Two points on the Rankin run: 1) Watching Harley Reid unload that goal after three bounces kinda shows how much more exciting the game is if umps call running too far more often. We should reward that skill. 2) The clock stopped at 16 seconds after the call. Play kept going for about 13-14 seconds as players didn’t hear it. The play ended anyway in a tackle. It takes a couple of seconds to throw up and ruck contest so… in this instance nothing would have changed.

The problem people have with trust in Essendon is since 2011 they've apart from an elimination final defeat in 2016, either stayed down the lower end of the ladder or had sat in the top 4 halfway and then lost most games to finish 12th or something. Even though they sit 2nd their percentage is weak and that's consistent every year with Essendon. I'm an Eagles supporter and it wasn't until 4 minutes left on the clock and 35 points in front of Melbourne I said "yes they're going to win". So you have to forgive people who are sceptical about Essendon 😊
