@@appliedvisionbaseball Huh. Weird because in the video it sure looks like he's running out to the shortstop position. That's the thing about "daddy ball". All the dad coaches my kid had would tell you right to your face that they didn't treat their sons any more favorable than the other kids. They would say things like "I'm actually harder on my own kid !". Then, when the rubber hit the road, their kid would be in the most important positions on the field. Pitcher, shortstop, QB, etc. It's almost like the dads couldn't help themselves in their nepotism. Sometimes the coaches kids would be qualified for the job. Most times they absolutely were not, and there was some other kid on the team FAR more talented athletically for that role.

@@gergnotsloh He was one of the top defenders in collegiate baseball. He did not play for his father in that footage. He's an unbelievable athlete. It's always said to see how quickly people turn to pessimism instead of curiosity. But then again, it's easy be critical and tear someone down.. Much harder to add value and incite and build someone up. Please don't take this as a criticism. Just a criqitue.

@@appliedvisionbaseball People judge quickly because we see daddy ball constantly as kids and then as parents ourselves. The people that do it always say they aren't doing it and call anyone bringing it up "negative". Then they say "Well why don't YOU coach or volunteer"? Well, we do. Problem is, with nepotism is it goes deep into the community and certain dads always get first choice etc. People don't just bring this up out of the blue. It's a REAL problem in youth sports, trust me. Fortunately my kid (who was backup QB to the coaches son - surprise surprise) was a FAR superior athlete and decided to get into Ice Hockey and Track. Ice Hockey tends to not lend itself to "daddy ball" because there are no "key" positions. He's now a sophomore in HS and is one of the top 1600 runners in the state of Ohio. Guess what? You can't "daddy ball" in running, thank God. Either you're good or you're not, and there's no denying the times you put up.

@@appliedvisionbaseball And yeah I would HOPE at least by college your kid got to experience a coach other than his dad. Honestly, if dads love coaching so much, they should coach teams that their kids are not on... but that's not the reason they are coaching. They are coaching their own kids for a reason.

@@appliedvisionbaseball Well, to be fair, nepotism generally ends up in failure too. Sometimes it takes a generation or two, but generally it ends up in failure.

I never met a daddy ball coach that works with another player more than his own kid even when that said player is struggling hard on his coached team. Not saying this is you but this is what I have seen and witnessed. Why give another player the tools to succeed and possibly outshine your child. Daddy ball cant allow that now..

@@DavidMorales-fk3hw My kid was backup QB in 4th and 5th grade and would play QB maybe 3 plays a game. He was at least a head taller than the coaches boy and could throw an accurate tight spiral. (He was WR when not playing QB, and funny enough, every time the coaches kid "threw" him the ball, my kid would go pick it up 30 yards away, throw it back to him perfect spiral right in the chest) Coaches boy would throw 5 ints a game regularly. So one of the last games of the season, I shit you not - We were tied 0-0 in the late 3rd quarter. He puts my kid in for ONE play and he hits the TE on the run square in the chest and the kid scores a 70 yard TD. Here's the fun part - The coach looked like his dog died after the play, and my kid never played QB again. 100% true story.
