Explore the science of why mixing drugs and drug interactions with other substances can lead to dangerous health complications.
--
Which of the following is risky behavior: a person taking cholesterol medicine with grapefruit juice? Or a person taking Acetaminophen before going out for drinks? Or a person on blood thinners who takes an aspirin? Turns out, all of them are risky. Each has inadvertently created a drug interaction that could lead to serious complications. Céline Valéry describes the dangers of mixing substances.

I’d say the most dangerous is probably weed and lsd. I thought it might calm me down during an acid trip, but instead I ended up thinking I was gonna die. It’s not physically harmful, but you may end up harming yourself because weed makes the trip a lot more intense and you may have a hard time handling it.
@lowlifehichtech2066
@lowlifehichtech2066 4 жыл бұрын
that'd be a waste of acid. benzos and some antipsychotics can stop the effects of lsd (and are sometimes used in case of a bad trip). also, you can't get drunk on acid which is why it's dangerous to drink&trip, very easy to have an alcohol poisoning without feeling drunk. weed&acid is a great combo but certainly not for everyone, in many people it can cause a bad trip or unpleasant mindstate

I was prescribed an antidepressant that also happened to be a blood thinner. My psychiatrist apparently decided not to tell me it was a blood thinner even though he knew I took generic pain meds for my chronic pain, which are also sometimes blood thinners. Ended up nearly in the ER gushing blood for over an hour with a nosebleed because of that. Was on my way to the hospital when I finally got it to quit. I was feeling QUITE faint by that point. The fact that I was explicitly told not to look up information on my drugs because I could be exhibiting side effects BECAUSE of knowing what it can do just makes this one of my favorite stories. Thanks, doctor!

My investigatory project on alcohol and substance abuse taught me NEVER to mix the two (not that I ever plan to take them). Alcohol not only aggravates the effects of the drug taken depending on its type, but since it also numbs out the effect of drugs, the user ingests more and more of the drug thinking their tolerance has increased. It is terrifying, honestly. 😟

I experienced the side effects of combining two drugs before. I took clonazepam and hydroxyzine. One day, I took two drugs at the same time before I go to sleep. And next morning, I felt drowsiness that I never experienced before. I couldn't wake up easily at that time, but fortunately, I went to school before I late. But in school, I fell asleep all-day. Furthermore, I couldn't notice that I'm sleeping during class time. After that day, I avoid taking two drugs at the same time.

Detachsoup60 Isn’t coffee also considered a drug? It’s addictive, is like alcohol but different in function, yet if you drink a pot of coffee vs a couple drinks of alcohol people will be fine with it whilst with the alcohol a lot might silently judge. People normalize coffee way too much, and most don’t believe you can get addicted to it!

Nice to see my biopharmaceutical degree confirmed in the first minute. For those wondering whether 2 drugs (or a drug and something else, sunbathing, grapefruits, some herbs) have a known interaction: ask your pharmacist. They, in general, know more about drugs and drug interactions than MDs. Heck, oftentimes they are obligated to tell you / should have picked a suitable 2nd drug to suit your medications. If you have the feeling your drugs have a side effect (or interaction) also let your national agency for adverse effects (FAERS for the US) know, It helps identify and solve these intricate problems. You can likely also ask your GP for help in this regard.

I ook a blood thinner for A-Fib and this caused a catastrophic blood loss, requiring 8 units of blood after 2 units of saline in the ambulance. BP 30/0 before the saline. I was on 8 prescription meds in addition to the blood thinner. I added Tylenol and CBD on my own. The bleed source was not found after scoping the stomach and colon. So no blood thinner. Jus baby aspirin from now on. This message is very rea, with life and death consequences,
