I actually really like the Nazi allegories of the Daleks, I wish the flaws of fascism and the hypocrisy of the Daleks took more of a focus in future episodes, seems like the last time it was addressed was evolution of the Daleks…

This was the first and only Classic serial I watched as a kid, and interestingly I was far more enamoured with the scenes set in the forest than I was with the Daleks. I'd seen Daleks, so whilst it was bewildering to see them in black and white with some old man calling himself the Doctor, I knew what I was getting. But the forest with the primitive humans (as far as I remember??) is an image I've never forgotten. I think you're right that it really was every decision made in this story being correct that made the Daleks stick around, and not just the design.
