Winnie the Pooh started out as bedtime stories English author/playwright A.A. Milne told his son, Christopher Robin. So that would explain why the film opens and ends in live action, as well as Pooh and the gang giving some breaking-the-fourth-wall jokes by interacting with the narrator. The real Christopher Robin even got a stuffed teddy bear on his first birthday in 1921. Originally named Edwin Bear, the toy bear was renamed Winnie the Pooh after a Canadian black bear at the London Zoo named Winnipeg and a swan named Pooh. A.A. Milne was inspired to write a set of children's stories based on the bedtime stories he told his son. Milne later published his first few written verses, along with drawings by English artist Ernest H. Shepherd (a frequent visitor to the Milne Family's Sussex estate), as a book in 1924, "When We Were Very Young", which was followed by a series of children's verses known as the "Winnie the Pooh" books. Walt Disney acquired the film rights to the "Pooh" books in 1961, the same year "101 Dalmatians" was released, but he decided to release his proposed idea for a feature film of A.A. Milne's books as theatrical featurettes first: "The Honey Tree" in 1966, "The Blustery Day" in 1968 (which won an Academy Award) and "Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too" in 1974. That's because he realized that children in Europe were very familiar with the "Winnie the Pooh" books, but children in America were not familiar with Winnie the Pooh at all. The former 2 shorts were the last two shorts from the studio Walt Disney himself gave his own personal touch to, as "The Jungle Book" was the last full-length movie of which did the same. All 3 "Pooh" shorts would be compiled years later, in March 1977, into this film. Plus, the movie's ending is actually pretty heavy. There's no big chase or major discoveries, it's just Christopher Robin talking to his imaginary friend, even about the inevitability of the future.

I haven't actually watched this film since I was a little kid. Now that I'm an adult I realize just how funny most of it is! "Trespassers Will" ... be shot!

Fun fact: The reason why Gopher constantly reiterates that he's "not in the book" is a subtle joke to the fact that he's not in the original A.A. Milne stories and an original character made by Disney.

It is indeed a bunch of "episodes" (shorts that were released to theaters individually in 1966, 1968 and 1974) but with connective tissue and an epilogue added. You may have noticed how much stronger the middle part is: "Blustery Day" was the short that won an Oscar and convinced most critics that Disney's decision to adapt A.A. Milne's books was a genius move. Beware the "Christopher Robin medicated" internet theory. The theory is that all his stuffed animals represent mental illnesses he might have: Rabbit is OCD, Tigger is ADHD, Piglet is chronic anxiety, Eeyore is chronic depression, Owl is narcissism, Pooh is substance addiction. While I get the logic people are going for, I prefer a different take on this: Christopher Robin has assigned what a normal child would consider "adult traits" to these beings based on adults in his life. Maybe he acts as father figure to them as a way of processing the way adults treat him. This is when Piglet's voice actor (John Fiedler) joined Disney. As an adult I associate Fiedler with Juror #2 in "12 Angry Men". One of the writers at the studio (Ralph Wright) had the irony of coming up with the funniest material most of the time, but having a voice so deep and sad that rather than audition professional actors for Eeyore, the producers just had Wright do it. Not the same owl, but the same animator got assigned to his drawings (Eric Larson). 24 years apart. More people need to talk about the Heffalump & Woozle song. I know Pink Elephants from "Dumbo" came first, but the Sherman brothers actually outdid Frank Churchill in terms of both melody and lyrics. The context of Heffalump & Woozle is also less pretentious, which gives the song a chance to really up the creepy factor as it keeps going. I think the unfortunate logic behind Eeyore choosing Piglet's tree is that it's already been turned into a house in the same way. (And Pooh's tree must've been further away.) I think it highlights Piglet's good qualities: most of the characters spotted Eeyore's mistake, but Piglet wanted Owl to have a home and made a selfless choice rather than reverting to his usual cowardice. Rabbit definitely got sharper around the edges as the stories continued. It's easier to write funny material for characters who are uppity bastards to some degree, although they made sure to keep him heartfelt enough for that world as a whole.

Maite If you’re saying why Eeyore aways so sad but there is another theory that All of the Winnie the Pooh characters represent a mental disorder here’s the truth 1.Winnie the Pooh.Pooh represents an Eating Disorder. 2.Piglet represents Anxiety 3.Eeyore represents Depression so it’s obvious. 4.Tigger Represents Adhd 5.Rabbit Represents Ocd 6.Roo is autism 7.Kanga is Represents social anxiety 8.Owls represent Narcissism And 9.Gopher Represents Tourettes
