Food allergies are common in children, but for adults without any such allergies who suddenly develop them, it can be terrifying.

I had an anaphylactic reaction after eating and ended up in the ER. After I was stabilized and discharged I followed up with an allergist who pretty much brushed me off. She said adults don't get food allergies. I had to insist on testing and she tested me for like 5 foods, which came back negative. She was basically like oh well, you're fine, here's an epipen prescription. That's the state of our health care system folks!

You're luckey she didn't try to baker act you ! I learned from a vet on how to test , you can give a plant a very small amount of salt and it may grow better and faster but give it just a little too much and it will die , I hope You can listen to Dr becker and DR eric berg , regurding youre heath problems .

It’s sad that happened to you. I had the opposite affect. I’ve had 3 appointments with my allergist. I know now I’m allergic to shrimps, trees, dust, mold and a few others. I now have an epiPen and take Allegra.

Ugh... this is what I'm most annoyed about while searching up Dr's to set up an appointment. We've had 3 children in hospital and to say it was it was a horrible experience is an understatement. My eye lids have been swelling up since January of this year. The very first time it happened after eating curry.

@@evamz9584 Please find another doctor. I take Allegra 24 hour per allergist. It’s non-drowsy. He said since this allergy season was going to be bad, I should take as a precaution. I developed allergic reactions after taking the last booster shot. Allergist said it was really potent and the foods that I’ve been allergic to the booster is causing a reaction. It’s sad that the epiPen wasn’t covered by my health insurance. I’ll be keeping you all in my prayers.

THIS JUST HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER YESTERDAY, FEB 13TH 2022. The difference is, she IMMEDIATELY had an anaphylactic shock. She was in and out of consciousness AND if it weren't for this mysterious woman who administered her epi-pen and called 911, she could have DIED!! I am mixed with so many emotions right now and looking up all I can to get help! I contacted Panda Express but NO REAL ANSWER!!!!! My daughter informed the staff of her allergy and yet, this happened. I am just....

I think many times what we call an allergie is actually a buildup of things that on a micro scale is needed or at least tolerated in the body but in larger amounts are toxic or deadly . I started having a reaction to eggs and onions after eating egg sandwiches every single day for years , and I became so sensitive that I almost died from not being able to breathe from a very small amount . But I did an elimination diet to figure it out and by not eating that for several years have become much less sensitive ! I think the culprit was a buildup of sulfur . I just wanted to let people know that there sensitivity , maybe reversable , by eliminating the rite foods !

I have eaten peanuts and peanut butter/ peanut products my entire life! Last night i had some peanuts for a late night snack... after getting im bed i became incredibly itchy. I got up to the bathroom, felt a weird sensation in my eyes and lips (didnt even think to check the mirror)😮. Went to splash cold water on my body and noticed welts on my hands. Woke my husband to see if we had any benadryl .... luckily he has emt training and realized faster than i did it was a true emergency! Im 27... never have experienced more than cat or dust allergens. It took two shots of epi and appropriate iv meds im the er overnight before i was allowed to go home. Many people, including myself, don't realize right away how serious it is when it hadnt happened before! Never assume benadryl will do the trick when having a variety of symptoms, better safe than sorry💛💛 - somebody w whitecoat phobia who really doesnt like the er

My food allergies started at 18. Now every 1.5-2 years I gain a new food allergy. It’s always a food I eat regularly. This year I gained lemon and apple. So more foods to avoid. In addition my allergies have also gone airborne (perfumes, oils, natural lotions, etc), plus contaminated surfaces are a struggle (door handles, gym equipment, tables, etc.). Shared refrigerators and lunch rooms at the work place are very dangerous areas for me. I always have my epi pen with me in case I’m exposed or react to something new, but also the pollen outside triggers anaphylaxis.

Hello, I have been having this exact same issue and have never seen anyone else describe having it especially the part about contanminated surfaces they have been causing me angiodema ( swelling in my face) and I am eagerly trying to get it to stop because as I am sure you know theyre unavoidable. Have doctors figured out whats causing you to experience all of this?

@@zoiealyse2009, no it’s just an immune response. All they can tell me is my body is attacking what it sees as a foreign body. Since I wrote the comment above I added two more foods that I can’t eat (that is 4 now in 2022) My reactions are also getting worse/faster/lasting longer. No specialist has been able to say exactly why, other than they want to do more tests and add me to studies. Some think I’m exaggerating until my husband sits there and tells them what he has witnessed, plus showing them photos of the reactions. So in simple form, no one can answer the question of why. The only answer in common is that something is happening in the immune system. I have developed other immune diseases as well, like RA; and I have small fiber neuropathy. So clearly there is a breakdown happening inside my body. If you’ve not been to specialist to have other blood panels done, I would suggest it to see if there is anything else occurring.

Please search you tube for Dr Beckers videos on allergys and maybe eric berg . my problem was eggs and onions , I was luckey I caught it in time . I found out by eating one thing that my body was ok with and trying a small amount of another food with it to see if it caused symptoms , I think I got a build up of too much sulpher that was in the eggs and onions . I hope you get well soon.

I got my first allergic reaction when I was 21 while I was on vacation overseas, I’m now 37yr old still clueless to what’s causing these. 95% the time my reactions take place at night when I’m in deep sleep. I wake up to excruciating stomach cramps, bloating, nausea, explosive diarrhea with projectile vomiting, flushing, swelling, itching all over body, unbearable stomach pain, anxiety, dizziness. These episodes in the past two years have gotten stronger and extremely scarier. At first I thought they were random. Two years ago my fiancé and I started tracking them and I started seeing a pattern. I mostly get them when I’m either ovulating or on my actual period, Or closer to those dates. I have gone to literally the best allergist that accepts my insurance in New York City and they still cannot find answers. Some doctors think I’m crazy. It’s beyond frustrating to live like this. I can’t plan out my life in any way because I don’t know when this is going to happen. This happens almost every month or even twice a month. I also have been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis,fibromyalgia , IBS, Sibo. My recent allergist thinks that this is all connected to psoriatic arthritis. I agree to a certain degree but I think there’s more to it than just what he is saying. I went to a popular allergist in NYC that told me my symptoms are related to psoriatic arthritis somehow, but my rheumatology team disagrees. This is driving me literally insane and I’m becoming more depressed thinking I will never find answers.!! This is not just effecting me, it’s affecting my partner as well. We both have to wake up in the middle of the night and deal with this nightmare. I know it’s not easy on him either. I share my story in hopes of finding answers or clues.

I developed an allergy to kiwi of all things. Had my first reaction to it when I was 29 and pregnant with my 5th baby. It was absolutely miserable! I had had mixed fruit that time, so I wasn’t sure which was the culprit. Had just a kiwi on that next Mother’s Day several months later, same reaction. Haven’t touched one since!

I’d love to know what food testing was done. I am now allergic to artificial dyes. It’s in everything! I’d love to do a full panel testing but keep being told it’s just not available. Never had issues until 2014.

I had a kiwi today and my lip started to get swollen and it hurt a lot! And then a few minutes later it went onto my tongue. Maybe it was that it wasn't ripe enough!

If your fat they’d let you die like they did me. “Emergency nurse not believing my reason for being there, “i don’t care WHAT YOUR DOCTOR TOLD YOU, why are you here?” But is so sweet and nice and asks no questions for an mid age, overweight woman 🎉 That nurse sent me home. Next day I’m in ICU. I have no memory bc I passed out in my home. My family called EMS, I was rushed into ER, Then immediately admitted into ICU. My lungs stopped working on its own. I was put on life support, they told my family to prepare for the worst.

I’ve eaten nuts my entire life. Now I get anaphylaxis from it. Developed the nut allergy when I was 27 years old. I am also allergic to about 30 other things, foods, environment, medications. I never leave home without my epi pen and some Benadryl. Saw an allergist today, starting allergy shots soon.

Hi. Same here however my allergist, when I asked her if I can get on allergy shots because my allergies are not responding, told me I was “unstable”. I’m planning to look for another allergist when I relocate in June. Meanwhile I am no longer under her care, but Flonase and Azelestine don’t require prescriptions anyway so it was useless seeing her. Never provided useful information anyway.

Yeah I started reacting to rice, potatoes, and soy, all my favorite foods every time I eat rice I get hives on my legs and itch for an entire day, Soy makes my lips swell and potatoes gives me hives. I didn't sign up for this I miss soy sauce and rice man...I was given an epi pen and I haven't used it yet but I do pop several Benadryl when I get hives and my throat gets tight and that usually help.

age 31 and just last year i found out i am allergic to shrimp hope it didn't get worse. coz i didn't experienced it before as i was raised near the sea in my childhood and teen years. and all that food i ate often before.

I have had allergies most my life, but my allergies worsened after Covid and I developed allergic asthma. I’m highly allergic to antibiotics, dogs, cats, seasonal allergies however two days ago had a candy with peanuts and my throat closed up. I managed to get to my inhaler and took three puffs and kind of settled down. My pulmonologist could care less about prescribing an epi pen but my primary called it in along with methyl prednisone and got it ASAP. My pulmonologist was supposed to also make a change to my daily inhaler. It has been two weeks and they didn’t submit the paperwork and my insurance company can’t understand why it hasn’t been submitted. As for the peanuts, never been allergic before but you better believe I have to now read labels for peanut allergies.

Omg one day I woke up really dizzy and started vomiting 😭my parents decided to drive me to the hospital and when I got there I was given a pill and was told to rest and will be discharged later, I woke up feeling better and went home , I got home and had lunch and drank those pills again(i was told to by the doctor) and after a few minutes my stomach was paining, my throat was closing up I couldn't breathe and was drove back to the hospital and turned out I was allergic to the pills the doctor gave me, but the first time my body didn't react it was so scary and weird

What does it mean if Im only allergic to crab, and no other crustacean or shell fish? As soon as I eat crab, my inner mouth and esophagus becomes itchy and swells. My lips swell up like this as well if I eat too much.

I I am 15 on June I am.taking allergy test to know if I am allergic to seafood I was allergic to seafood since I was small since 4 or 5 my face was face and when I was rushed to hospital and now they figure out I am allergic to seafood but now I grew it out so I am not sure if I am allergic to it because some foods when there next to the seafood nothing happens to me but salmon bothers me so I am not sure with my results.

Tbh I’m allergic to almost everything grass dust corn roaches trees but with corn or the food allergies I just kept exposing myself little by little to build up a sort of immunity but it still causes some problems with my asthma primarily but that’s about it I use to have swelling and hives and all that but not so much because I exposes myself so much and it took time very very very very slowly to get to the point where I could eat it like a normal person and just take some Claritin.. I’m supposed to be getting shots in both arms twice a week but they cost $4000 a week and nc didn’t expand medicade so people like me wouldn’t fall into a catch 22 and be prevented from working due to lack of health coverage most of witch could be reversed and others reduced but as is without all the medications I cannot control my asthma because I cannot control my allergies because of me being allergic to everything smh so kinda goes two in two works with some and doesn’t with others ?

My egg allergy surfaced at age 27. Every recation i have is worse then the last. I carry a epi pen and benadryl. Processed eggs give me less of a reaction then fresh eggs. The hives i experience when ive been exposed unknowingly spread from head to toe, itching so intense my skin bleeds. Get tested it can save your life

Anyone else had a similar reaction to me from a preworkout energy drink? Each sip, i would get a slight burning/tingling in my mouth near my throat that I would also feel when breathing. Shortly after that i noticed my heart rate went up to the 100s. Kept drinking it slowly thinking surely not an allergy since I've never had an allergic reaction before. Shortly, my heart rate went up near 150. Struggling to get a deep breath although can still breathe. Chest felt a bit tight and left shoulder/arm started hurting a bit too which I'm sure was musculoskeletal since I could feel discomfort when pressing on the area. Went to ER. They seem to have found nothing wrong except from just sinus tachycardia. The flavour I had was grape btw. Also looked at the ingredients and I've had all of them in other drinks and with grape flavouring before with no problem. Feeling okay for now though.

I’m so scared after reading all these comments. I don’t want to randomly die from something I have been eating all my life. I just ate a candy cane (not even the whole thing) and I’ve had multiple peppermints this week and lots this month, but I immediately started coughing and got hiccups after. It’s been almost 2 hours and I feel better, but I’m scared it will turn into an anaphylactic reaction in the middle of the night. I don’t want to have anaphylactic reactions suddenly of my favorite foods or ingredients that are in everything. I felt dizzy too but that could just be anxiety ig? No other symptoms so it could be a random sensitivity but I’m terrified now to eat anything that a lot of people seem to be randomly develop deadly reactions from. I’m hoping maybe the mint just worsened acid reflux and that it’s nothing more but that would be the second random allergy I developed this year as an adult

I also have sudden food allergy that happen in my adult life. Although I been eating that food for my whole life. Been eating coriander & papaya since young but suddenly started to have allergy one day. I stopped eating it for a few days then try to eat it again. But again have reaction. So now it couldn’t eat it. I love eating coriander. Especially in my culture, we use a lot of coriander. 😭😭😭😭😭😭

I can have corn I can't do soy, rice or potatoes anymore its recent started last year. I bet ya I'll have a reaction to corn next because my immune system hates me LOL. I have Benadryl on me and my epipen.

I agree. If someone has a severe food allergy they need to do research when they go out. If they can't be accommodated, eat before you go out or have dinner with your buds at home.

developed New Food Allergies after getting the Moderna Vaccine. Reaction to Food Allergies became progressively Worse as 2nd Moderna shot and Booster, was NEAR FATAL Reaction.

I am sorry you developed food allergies after the Moderna vaccine. I got a flu vaccine approx 13 years ago, what messed up my immune system. I developed several autoimmune diseases and food allergies. That flu vaccine 12 years ago was my first and last flu/covid vaccine in my life.

It's about time people realize what is causing it. I changed after a vaccine from before the COV one. There are latex proteins in the vaccine. It's related to a lot of food.

I love nutella and chocolate with nuts in it i never have problem eating as a chilld on day i try a some biscuit with dired fruit and hazelnut then i feel a Itchy in my mouth and tongue i did'ten think more about that. five weeks later i eat two pieces of toast with nutella as have eating since chilldhood and agian the same itchy my tounge and mouth but agian did'te think more about it. i told a friend that i think i have a allergie too nuts she wanna make 100% surer that was a nut allegry she gav me a nut and i eat it and not 1 min later i feel my tongue and mouth starts too itchy soo much and this time it was not great feeling i took a allgry pille and went to the doctor and took a blood test and it said i have tree nut allegry i was refile but it i need too say goodbye too nutella and evertime i wanna buy chocolate i checke if it have nuts in it and if friends have cake i need to ask if it contans nuts. sometimes i just bake my owen cakes too be safe i foundt about when i was 24 years old im turning 27 this year 🙂
