keep it alive, and eventually make a flame out of it.

You have to remember that just because the made a huge profit, doesn't necessary mean that new developers can pop up in their studio like some RTS game. Everything takes time. A bunch of new games released as well. People treated this game like a small time sink until the next AAA came along. I can also tell you that most gamers are very shallow, they won't be caught dead player a "lesser" title like Battlebit. Even Battlefield 2042 has more numbers right now. Bigger youtubers and streamers have been support 2042 for so long, even after all the BS. BBR devs are amazing, they've implemented so many fixes and features in the small amount of time they are still developing, even more so than AAA titles. Everygame has issues and metas. The main problem the game has is that, the movement is far to arcady for the warfare style game. So when you have chokepoints, you have that crazy rambo that flanks and takes of the whole corridor of players. If you play something like battlefield 2, 3, 4 ,V ,1 or even Planetside, that hardly flies. and it's a slow tug of war.

I must admit on Saturday I joined 3 servers mid-day and they were empty and waiting for players. I think the EU servers are just meh and dead anyway. But the American servers are a fuckin blast to play on. At this point I think the 3 Devs have done a lot and I totally am on the opinion that the game is in the exact right place that the devs should start working on the experimental game mods, making new maps and just doing more.

I love the game, and I’m currently grinding to prestige 5 so i can unlock every camo on every gun, but i do agree that they’ve really dropped the ball here. They need to make some changes ASAP or the game is done. I’m probably gonna stay on the grind unless the game just completely dies, but the magic just isn’t there anymore tbh. It’s more just the satisfaction of seeing the unlock pop ups that keeps me playing at all anymore.

Why hire more devs and increase dev costs by tens (if not hundreds) of thousands per year when the game has already made them multi-millionaires? Can’t blame them for wanting to keep the profit for themselves. Should they have promised updates they can’t deliver on properly? No. But ultimately it’s an Indy game, there was no plan for a company and big support structure around this game and people should have expected that. They played their cards extremely well to make as much money as possible through the game taking advantage of all the free attention creators and the media were giving them. It’s a masterclass in release timing and how to make tons money as an Indy dev, and a formula I’m sure many will try to copy going forward.

SMG/PDW weapons are like a giant stop sign for enjoying this game IMO. They are way too fast paced while every action such as healing and reviving people are way too slow. Should just lean into the arcade aspect, give us the defib speed of BF3 for ressing people, a longer charge=more health. Such a weird state this game is in with the half milsim aspect and half arcade FPS bonanza

The major decline coincides with Sgtokidoki getting all butthurt over getting domed by a sniper them nerfing them out of existence. What does that say you might ask? Well, that says; "we hate new players, instead of getting to know a games' mechanics and playstyle by trying the classes we will forcibly point you in the direction WE want YOU to play!"

Indie game is no longer an indie because many people play it? That's not how it works. Among Us, Undertale, Lethal Company, and even Pizza Tower (though I can only find two official names, it appears other people worked on it) were made by tiny teams (some by less than three people), and all of them blew up with hundreds of thousands of players... Are they AAA games now?. Popularity does not determine who's indie, and if they want to keep working as a small team they have the full rights to do so.

We've complained about a lot of issues that this video didn't mention, same answer though, lackluster response from the dev's. I guess i'm glad they got paid though... If it goes on sale sure otherwise save your money. Something else will come up.

Expanding a dev team is much more difficult than you make it out to be. The games play numbers are decreasing because there are many games now to play online and probably not because one gun beamed people from across the map.

So sad, after all this game game me back some "childhood memories" from the fact that I didnt have to sweat in video games anymore to have fun. It felt so refreshing to me. Since I mostly work as a cross country contractor nowadays I do not have time to play competetive games as I did in my early to late teens (cs, valorant, r6 etc.) I feel like the game deserves more attention and some sort of a plan of where the devs want to go with it. As for now - it just feels like a massive chaos. I hopped on the game today after a month or two, I just couldnt believe it, the UI feels like a mess. The camos arent so simple as they were. For me it just feels like they dont know what to do with the game anymore, sad. I really like BattleBit, I do not want the game to die. Its such a good game for casual players.

Damn near every time I hop on battlebit I still have a blast but I just haven’t had that draw to play like I used to and that’s sad. The Dev’s have just been consistently turning me off with most of their decision making, way too much focus on little things and stuff nobody really asked for, they seem tone deaf. I understand that say Vilaskis is only really doing maps so his work on updating maps and stuff doesn’t really correlate with what the other 2 are doing but the optics don’t look good when most of the updates are just fumbling around constantly changing maps when nothing else of substance occurs

I think the vector point is on point. Of all the times I've left battlebit for a while, most of them are from poor balance. The vector itself never really anoyyed me because I just used it. But the fucking littlebird. They should just remove the thing from the game. 1 person on a full server is having a good time on it, everyone else fucking hates it. There is no real conterplay. I wouldn't be surprised if the player count steadily went up after they removed the littlebird. then the maps. they have redone the voting system alot of times because its a main sticking point, its a main sticking point because some of the maps just suck. wakistan sniper voters... then there are the vehicles in general. they are so squishy which I like, that they just camp their spawn and become turrets, tone down their god damn accuracy to make it less viable to camp with the things. the no counterplay to a tank camping their spawn is the problem rpgs are also too destructive. they do damage behind walls they destroy making them the best weapon to use in inter building fights. less wall damage and less damage behind wall would mean that the buildings and cover last for more than 5 seconds because of the rpg spam. Rpgs should be only really useful for vehicles. less of them becasue of less usefulness means vehicles are stronger by side affect and would camp less too. then there is the general defending is uselss thing as well. its just swarm tactics. give each zone a slowly increasing point drain with a cap to the enemy teams score. Give people a reason to keep a point. And maybe a secondary spawn point with 3 or so spawns that appears when a cap is being capped to stop the 1 person backcapping stuff. which would encourage squad stuff.

What im bothered about battlebit is the op weapons you get at rank 0. Like the ump or the m1a1. Theese weapons are too strong to be at rank 0 in my opinion. especially the ump 45. they should put them in a higher rank. What's the point of ranking up if you already have beast weapons without playing a single game.. And im tired that every second people who kills me has a ump 45. It has too much damage. It basically use a pistol round. A quite strong round, but 35 dmg is still too much. with 35 damage the gun's projectiles ignores the player's armor in the game. In reality the 45 acp round is so bad at armor penetration they even sell it for civillians... It can't even penetrate a very basic kevlar west. They should decrease the damage to 30-31 and increase dmg drop at around 65-70m. It's an smg not an ar. The other things i miss is the p90 for medic, and building close to a capture point. Now i can't even put down a damn sandbag to fortify the points and make some cover for my team. It's not like it's unbreakable or something. With c4 you can wipe out everyone in a cap no matter how fortified it is.

I mean when you suddenly acquire tens of millions of dollars after basically developing a game on a loss for years I don't blame them for bailing. I would probably do the same. It's easy to think "Why keep working on a game you've spent your life on when you've already made bank". The game seems small and insignificant in comparison to their newfound riches, they're probably just enjoying life. Of course it won't last, and investing in the source of their income is ultimately the smart choice, being blinded is more common than seeing that simple fact.

Ultimately the devs can do whatever they want, it’s their business. They don’t owe us anything. Cool that they made a lot of money and it sucks that they didn’t want to use that to expand their team. They have a good track record for finding success with simple ideas/solutions so why increase dev complexity by adding another team member? You’re also assuming what you want is what they want.

its funny bc the playerbase has been relatively stagnant over the past 3 months. Also the dev team is small, and its hard to expand it. I mean jeez, just look at Valheim for example. Those devs made out like bandits and content still comes at a snails pace.
