The blues are back. It seems for the first time in a while Carlton have a dependable and consistent AFL team that can win the premiership. The dark days are over, it only took 20 or so years...

Malthouse always seemed like he took that job out of spite to Collingwood and it was reflected on field.

I’m glad someone else has done a video on our dark times, I’ve lived through and went to some of the worst of them, was good to look back at such an important part of our journey back to the best we can be.

One day, could you do a video on the dark days of the Sydney Swans from 1988 to 1994 which was the post Edelstein/Powerplay International era for the Red and White following the stock market crash of 1987? The late eighties to the early to mid nineties was an incredibly dark time for the Swans as they were this close to folding, merging or even moving to Albury as commented by Peter McKenna, but however, the Swans were able to survive all thanks to chairman Peter Weinert, former president Craig Kimberley and President Mike Willesee. The Swans would make important decisions including appointing legendary coach Ron Barassi and big name signings including Tony Lockett which would mark the beginning of the Swans success to this day only missing out on the finals five times since 1995.

Don’t under state the reserves competition being mixed with the VFA that do a lot of harm for inner city Melbourne teams like Carlton, north etc

Awesome, well done! I am a 4th generation Bluebagger, I saw the good times through the late 60's to the 90's. I cant remember the 1968 flag as I wasn't quite 4 yo but I remember 1970 a bit better and giving it to the other preps at school. Made sure my Daughter was a Carlton supporter and in the process of brainwashing her partner. Looking forwards to 20 more years of good times, we are not far away from a flag, and once we get one we will start a dynasty.

I assume this is sarcasm? Blues gotta have probably literally the worst song other than the Eagles. It’s sooooo boring! Puts you to sleep. Richmond has a banger. And I reckon the Kangas is actually pretty good. Or at least, so I have been assured by those old enough to remember it being played after a win.

Great report mate. Carlton were the salary cap scape goat, just like Essendon were with the drug scandal. I doubt it very much that the rest of the teams weren't engaging in the same behaviour. We should not have let Fisher and Dow go.

Blues have nearly 30 years of failure and their supporters blame Malthouse for all of it 😂

Couldn’t have happened to better club. Hilarious that in 2018 they were still complaining the draft sanctions in 2003 for salary cap breaching was having an effect. Despite stockpiling on 5 number one draft picks, getting Judd and obtaining numerous other top ten picks. Always just thought cause they were Carlton success was just going to happen.

I am glad you enjoyed those days as they are done and dusted, we will be around the top 4 for the next 10 plus years and you are going to get sick of hearing Da, Da, Da, Da, Da in September.

@@steveaslan3733 Well we have won 17 games out of about the last 22 games including two finals and many of those games were against top 8 teams. A big improvement on the two years prior.

Still don’t rate them. Good side, but not too sure their bottom echelon is good enough to warrant consistently being labeled as flag favorites. Melbourne, in spite of going scoreless in the first quarter adjusted positional changes such as sending ANB into the centre bounce set up; moving JVR up the ground to allow Petracca to have higher impact in the forward half and after a blistering first 1 and a half quarters, as soon as Fritsch moved to Weitering, his impact was immediately stifled. They just hung on in the end for a 1 pt win, when in reality it should have been a 5+ goal win. Their wins so far this season has been a struggle against Richmond, the Brisbane win now looks to just be ok, beat North Melbourne, who are cellar dwellers and struggled to an umpire assisted win against Freo, losing to Geelong, Adelaide and losing to Collingwood who, like them were missing significant personnel. There is not a more overrated list in then AFL. Good side, but hardly the runaway premiership favorite most make them out to be.
